Wow... as much as I love CSR, that is totally unacceptable.
We would have demanded to be moved to another resort and if they didn't work with us, well, there's a lot more hotels and a lot more to do in Orlando besides Disney.

No way are we paying to stay at a resort where we are second-class guests.

100% agree on this point!!

You are paying quite a bit of money to stay at CSR and for them to say you can't use the pool is unacceptable.

We have stayed at the CSR nine times and had at least one, if not two, conventions going on while we were there. They have NEVER closed the pools at that time. I am assuming with the size of the Grainger convention and their planned activities is why they closed the pools.

I'd be really upset if they closed the pools while we are there. Water park tickets are nice, but it's not worth it to me to pack up the kids and our stuff and go there when we only have a couple of hours to spend each day at the pool.

Unfortunately, I would guess they won't know how many people are expected for the particular convention until it's closer to the date...and by that time, our options may be limited.

Keeping my fingers crossed...

Someone asked earlier about 8A vs 7B. We are 7B people! I always request it. 7B is close to the Ranchos quiet pool, the Dig Site, and the bus stop. But, 8A is closer to the Dig Site, El Centro, and depending on where your room is, it's closer to the bus stop. It's further from a quiet pool.

If we were placed in 8A, I totally wouldn't mind!!

Hi, I will be at CSR from May 1st through May 9th, and in searching for any conventions, I have found three so far: May 2-4th Supermarket Leadership Program,... May 3-6th The Blue Community and from May 4-7th is the Animal Care. Now with three conventions going on, I wonder how crazy it will be and if that will in fact make for an unhappy stay....

We will be there over those dates as well, I am going to try not to be worried about it and remember all the positive reasons why we chose CSR.... queen beds, great pools, multiple dining choices :thumbsup2

DH and I returned at 1AM on Sunday from our 7-day trip to WDW. Oh and I saw someone ask - yes the new mugs were being put out late last week. They still had some of the old mugs as well.

As always CSR was amazing. I'll write up a complete trip report later, but for now the basics:

We were upgraded to a suite in Casitas because Grainger was there. We were also offered water park tickets because the pools were closed for Grainger and we told them that was unfortunate because the Dig Site was closed when we were there in January 2010 as well.

The Grainger Convention was there when we were in WDW in January 2010, we changed our trip this year to March, so did they. A few of the Grainger employees joked that they heard we were changing our trip and because we are so much fun to be with they changed their trip as well. Yes, there were a lot of people. Yes, you could certainly tell there was a convention going on. Didd they bother us? Not at all. They are a very respectful, considerate and polite group. The bars and lounge were crowded. Pepper Market was crowded on their first night; but after that night they had their own areas set up for meals, and we never had to share a bus with anyone because they were in meetings all day and we were one of very few 'vacationer groups' staying there at the same time.

We love CSR and we can't wait to go back. I'm wondering if we book in February if Grainger will join us again - LOL ;).

If you have any questions, let me know.

I am glad you had a nice stay and really glad to hear that the convention did not bother you.

I agree with marivaid and ilmomof2.

Our entire vacation touring plan is built on the premise that we get to the parks early and take a midday break at the pool to rest and relax-none of which can be done at the water parks. Not just that but our tickets already have water park admissions. We picked CSR because of it's beauty and amenities, I don't want to be moved to any other moderate resort.

At the very least I believe warning that this might happen should be given when you book.

While I am there the National PTA convention will be there and I'm really, really scared that this sort of thing is going to ruin our plans. I hope that I am in a panic for nothing. Right now there are rooms available, even at the discounted rate, for the time we are there.

KatMark-love your ticker ;)

Preferred rooms are Casitas 1, 2 and 3. Cabanas 9B is "Club Level" for guests of conventions IF they pay for Club Level services during the convention.

I have not heard anything new that they've added Cabanas 9A or 9B to "preferred" listings.

Thanks. I guess that tells me how "expert" that particular travel agent is on all things Disney.:headache:

I understand what you are saying, but we didn't see it that way. They did offer to find us a room at a different Moderate resort, we refused because we love CSR. We were offered water park tickets, and if we were water park people we would have taken them. Instead we took the complimentary drinks we were offered and the fantastic suite upgrade.

I'm glad that they offered you to move to another mod, that's all we would have asked for even though CSR is by far our favorite. We pretty much only get to swim when we are in Florida so it would have been a deal breaker for us, but I can understand that it's not everyone's case :)

Does anyone know if they always close the pools for conventions? We will be there over the Animal Expo in early May and with two young kids the pools are very important.

We've been to CSR five times now and there's always been at least one convention each time. They have never closed the pool for any of them. Don't worry too much :hug:

I'm with you on this! We were there from the 23rd to 25th and we (DS, DW, and I) spent at least 3 hours at the pool each day. If this had happened to us we would have been extremely upset! We spend alot of time at the resort, and I would have been very upset! If they're gonna do something like that, they should just close the whole resort for the convention! I would have been making some noise for a serious upgrade!

When I was looking for our whole week CSR was not available from the 26th on (probably because of this Grainge thing), so we did the other 5 days at Swan (pretty awesome also).

Sorry that I can't answer your question, but your question prompted me to look up the National PTA Convention that is going on while we are there in June

Join thousands of parents, teachers, students, and leaders who come to national convention each year to enhance their skills, connections, and success!

* Education—choose from 50+ workshops
* Exhibits—visit more than 200 exhibits
* Issues—raise your voice on national business and emerging issues
* Resources—gather 100s of ideas, handouts, giveaways
* Connections—interact with 1,000s of other PTA & parent engagement leaders from around the country
* Orlando—bring the entire family and enjoy all that Walt Disney World has to offer

It says Thousands...THOUSANDS????!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

:faint:

Someone tell me it isn't going to be as bad as it sounds please :sad2:

I know what you mean! I am starting to worry and that is what makes me worry:lmao: I hope it does not hurt our vacations!

Hmm, when the AP discouts came out about a week ago, we considered switching from POFQ to CSR, but there was no AP discounted rooms available for April 30th-May 8th. Maybe those three conventions explains why.:mad:

As far as the pools being closed I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've been at CSR multiple times when conventions were going on and have never seen the pools closed. Once last year, they did have the walkway between the Cabanas and main building blocked off and a bunch of chairs and tables set up on the beach area for some dinner one night. It was a bit of a pain, because I was in Cabanas 8A and had to walk around the other way to get to the main building. No big deal though.

Hi everyone!

I am SOOOO excited for our stay at CSR in August!

2. Can someone tell me if they sell full-size boxes of cereal at the resort? And if so, approximate prices for that and say, 1/2 gallon of milk? We have the Basic Dining Plan, so I am trying to decide if we should arrange a towncar at the airport with a grocery store stop to get to WDW, or just use DME and pay the higher prices for groceries at the resort.

We will be staying at CSR again in Aug. too...we just love it!
I wouldn't arrange for a town car to do a grocery stop...I don't think it's worth the extra expense. We have used Gardengrocer.com the past few yrs. even though we are on the basic dining plan too. You place your order w/ them online & they deliver it to CSR. You choose the day & time frame you want it delivered. If you're not in your room at the time they deliver your order, bell services holds it & keeps anything that needs refrigeration in their refrigerators for you. Garden Grocer will leave u a msg. that your order is at Bell svcs. Then you call bell svcs. & they bring it to your room for you. There is a minimum order of $40, I believe & a delivery charge of, I think it's $12. We always buy a case of water so we can bring bottles to the pks. w/ us ea. day w/out wasting a snack credit on water or paying $2.50 a bottle. We also order 1/2 gallon of milk (gallon size doesn't fit in csr fridges-1/2 gallons fit in door of fridge), cereal, paper bowls, muffins, some snacks. It works out well.

Can you bring a stainless steel water bottle into the parks, or does it have to be a sealed, plastic bottle?

Someone might have already posted this, but I didn't see it:

Stitch Kingdom is reporting that the Cabanas quiet pool will close for refurb on May 17 and reopen on May 19. The other pools will be open during that time.

I did online check-in today! :cool1:

Though I had to call central reservations first, as my shipping address was still incorrect on my reservation (home and billing address were ok, but but DME tickets went to a shipping address that was 3 years out of date...thought it was fixed when they mailed me the new DME package, but it wasn't). I chatted with the rep about my room request and she tried to tell me all of Casitas and Cabanas were preferred. :confused3 I asked her to double check so she did, when she came back on the line and confirmed that I had the correct info - only Casitas 1, 2 and 3 are preferred. She did try to talk me into switching to preferred but I'll take my chances with my request.

Now I am really confused. First, my TA told me Cabanas 9a and b are preferred. Now she told me Cabanas 8a and b are preferred too. Is the majority of the resort now preferred? Sheesh.

Of the following locations, which is closest walk to the Dig Site:

Casitas 5
Ranchos 6A
Ranchos 6B
Ranchos 7A

Which is the longest walk to the Dig Site?

63 days to go and having a blast reading through this thread.

Closest would be Ranchos 7A and furthest (although only about a seven minute walk--it is for me anyway) would be Casitas 5.
