Coronado Springs Resort -- New Unofficial FAQ Thread -- October 2010

I was in WDW from 10/24 - 10/27/10 staying at the Swan for a conference.

I drove over to the CSR because I am considering staying there for my family vacation next year. I spent 30 minutes or so there walking around and saw the pool, Pepper Market and all the buildings (but not the rooms of course).

I thought the grounds were very nice and the theming very relaxing. The pool was cool with the pyramid and jaguar slide. The place is huge and one could have difficulties with the distances if they were in a non-preferred building, so if you are considering staying there read some of the posts on the first page about locations and choose wisely (or rather, request wisely). If you love the pool, you don't want to be a 10 minute walk from it when you can be right next door. to be fair, many WDW resorts are big...at the Deluxes you could be quite from the pool or lobby also.

That said, the huge drawback for me was the conference center. There were many, many people walking the grounds and going to and fro in business or business casual attire with name tags around their necks or pinned on their shirts. Over by Pepper Market there were hundreds of conference attendees. Cell phones, Blackberries, etc. abounded.

For me, that is a deal breaker. I would prefer to be at a resort without a conference center and all that "real world" business activity.

Hi all, I have a few questions.

Can someone tell me what size coffee pot is in the room? We'll be bringing our own ground coffee, so I need to know what size filters to bring.

Also, can someone suggest what rooms/building I should request? I've never done this before and would like to try my luck. We paid for the king bed upgrade, and the wonderful CSR I booked with said she would put in a request for a waterview. I definitely would like to stay in the cabanas, second choice casitas. (To be honest, I'll be devastated if we get Ranchos. :scared1:) I'd like to be as close to a bus stop as possible, and close to the food court (mug refill station :thumbsup2) would be great. How close we are to the pool doesn't concern me, and noise level isn't a concern either. Any suggestions? And also, when do I send the request? I've heard that others send a fax directly to the hotel, is this recommended? I don't want to seem pushy or demanding. I'll be happy with anything (except ranchos lol) but if the perfect room or building is available, I'd like to try for it! :goodvibes

TIA everyone!

I also thought I would be devastated if we got Ranchos when we went in March and it wasn't that bad. It was close to laundry and the pool. Depending on when you like to get your mugs refilled, we would just get them filled at the pool bar :thumbsup2 If, however, you like to get them filled after returning from the parks in the evening, it was quite a hike after walking all day. But then we would just hop a bus since we were close to the bus stop in 7A and ride to the front. On more than one occasion we got rides back on the golf cart to our room.

Is it worth it to upgrade to a Preferred or Water View Room.

That is up to each person but my thought is that it is never worth it to upgrade to a water-view room at any moderate. The reason is that you have a window and then a public walkway, a railing and then the view. It is not like you have a balcony to enjoy it. So while it is disappointing to look out and see a parking lot, it is worse to look out and see the water in this disconnected way and know you paid more for it. If that makes sense. I just don't know how much pleasure it can bring you from your bed or single desk chair.

You found MY hammock. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you so much for coming back and writing your review. I am so very happy that you fell in love with the CSR.

Kathy, after lurking on this thread for so long, every time I went out to the hammock, I wondered if it was yours! :rotfl:

I actually took a bunch more CSR pictures...when I eventually get my new TR up and running (have to finish my last one, first), I'll pop over here and let people know. I still can't get over how beautiful it was!

I hope you gave the hammock a try. And I am delighted you enjoyed the resort and found it beautiful. Please do link your TR so I can come and read it (I know about finishing one that you already have going on...I'm still working on mine).

This time we had Casitas Room 5412...king sized bed, great view, quiet and not too far from the pool. :) We just got our room when we checked in.

It is a 4-cup coffee maker (if you look at the first page of this thread there is a photo of the coffee pot).

I just wanted to add my opinion about waterview vs. not...I know you don't have a balcony and no one gets a real view of the lake directly from their room, but with a waterview room, your door is going to open up on to walkways that are on the inside of the resort and facing the water, as opposed to a parking lot. I really appreciated this, because its the lake and the whole interior section that really makes CSR exceptionally beautiful.

Sorry if this has already been asked... for the rooms with 2 beds (not the suites) are they all queens or are their doubles still there?

Hi Kathy,
I know you get the same question a lot, so I pre-apologize for this one:
I understand that there is a fee for having a package shipped to CSR. Do you happen to know if there would be a fee for something sent through bell services? I'm interested in placing a wholesale order of some Christmas stuff with some other Dis-ers. I'm not the original recipient so the box would be sent via bell services from another resort and then I would have to resend it as well. Would there be extra fees? I did something similar with a stroller share at one of the All-Stars last year with no extra fees, just tips, but that convention resort package fee has me a little concerned.
THANKS!!!

I was so excited to be staying at CSR because of this thread. As someone above said, I felt like I knew all I needed to before I ever arrived. It was myself, and 3 kids. DD 12, DD 9, DS 4. Our friends and their 2 children.

We landed at MCO and had a little trouble finding the ME busses. I'm a bit surprised it's not better marked. We were the 3rd resort of 5 to be dropped off. I was a little dissapointed with that but it was fine. I was just ready to be on vacation.

When we walked into the main doors we immediately felt like vacation had begun. The fountain at the entrance with the very tall doorways is just beautiful. We didn't have to wait to check-in. We'd done on-line check in the night before as the computers at WDW were down before that.

I requested ground floor, water-view, Cabanas 8A. I got all of my wishes and even got a corner room. We LOVED our location and both of our windows. It felt bigger because of the light coming in too. Our room # was 4183. It was perfect for us. It was a super short walk to the pool, nice short walk to bus stop 4, and the sidewalk that ended in front of our door led to the first hammock!

The Cabanans Quiet Pool was closed for the first part of our visit but then opened. We never used it as we were a lot closer to the Dig Site and that's where we wanted to go anyway.

The first night, we went to DTD. We waited for a bus for about 15 min. That was by far our longest wait. While waiting, we saw our first tiny lizzard and also saw a Lubber Grasshopper. (I had to google it to find out what it was called.) We first thought it was fake as it was gigantic and looked like something Disney would do. It hopped! Our kids loved it. I really detest bugs and lizzards but none of those bothered me one bit, like I thought it would.

The only time our busses were full was one night when we stayed at Epcot for the park closing. Most of the time, the bus had just us or at the most 5 other people on with us. We loved that.

We also hardly waited ever for a bus. Sometimes the bus would see us coming and wait for us too.

We loved the Dig Site pool, hot tub, and baby pool. Mike, the lifeguard, was AWESOME! We really loved him. He made friends with my 9yo DD. He let her help him close the waterslide and give his nightly speech. He hosted a pool party at 1pm one day we were there. We had an issue with one of the kids at the water slide and he immediately jumped in and took care of it all for us. We could tell he was genuinely dissapointed that we were leaving the next morning. My ds wasn't sure about the water slide so he allowed my 12yo dd to take him down once to help him. Then, he instructed him to put his hands out to the side so he wouldn't turn over and that made all the difference. Ds went down the slide as many times as his little legs could carry him up the stairs to the top over and over and over again. We really loved the pool

We weren't super impressed with the girl at the counter at Siestas. It wasn't clear what was included as a snack and she didn't like telling us. But, I was on vacation, so I ignored her attitude and went with the flow. My kids probably didn't even notice. The food we got there was good. The kids enjoyed ice cream a couple of times. My girls got nachos and I got fries to share with ds. We were all happy with the portions (HUGE!) and taste both.

When I made the reservations last April, I told them it was dd's b'day. When I checked in, I reminded them. When I chose to not use Mousekeeping, I had to sign a paper which also had on it that it was dd's b'day. Two nights before we left, I called the front desk and told them that she had yet to be recognized and that my friends' ds had received a card from Mickey, etc. They appologized and promised something would happen. Well, nothing did. So, I called again the next night and told them again. The next day, while we were at the pool, someone left a card in our room, no pin, and a photopass card. Well, we were leaving early the next morning and spent our last day at the resort, so she never had the opportunity for the photopass card. I'm not sure it's different than the one you get at the park anyway, but I was dissapointed that I had to handle it not once, but twice. The morning we left, I went to the desk myself and asked for a b'day pin for her.

My friend and I had massages on our last full day there. It was a long walk from Cabanas 8A to Cassitas 4 but it was soooooooo worth it. Oh, it was incredible. The ladies giving our massages were wonderful. We asked if we could get a golf cart ride back to our room and they were very positive and said sure! When the guy came to get us (5 min at the most), he was grumpy. After we left the building, he grumbled that the golf cart isn't supposed to be used for guests, but for baggage. Now, while I'm very willing to walk most times and pretty forgiving most times, he was rude. The ladies at the spa didn't hesitate that it wasn't a problem at all and made us feel like it was totally normal to get a golf cart ride to our rooms.

We ate breakfast at the Pepper Market 4 times. Twice, we got it to go and twice, we ate inside. We were never charged a tip any of the 4 times. We had the DDP. Because of this thread, I knew exactly what to do, so that wasn't hard at all. I will say that since I was the only adult, it did make it hard to have the three kids with me and get our meals, and out the door without spilling or dumping anything. But, I'm a mom. I made it work and it was fine. One of our servers at the Pepper Market was not friendly, not attentive, and didn't seem to enjoy his job but it was ok. The other server we had was wonderful.

I didn't want our room cleaned. I kept it picked up and cleaned up. I got towels from Mousekeeping a couple of times and more soaps. I gave her my dirty towels once. Since I was waiting for someone to leave something for dd for her b'day, I didn't put the privacy card in our key slot. I wrote a note and put it on my bed saying to please just exchange the towels and garbage and that was all. I came back to a completely clean room. I realize I probably sound nuts but I really didn't want anyone messing around in our room when I wasn't there. I took 2 laptops, a Nook, and other things like that, plus left money and cc in the room. So, I wasn't very happy that she moved our clothing (the kids left pjs on the beds) and remade beds (I made them before leaving every morning.) and cleaned e/thing. I complained when I called the front desk that night when I was also calling about the lack of b'day recognition for dd.

The resort itself was very clean everywhere that I went. They even combed the sand. I saw people around the resort cleaning constantly, picking up trash, all of those things. There was a large convention there the last part of our stay and while we saw them around, they were only in our way one time when we used the lobby bathroom before heading out to a park. It wasn't a big deal at all. The ones we were around were friendly and it was fine.

I really loved CSR. I really loved where we stayed at CSR. I would highly recommend it to my friends. I also plan to return in Dec 2012 so we can see WDW at Christmas. CSR is beautiful, very vacation feeling, the pool and waterslide are a lot of fun. The hot tub is relaxing and big so there's plenty of room. We loved it!

Hello -

First time staying at the CSR (or checking in on-line), and I was wondering how I go about requesting a certain location in the hotel. I have seen many people say they requested a certian area, but when I do the on-line check-in it only offers options like "low floor" or "away from elevelator".

How would I go about requesting a certain area prior to arrival? They stay is next week, so I will not have to worry about preferred rooms.

Also, does anyone have a suggestion about which area is best. There will be 6 people (age range 28-40) staying in 3 rooms. Just found out my sister is pregnant, so the less walking the better. We will be using a mix of rental car and disney bus, and will not be eating on-site. We would maybe use the pool 1 day, so its ok if the walk to the pool is far.

Any thoughts?

As for where to make the requests .. I would do so by calling the CRS and letting them know there, have it applied to your reservation. Aside from that there is a FAX line near the front of this thread that you can send the request to, I believe this gets to the resort directly.

Now... as for what section to request. It really does depend but based on your brief insights I would look to Casitas, seeing as the dig-site (main pool) isn't of much concern. The Casitas 4 &5 are nearest the first on/first off stop for Disney busses to the parks, so that would be beneficial for those using the on-site transportation system.

Good luck with your selections, and have a great time .... :thumbsup2

Thank you for your awesome and most detailed review. It is very much appreciated. It sounds that overall it was a great trip. Sorry about the grumpy golf cart driver. Unfortunately, he is right...the golf carts are no longer used for guests (only luggage and convention guests who pay for the service), but that was no excuse for him to be grumpy to you since the spa called for one for you. As for your daughter's birthday, I'm sorry it took so long to get something for her. However, when you call the front desk, you really are NOT getting the front desk--you are still getting a call center that answers CSR (as they see the phone call is coming from CSR) front desk. It is always better in these situations to walk to the front desk when you have a special request or have an issue with something in the room or at the resort.

Once again, thanks for the great review.

You need to call CRO (Central Reservations) and get your location noted on your reservation. Do it soon as they "assign" rooms about five days ahead of time (although your room could be changed when you check in). There is no way to do it online.

I would ask for Casitas 4 or 5 if you are not planning. There is a quiet pool, laundry and spa there. It is close to the first Bus Stop picked up and if you only plan on using the pool one day (the main pool that is), it is about an eight or ten minute walk from there depending on how quickly you walk.

Am I right that Bus Stop 2 is the first picked-up and let-off? We asked to be close to #2.

This is true for busses to and from the Parks (AK, MK, Epcot, DHS), however it is the second stop for the busses to/from DTD I believe.

Side Note:There is a tonne of information on the first page of this thread - thanks again Kat, it's been great in helping us make decisions throughout the planning process.

Gee, I really don't know. You've thrown me for a loop on this one. Maybe someone else has done this and can help? :confused3

I stumped the master! I did get a PM answer from MickMan_03 that there wouldn't be a charge, hope that's right, thanks again!
