Let me get this straight--there is a section on the online checkin for room requests, right? I have thought that I would like to wait for that, but I also definitely do NOT want a room on the first floor.

Hi All! We are booked September 16-21st for our first visit to CSR. We have previously stayed at POR three times and off property on several visits. Can't wait and this thread is fabulous!

Hey all, I've heard the Ranchos seem to be undesirable, is it just the distance thing? I'm all for having a quiet pool and don't mind a walk. Usually we like a quick dip after a long day at the parks, but don't need to go to the big pool. We've stayed at POR the past two times, and made more use of the quiet pools.

TIA

Not sure where in CSR we're staying.

The agent at Small World Vacations told me that Disney would assign the room 24-48 hours before our arrival.

Yes, there is now a space to request a section at online check-in, or you can call and have it noted on your reservation. Rooms are assigned a few days before arrival, so I wouldn't wait until the last day to do online check-in if you want to make a request that way.

:welcome: Hope you have a great stay! Ask us lots of questions - we love having stuff to do! :goodvibes

:welcome: to the DIS!

Yes, it is the distance thing, although some people don't like the desert look of the ranchos (there are pictures on the first page). The ranchos section is generally the quietest location, and the ranchos bus stop is the second one picked up on the way to the parks (bus stop #3). Ranchos 7B is close to the Dig Site, quiet pool and laundry - it is a nice spot. 6A and 7A are the farthest away, but they are closer to the bus stop and about 15 minutes to the main building.

That's about right. You can have your travel agent request an area, but it is just a request. If you booked preferred, you will be in casitas 1, 2 or 3.

Can anyone that's been to CSR lately, tell me about the lunch buffet? We are going in Sept and plan on spending most of the morning and lunch time around the resort. We are going to be eating at the buffet numerous times. Is there enough variety at the buffet? What kind of foods do they have at Cafe Rix at lunch time? Thanks for your help.

Thanks, StitchandPoohsMom. I guess I'll be on the phone today again modifying my reservation. They probably have my number on alert by now, lol.

Anywho, this is my request--top floor, Cabanas section. I don't want to be in the one area without an elevator--isn't that one of the buildings in the Casitas? I'm all for taking the stairs, but NOT when I have walked all up and down stairs all day at Blizzard Beach.

Oh, and I need to add a question--I understand there is a sidewalk over to BB. I fully understand that this path has to cross the road. Have any of you ever done it? How would it compare timewise to walking from the Beach Club to Hollywood Studios?

Wow, what a great thread! We are heading back to CSR in just a few weeks after staying there in Feb '09. Now I am stressing about the room location again!
Last time we stayed in Cabanas 8b and we got a room facing the parking lot...of course, I was a little disappointed at first BUT in the morning, we could see the bus pulling up from a few feet back and then run over, it was GREAT!
I may just request Cabanas first floor again...ugh! Too many choices!!!

I CANNOT WAIT to get back to CSR, we LOVED the resort-y feel here and now that the pepper market is just 1 CS, we will be taking advantage of that.

For our upcoming trip, we requested Ranchos for this very reason. We've come to value any quiet places in the World! The Ranchos sounds like our cup of tea! I'm excited to stay there - I love the theme of that area and can't wait to get there!!!!!!!! Close to a bus stop, a quiet pool, and we don't mind the walk - it really doesn't appear that bad to us.

Actually Ranchos is not that far!
The only part of Ranchos that is bad (for distance) is 7A or the back side of 7B and very back of 6A. We have stayed in 6B twice.... and it was a quick cut thru the Dig Site area, over the little bridge and you are right there at El Centro.
Take a look at the map!
You will see too that 8A is next to the Dig Site, but just as far from El Centro as parts of Ranchos.

Building 5 and parts of 4.... both in Casistas are actually farther than parts of Ranchos!! Because you have to walk all the way around the lake!

We much rather be in Ranchos!!!
It is so peaceful and beautiful!!! Almost like when we got to our room we were completely in another place! such a great break from the parks!!!

Seriously.... if get assigned Ranchos and you ask them to show you the map before you leave the check in desk, look to see if your room is one of the farther portions.

Have fun!!!

We requested top floor 9B for our tenth anniversary. There is always a chance right? :flower3:

The casitas quiet pool is near casita 4. The ranchos quiet pool is near 7B. The cabanas quiet pool is near 9A. Since you booked a waterview room, you can request a view of a quiet pool (other water views are the lake or the fountains).

I haven't used the spa, but Kathy (KatMark) gets a massage every trip. :goodvibes

The casitas quiet pool is next to casita 4 - this is a non-preferred building. Casita 3 (preferred) is also close to the quiet pool. Casita 4 is closest to the bus stop, gym and pool, but since it is a standard building, you can request it, but you might end up in another section entirely.

Your choices (as I see it):

Stick with preferred but request casita 3, ground floor. You can ask at check-in if you can be in casita 4, but I don't think they will refund the room difference. Keeping the preferred room guarantees you will be in casita 1, 2 or 3, at least at the time of your initial room assignment. Even if you are placed in casita 1, you'll be less than five minutes to the pool.

Or, book a standard room and request casita 4. But you could end up in ranchos or cabanas. They each have quiet pools, but the casita quiet pool is the lap pool.

Here is a map of CSR that might help:

Thank you, so maybe if I requested Casitas 3 closest to the lap pool? I would still get the best of both worlds :)

Thanks for your perspective. I am SO excited!

Hmmm.. . now after looking at the busstop order, knowing I have a vehicle if needed, and knowing we have the DxDP, so we really don't need to visit the main building too often, I'm wondering if we should try the Ranchos section.

Just booked CSR with free dining. It has been awhile since we have stayed here. Last time we were in the Ranchos section and it did not bother us at all. I have not decided whether or not to request a certain section. I may just request top floor and take a chance on location.

I know there is a thread dedicated to the refillable mugs but my question is specific to CSR. Can anyone there now please confirm the design? We were at ASMu in '09 and it was the red mug with yellow, red or black lid & handle. At CBR in '11 it was the beach/swimming scene with aqua, pink, yellow or black lid & handle. I've been reading it's the same design for '12, which makes sense since it just changed in '11. Then I read yesterday on another board (not Dis) it was back to the red mugs from our '09 trip. That poster also commented there are resort specific mugs again. They posted a picture of a couple of them. Which made me even more  Also--do all mugs have the "chip" in them now or is it just the AS mugs as a test?

Anyone???

Am here now...the refillable mug is a cartoon photo scene at a swimming pool with Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Mickie. You can choose the color of your lid/handle...either hot pink, aqua blue or black. In the bottom it says Disney Parks Let the Memories Begin. I don't see any chip or anything. I don't think they Are resort specific because I have seen folks out and about with the same mug...hanging from strollers and backpacks, etc.

We stayed in the Ranchos last October and I was a little anxious about it becasue so many people seem to dislike that section. We LOVED it! Our room was right next to a quiet pool, just walk out the door and jump in. The section over all was quiet seemed like we had it all to ourselves at times. It is a bit of a walk to El Centro, but its a peaceful walk and hey its Diseny we expect to walk a lot anyway, work off all that yummy food... I think a lot of people dont like the design of the Ranchos. I agree the exterior is kind of blah but the room was beautiful and again it was so Quiet.

My online check-in day is coming up this week. After considering all the conferences that will be at CSR.. I am leaning towards choosing Ranchos. The only downside to this is that they will be doing some sort of roof work or painting. But, I assume they will be doing this during the day when we are not in our room. Last trip, I booked a preferred room because of my mom and dad. The distance to and from El Centro/PM really does not matter to my best friend and I. :hippie:

PS. It also looks like the whole resort is pretty much booked from 3/24-3/29. The only open rooms are Casitas 1 bdrm and Executive suite..
(Hopeful the resort has been over-booked, haha!)

18 days......
Things I am excited about:
-enjoying a piña coloda at Siesta's
-playing with the kids and laying out at the Dig Site
-the walk to El Centro to pick up muffins and croissants each AM
-a yummy dinner at the Maya Grill
-Coronado Beds

Oh...and the parks too. Spring break can't come fast enough.
