I am preparing for our FIRST ever trip to WDW:banana: :banana:

I've read through this entire thread , but have a couple of questions:

1. DH is attending a conference at the Swan/Dolphin and we are staying at the CSR. I'll be with the kids (twin boys, almost 8) flying solo with them virtually the whole time. I'd like to make a room request, to make the most of this trip... if you were staying with 2 8-year olds, where would you request your room? Should I just say "close to dig site" or do you have another suggestion?

2. We have a rental car - Would you suggest the kids and I take the bus, or driving to the parks? Also, I've heard that you need to pay to park at the Swan/Dolphin -- if DH drives himself there, can you suggest a way he could avoid paying for parking?

Thanks so much -- I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all the reading and planning that I've been doing... I really want to make the most of this trip!

I like Cabanas 8A to be close to the Dig Site. It's also close to the bus stop. We did have problems last March catching a MK bus. It was full and drove right by our stop. We ended up driving. Even parking at the TTC and taking a monorail we beat our fellow bus stop guests into the park. This is a very rare occurance at CSR. MK was listed as the park to avoid in TP, and crowds were particularly high for Mardi Gras break.

Depending on the time his conferences start and the time you plan to hit the parks, it might be easiest to drop him off at his conference and drive to the park, especially if you are heading to DHS or Epcot. Make sure he has good directions how to get to the conference room. Back when they had MouseFest, we got lost finding the conference room. The elevator we got on didnt stop at every floor. It was a maze finding where to go.

I have read there is an overflow lot by the Hess gas station, not sure if this is only for cm or if it is for guests too? He would have a long walk to his conference from there.

DH and I booked a preferred room - are those JUST Casitas 1, 2, and 3 or are any of the Cabanas in that as well?

I've stared at the map for along time and I think Cabanas 8B or 9A are somewhat ideal. Not super close to El Centro, but I can still fill our mugs at one of the QS places by the Dig Site, right?

I've read so much, I can't keep track of what I read anymore!

So my question in less words...preferred room worth the extra money? And Casitas or Cabanas? I'm most concerned with refilling our mugs and getting to buses. While it would be nice to be close to Pepper Market, I only see us eating there once (and probably doing so on the way to or back from a park, so I'd just take the El Centro bus).

Thanks again! 52 more days of research to cloud my head :)

Casitas 1, 2, 3 put you close only to El Centro. Cafe Rix is where you would refill your mug from there. This is opened much longer at night than the QS at the Dig Site. It's also opened much earlier in the morning, 6am vs 11am at the QS at the Dig Site.

Personally I would not want preferred only for fear of getting "no man's land" in building 2. I don't remember specifically which block of rooms this is.

We stayed in all 3 sections this past year. At least once we walked to El Centro from our building. It's a lovely walk, especially at night when all the lights are on around the resort. If it's hot outside, it can be a VERY HOT walk during the daytime. Our night time ritual is a walk to Cafe Rix for a gelato and a refill!!

I would request the Cabanas...not as close to the Dig Site as some Ranchos Bldgs. but close enough and closer to El Centro.

:)

Looks like we will be arriving at CSR 2 days after you!! We stay till the 6th. (And we requested Cabanas.) If I see you there, I'll be sure to say HI!! :wave2:

Can anyone suggest to me a good location for my fiance and I at CSR? We will be going on out honeymoon in September, I will be 24 he will be 30. This is his first time, and only my second time at Disney. We most likely will be using a lot of the quiet pool instead of the Dig Site, and probably the hot tub later in the night to relax after a long day at the parks. We will be spending a lot of time out at the parks, except for maybe on arrival day. While I am not the biggest fan of the Ranchos style, any suggestions would be great! Oh, and we will be driving so a place where our car can be parked close would be nice as well.

I would recommend Casitas 4! There is a quiet pool, spa and fitness center. At night the lighting at the Casitas romantically transforms the courtyards and gardens.

Thank you! I just checked out Buzz's website and that was actually the suggestion on there as well for adult couples!! I'm going to keep my fingers crossed we can get it. As of right now there are no conventions for this time, except one departing on the day we arrive. Hopefully it stays that way ;)

Fourth floor of casita 2. I can't remember specifically the room numbers, but anything that starts with 24xx is not good.

:thumbsup2 The casitas are the most romantic, IMO. Casitas 4 and 5 are not preferred buildings, and they aren't too far from the Dig Site, where the hot tub is.

Ranchos would be the quietest and most secluded, but I think the casitas are the prettiest. We like cabanas with kids because it is near the Dig Site - it is very popular with families.

I think that is why we were going to at least stay away from the Cabanas. Trust me I love kids, and I know I am at Disney, but I feel a lot of families would prefer the cabanas for that reason so we wanted to try to avoid it just a little :goodvibes I don't think I would be disappointed with ranchos, I just think the sites of casitas are prettier.

If I am correct, Casitas #1 is connected to El Centro. Are 2 and 3 covered (indoor or outdoor) to Casitas #1? Thanks!

we are an adult couple and the Casitas 4 sounds good...my question: is this near either Cafe Rix or the lobby? We are on free quick service dining, and plan to use the refillable mug a bit so would like to be closer to one of these locations to refill the mug.

thanks!

I would second this recommendation. We were in Casitas 4 for our trip last October and we really enjoyed the pool. It's a beautiful area during the day, but it really is a very romantic place at night. It's about a 5 to 7 minute walk back to El Centro depending on your walking style.

We were in Casitas 4 back in October and it was about a 5 to 7 minute walk (depending on your walking style) back to El Centro where Cafe Rix and the lobby are located. Unless you pay for a preferred location, I think this is about as close as you are going to get to those locations unless one of the Cabanas buildings is closer.

Not sure if anyone had posted this, but according to the current list of closings, the Ranchos Pool is slated to be closed 3/11/12-3/14/12. Just a heads up for anyone who may be going to CSR during that time frame.

I've chosen CSR for the trip. DH is not a huge WDW fan but is going again because of the baby (ok, he's 2 1/2!!) so I wanted a Moderate for a little more amenties. (DD and I stay at Pop, clean room, hot showers, we're good to go). I expect we will spend a good deal of time at the resort. I'm thinking of requesting Cabanas 8b or 9a. Looking to be semi-close to the Dig Site but not a huge trek to PM or a bus stop. Do they still have a campfire and movies at night? Jayson might like that too. I'm usually an uber-planner and I'm desperately trying NOT to plan too much this time, just go with what my little monkey boy wants to do. We have free QS (he'll eat free at the breakfast & lunch buffets at PM because of his age correct?) and I've booked 1 character breakfast at Tusker House. Any suggestions on room request, resort activities etc would be greatly appreciated.

And could someone post the link to Buzz's website?

8B and 9A are great locations - not too far from the Dig Site or El Cetnro. Our favorite is 8A because it is super close to the Dig Site, but anywhere in the cabanas would be good. They do still have the campfire and movies at night - you will get a schedule at check-in.

Kids under three eat free at all buffets, family-style and character meals.

Enjoy your trip!

Are there different locations other than the main building at CSR that you can refill your mug at. It is just my partner and I. I am more than a bit of a Diet Coke-:rolleyes1aholic!

Our first request is to be in Casitas 4 or 5. Would El Centro be the best place to go for refills if there is another place?

You can fill your mug at Cafe Rix (El Centro) or Siesta's (Dig Site). Cafe Rix has longer hours and would be closer to casitas 4 and 5.

HEY!! ME TOO!! :rotfl:

However, one family member going with us is a total Pepsi freak. Can you even buy a Pepsi in the little on-site store, or in one of the vending machines? (Not sure she'd really want to "pay" for one since we'll have the refillable mugs, but she may want one to keep in the fridge for evening/mornings. And before you ask, yes, she drinks them in the morning too.)

Nope, Pepsi products are not sold on Disney property, period. They are not even at the gas stations that are on Disney property. Your family member will have to stash some in her suitcase or live without it.

She might be able to have some delivered by Costco, Staples, or Garden Grocer.
