Coronado Springs Resort -- New Unofficial FAQ Thread -- November 2009

First, I apologize for not being around to answer all you wonderful people's questions. I've been out of town for wrestling with our son (well, he didn't wrestle--long story) and now my brother is in the hospital in serious condition. So I'm going to try to play catch up.

Hi, we have a reservation to stay at CSR at the end of April , with a waterview room.

I have looked at the maps & would prefer to stay at Cabanas or Casitas, would this be the most likely areas for us to be given automatically as Ranchos seems to be more of a desert type area.

If not is there an email address for requests as I don't have access to an fax machine with international dialling access.

There is no "automatically" given area. Since you don't have access to a fax machine, I would have it noted on your reservation.

We have been having some trouble picking a resort...actually just posted a thread yesterday. Dh and I really like the look of CSR, but decided against it because of some things I've read. Very large, slow buses that can be really packed, food court not that great...

We reserved a spot at POFQ, but just aren't really into that theme. I'm having trouble getting excited for the trip. We have little ones, so I liked the idea of staying there because it's small and has only one bus stop. We need a food court, as we don't plan on many ts meals.

What would you suggest for requests if we decide to change our ressie? We want to be able to get a seat on the bus once in a while (we have a double umbrella stroller, two kids and a baby) and want to be somewhat close to the restaurants. Being a little farther from the main pool isn't a big deal...there are smaller pools throughout the resort, right?

TIA!

We've never stayed at POFQ so I can't comment on it. I can tell you that the talk of the "long walks" is overexaggerated in our opinion. We've had a longer walk at the CR to the food or pool than any stay at the CSR (and we've stayed CSR eight times). I don't know where you've read about really slow and crowded buses; most reports I've read of our pretty timely buses and very seldom having to stand. Of course, there is always a bad day -- but that can happen at any resort. We always rent a car, but we did use a bus in September and took it to the MK. We waited less than five minutes for the bus around 5:30 - 6 at night and it took exactly ten minutes to get to the MK.

This is our first trip to CSR, but we're going to request the Cabanas. I'm ready to get out of this yucky weather already!

I'm with you on the yucky weather. We've no trip planned, so I live through all of your trips. :)

I hope I can answer some of your questions and concerns.

1) CSR is big.... The answer is yes but we stayed at POP this past October and did more walking there than when we stayed at CSR in March. We stayed in Cabanas 8B and it was the perfect location. 5 minute walk to both El Centro and the Dig Site and 1 minute walk to both the laundry and a quiet pool.

2) Slow busses... We had great experiences with the busses here. Cabanas is the 2nd to last stop picked up and it is the 3rd stop dropping off. There are only 4 stops here which isn't too bad. CBR has a million stops. The cababas bus stop was about a 1 minute walk from our room. Unlike POP where you stand in line waiting, and waiting, and.. well you get the picture, CSR busses were great. Keep in mind bus service is variable at any resort at any given time throughout the day.

3) Food Court..... People have a love-hate relationship with the Pepper Market. It is different from all other Disney food courts in the ordering process. But the food is made right in front of you so you know it is fresh. It also is a little pricey, which doesn't matter if you are on the DDP. There also is the pool bar for snack type food. The nacho's are great!

If I were staying at CSR again I would ask for the same section... Cabanas 8B, 8A, 9A (in that order) ground floor, so you can wheel right to the room without stairs or using the elevator. You would be 2-3 minutes from the quiet pool and 5 minutes from both the Dig Site & El Centro. I have a full write up in my TR http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2115466 Post #29 is when we arrived at CSR.

My daughter was 2 at the time and I couldn't of asked for a better resort and a better location. If you have any more questions ask away!!!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the detailed facts, Tim!

....well, now that my DS and his GF will be leaving CSR this afternoon, the weather is going to warm up a bit by the end of the week....:confused3 oh well...

Isn't that always the way!?!?!?

And we are leaving in 2 hours! Had to check in one more time! Packed for winter and summer....crazy! I'll check back in when we get home in 10 days! wa-hoo! :dance3:

Hope you are having a great time.

Just booked our first stay at CSR for May 22-27th, we are suprising the boys and picking them up on the last day of school and driving to florida. We have stayed at the Poly (loved it!), POR (loved it) and now CSR. Main issue for us was getting the 2 queen beds, my husband and I are too tall to sleep in doubles. Looking forward to it! Haven't made a room request yet but I've scanning this thread for the best options. :)

We stayed at the Poly three or four times before we stayed at the CSR. We've now stayed at the CSR eight of our last nine trips (that stray trip was back to the Poly for our oldest son's high school graduation). The CSR is beautiful and it has become our home away from home. Hope you enjoy it half as much as us!

Hello all, my family and I have just booked our first stay with CSR for July 2nd to July 8th. This willbe our first time staying on Disney property and everyone thinks we are staying at POP. I secretly upgraded to CSR yesterday and am so excited!!!

What an awesome surprise for your family. And you'll be able to enjoy the pool because you will for sure have hot weather! :rotfl2: I think since you are surprising your family that they should surprise you when you get there with a massage at the CSR! ;)

Does anyone have any info they can provide me with regarding the conventions? I will be staying 6/3-6/10 and read that there will be a convention there? Will it ruin the magic of Disney for me? Would Cabanas be a good request to make to stay away from the convention?

Thanks!

We've stayed eight times and there has always been one or two conventions each visit. We have NEVER had a problem with the convention people. We make sure we don't go to breakfast or lunch at "key times" for the conventioneers. 95% of the time we don't even know they are there unless we see them in the morning walking to their meetings or at the outdoor bar having a drink after their meetings.

We are leaving in 10 days for CSR I am so excited and nervous at the same time.

Any requests for pictures while I am there?

We always love having more pictures for our CSR photo thread. So anything you want to take, please do. And thank you! Have a great time.

We arrive March 13. I am thinking the following may be good areas to request (knowing we may get none of them): DO NOT WANT RANCHOS

Casita 1 or 3
Cabana 9A or 9B

Trying to get fairly close to El Centro and would prefer a waterview if possible. From the map I have these look like fairly good choices. While being in the Dig Site area is desirable I don't know that we will have a lot of time for swimming, etc. We have one day earmarked as a resort/no park day with breakfast at Cape May and dinner at Kona Cafe......hope to fit in some swim time in between. Hubby would like the Casitas as they are close to the fitness center.

Our favorite is Casitas 4 and 5 -- close to the fitness center/spa and about a five minute walk to the main building and about seven minutes to the main pool.

This is going to sound totally weird, and I'm a little scared of saying it here, because I remember a thread in the strategies forum about this, and that poor woman got flamed big time... but as it was mentioned, I'll tell you guys:

This trip is going to be just me and DS6, who has autism. My DD doesn't know we're going. She thinks I'm taking him to have therapy "out of town."

I've had a really hard time getting excited for this trip because I feel so horribly guilty for not bringing her.

There were a couple of factors.. the first was the money. I can't afford to take both kids. Now I know that the logical thing to do is to wait until I CAN afford it. But this trip is my DS's birthday present and sort of a "celebration" of his getting through three years of intensive autism therapy. He has no friends, so he had no party for birthdays and such.

DD has tons of friends, and I threw her a huge party with all her friends, and I do every year.

Also, DD has been to Disney four times, two of which were without her brother. She's only seven. I'm planning on taking both kids next year.

The other factor is that she's in first grade now.. and she'd be missing a week of school. (yet another topic that is heavily debated on this board) I wouldn't mind so much if it were just a couple days, but I've noticed that now that she's in first grade, there's quite a lot of work to make up after only ONE day, much less five. So next year, when I bring both kids, I'll plan the dates better.

So anyway.. I would love to run into any or all members of this board. It would be great. I'd especially enjoy the opportunity to talk with other adults! My DS is non-verbal, so 95% of my conversations will be one sided.

But DS doesn't "play" with other kids, much to my sorrow. We'd still love to meet you, though.

I hope I haven't offended anyone. I know I babble. And I know maybe not all of my reasoning sounds rational to everyone. But I did the best I could.

Please, no flames. It's hard enough.

Do NOT feel weird or guilty. You deserve this trip and I think it is wonderful that you are taking your son. I hope anyone reading this that will be there the same time you are will be sure to sit and visit with you. I only wish we were going to be there as I would be delighted to meet you and sit and visit.

Oh.. and to anyone who will by chance be there when we will.. I have some Lime Green Mickey Heads from Home Depot, so I'll try and make a point of putting one on the door or window of our room. Feel free to knock and say hello.

I'll stick one on my bag too. :)

Girl, I'll totally come by and chat you up if I see it! One of my good friends has a son with autism who is non-verbal, so I know the need to have some conversation!

Oh good! I hope you find me, then!

I'm sure I'll be spending some time by the kiddie pool too, if it's warm enough. He loves to sit in the kiddie pool. Works for me, because I don't have to get in the water, then! :)

We'll be in the kiddie pool some too with my 7 month old! If you see a little girl who has no front teeth but looks way too young to have lost them (she knocked them out when she was 2), that's my 4 year old, and I should be nearby! :P

:grouphug: You've come (and are going to :lmao: )to the right place, the CSR thread is wonderful & warm.
Have a wonderful trip! I'd sure love to visit if I were there.....have fun!! :wizard:
:grouphug:

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I appreciate them.

Meanwhile, mom2maggie, I will watch for you! It will be great to have someone to chat with, for sure!

I wish there were a bunch of us going all at once. I'd love to meet you all!

To all who are going soon, enjoy!!

Our ADR day is next month and I've been working on a schedule and ADR choices. I made certain to include some downtime at the resort so our kids can enjoy the pool slide. : )

We just booked our first trip to CSR yesterday and decided not to opt for the water view room. We're thinking that Cabana 8 would work well for us as we will have our own car and will not be eating at the restaurants at the resort. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me decide which section would work best for our family? We want to be relatively close to the main pool and still close to the parking lot.
Thanks

Cranleys, I just called yesterday and told them what I wanted to be near and they gave me good ideas. I had the map and already had ideas, and the matched up with what they said. We want to be closer to the food than the pool but Cabanas 8 & 9 look good for us and there is the bridge that goes over to the dig site area (I think), I don't think we'll have much time to swim except for the 1 day we have set aside to hang out at the resort and maybe the day we check in, but we have been "guaranteed" a waterview. We also have a Casita as second choice (so hubby can be closer to the fitness center).

I think 8B & 9A would be your best bets. 8B is a little closer to the Dig Site... 9A has the quiet pool. :goodvibes

....a little 'side-story' of the continued Pixie Dust that my DS experienced:

...since the weather was not 'typical' for this time of year, my DS and his GF decided to visit the arcade at CSR, while it rained heavily. Several of the pool's lifeguards were there, so they 'gave' them 'free access' to all the games in the arcade. My DS and his GF played a host of activities for almost 3 hours!

And who says that the CSR has "unfriendly" staff? Thank you for sharing.

Okay, we've been back for about a week and I needed to report on our 9 days at Disney spending them at CSR. To make a long story short because I don't have the energy to report on everything....we won't be visiting the CSR again. I appreciate everybody's advice, comments and info because I had my ressies for over a year and looked forward to this trip so much. We arrived on Feb 2nd and I had spent much time making ressies for a handicap room after speaking with special services. I had requested a mattress topper for my bad back. We arrived at 4 pm and spent about 45 minutes trying to check in because of some mixup with the room. They had a hard time figuring out the 'notes' regarding the handicap room on first floor for some reason. No note was seen about the topper but I finally had that delivered to the room while were at dinner later that evening (do you think they took the time to actually put in on the bed? No, they left it rolled up in a big plastic bag for me to deal with). Anyway, I was very upset with the chair situation. I have a very bad back and I did not realize that only one office chair was in the room. We were in Casitas 4 room 4111. The chair killed my back. I asked the staff three times if there were ANY padded chairs ANYWHERE. Finally on Friday, the housekeeping manager Alice pulled through with a padded chair which was a Godsend! If I had known that this resort had no padded chair of any sort, then I would not have stayed there. I cannot sit in bed on pillows with my back, so it was a very stressful first few days.

On the first night, we went to the Pepper Market about 5 to eat dinner after driving for about 7 hours. I was very surprised to walk thru Cafe Rix and the Pepper Market and see that it appeared nobody was working. No cooks at Cafe Rix. I had to wait for 10 min to get somebody's attention to order a cuban sandwich. While walking thru Pepper Market, my husband had a hard time finding any cooked food to choose from other than the baked goods and some dishes under suran wrap. I was very put off by this. I heard that a convention had just left and it was as if nobody else was worth cooking for since the big convention checked out. Weird. We did eat at the Pepper Market twice. No happy camper here. On one night my husband wanted a cheesesteak sans onions - first time they made it with onions and it had to be remade. I was finished eating myself while I waited 35 minutes for him. He has more patience then me, I would have walked away. I ordered the rotisserie chicken w/veggies and fries. Never have I seen side veggies consist of a large half of a bell pepper. No strips of pepper but a whole half a bell pepper? That and a half onion were my side veggies. Disappointing. The chicken was good as were the fries.

Now that I've been to the property, I would prefer a resort where the food and main bldg are connected to my room. It rained three times and the temps were so very cold. It was a long haul to eat from where our room was in the rain and 40 degree temps with 30 mph gusts!

A large towel cart was left out in the hallway the entire stay near the spa which was close to our room. The wind whipped the plastic cover all night long. Very odd. It made a lot of noise and I had no idea whey they'd leave 'fresh' towels folded up on a cart with the rain and moisture for that length of time. After a week, the plastic cover was ripped in pieces because of the wind whipping at it for so long.

The beds were made but I had to request sheets be changed. I found out that when you request clean sheets, they do not give you clean pillow cases or blankets! I noticed that the tub was not cleaned during our stay. I did the 'hair test' and could locate a hair from the shower and find that it was still in place later that night. It because a bit of a game - after being at the parks we'd walk in and I'd find a stray hair in the same place as it was before we left that morning. They did not clean the coffee pot and often did not replace with fresh coffee. I only had new coffee packets brought 3 days out of our 9. I drank coffee a few mornings but wondered when the last time was that the pot was thoroughly cleaned.

Even though it was cold outside at night, the room would get warm and I prefer it cooler then warmer. I tried the bypass instructions posted here but they didn't work at night. For some reason it would work in the daytime but at night I'd wake up with the room in the 70s. I prefer to sleep with the room temp around 65-68. Don't know why it wouldn't work at night.

Overall, we were not happy with the food choices AT ALL and that was a major disappointment. On several days we wanted to get back to the room and relax but we knew that we needed to eat dinner in the parks because the Pepper Market or Cafe Rix was a no-go. The Maya Grill just seemed very expensive and we didn't see anything we wanted so we never tried it. Panchitos was a nice store with a wide variety so that was a plus. The lack of a comfortable chair was major. Those ottamans took up too much room. Not comfortable to try to sit on at all and too heavy to move to the bathroom for putting on makeup. Oh, it would be nice if there was a light near the bed that was not so DANG bright! A soft light that was close enough to turn on and off in bed - how simple. I know it sounds like I'm crazy but if you've stayed in the casitas then you know what I mean about the bright light over your head in bed.

So, next visit we'll try somewhere else. Oh, before I forget....the buses sucked. Most times it took 20-30 minutes in the rain for the bus to show up. First day we waited 45 minutes for the Magic Kingdom bus to show up in the morning just to get us there. We watched so many other buses come and go and wondered ..where is ours?

And lastly, checked out at 8:50 am. Only one person was working while many others stood around and looked busy. We were second in line. I tried to use my Disney rewards card to help pay the balance. I called the night before and was told as long as we get there by 11 a.m, they won't charge my credit card and I can use the rewards card. Of course, that was wrong. They charged my credit card and then it took 45 minutes for the lady to figure out what the extra charges (t-shirts and souvenirs) were and how to use the rewards card. Then she told me that the card was declined even though it had a balance and I knew it was good. She tried 3x and FINALLY it worked. By the time we left the counter, a line of 22 people had formed to check out. God knows how long it would take them since it took us so long (and only 10 minutes of that 45 was spent dealing with the Visa rewards card).

Glad to be home!
:sad1:

I am glad you tried the CSR, but I am very sorry that your stay there was so disappointing. Unfortunately, not every resort is for everyone and I can understand your not wanting to visit with the issues you had. I hope the rest of your vacation was successful though.

pixietwin, I am so sorry your experience at CSR was not what you had hoped.

Unfortunately, many of the issues you mentioned happen at every resort and we have experienced many of the same issues. I wish you'd thought to stop by the front desk and speak with a manager while there to give him/her the opportunity to help sort things out for you.

The topper for the bed was likely delivered by a runner - a call to housekeeping and they would have sent proper CM's to make up the bed for you. When it happen to me at SSR and POP, I put in a call to the housekeeping manager, explained the situation and she had someone there to make up the bed within a few minutes (and later checked to be sure it was done properly with 3 sheets).

None of the resorts change sheets every day anymore - only by request. Everything must be requested now and very specifically. Blankets and bedspreads are not even changed between guests.

A towel cart is left out for the convenience of guests who may want more fresh towels - guests can take what they need from the cart.

The bus issue can be the same at any resort - we've had the longest bus waits at GF and BWI, FQ for a moderate and shortest at POP.

It is always disappointing when we look forward to a resort, but as we know, when we try a new place, it might not turn out to be our cup of tea. I heard so many wonderful reports about Port Orleans Riverside, especially the food court, but we could not wait to check out of the place.

I so hope your next resort stay will be just what you are hoping for!:goodvibes

Oh boy, not what I want to hear when I am headed there tomorrow and already a bit nervous as it is our first non-deluxe stay.

What are these by pass instructions mentioned??? :confused3

...hmm, seems that it was corrected recently - my DS said that the bus waits (for HIM, anyways!) was no longer than 10 minutes....the longest he DID have to wait was for DTD (almost 20 minutes)...:confused3 He did mention, howver, that, when returning to CSR, the drop-off order was inconsistant - cometimes the 1st drop-off was Station #1 and other times it was Station #3(?),,,so, sometimes, they were among the FIRST to be dropped off, and other times the LAST...

Looking for some help. My family is going down mid April-staying at CSR. Our plan is to do some breakfasts in room, cereal primarily. However, our son is lactose intolerant. Does anyone know if the CSR store sells Lactaid or something similar? I've done a few thread searches but haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks!
