Hello all, my family and I have just booked our first stay with CSR for July 2nd to July 8th. This willbe our first time staying on Disney property and everyone thinks we are staying at POP. I secretly upgraded to CSR yesterday and am so excited!!!

Does anyone have any info they can provide me with regarding the conventions? I will be staying 6/3-6/10 and read that there will be a convention there? Will it ruin the magic of Disney for me? Would Cabanas be a good request to make to stay away from the convention?

Thanks!

And we are leaving in 2 hours! Had to check in one more time! Packed for winter and summer....crazy! I'll check back in when we get home in 10 days! wa-hoo! :dance3:

...55 degrees there today and not a cloud in sight! :thumbsup2

We are leaving in 10 days for CSR I am so excited and nervous at the same time.

Any requests for pictures while I am there?

Thanks so much for offering. Would love to see pictures of the Ranchos section i.e. 6a, 6b really anything Ranchos.

Have a lovely time. Can't wait to hear all your stories.

Thanks again--can't wait for the pictures.:goodvibes:goodvibes

We have been having some trouble picking a resort...actually just posted a thread yesterday. Dh and I really like the look of CSR, but decided against it because of some things I've read. Very large, slow buses that can be really packed, food court not that great... On the boards, I have read many, many, MANY more positive things about the CSR buses and the food than negative. I think CSR is a hidden gem, really---Nearly resort has a alot of walking--I agree w/ PP that the walk around CSR is exaggerated. POFQ has a lot of walking too and the bus there has quite a wiat at times.

We reserved a spot at POFQ, but just aren't really into that theme. I'm having trouble getting excited for the trip. We have little ones, so I liked the idea of staying there because it's small and has only one bus stop. We need a food court, as we don't plan on many ts meals. I think your gut is trying to tell you something! :scared1: I'd call the resort directly to see how they respond to your concerns---they may be able tio reassure you if the posters can not. :thumbsup2

What would you suggest for requests if we decide to change our ressie? CSR!! We want to be able to get a seat on the bus once in a while (we have a double umbrella stroller, two kids and a baby) and want to be somewhat close to the restaurants. Being a little farther from the main pool isn't a big deal...there are smaller pools throughout the resort, right?

TIA!
I hope you change to another reosrt and get excited again about your vacation!

We have stayed at CSR when there was a convention and have not had any problems. We did see people walking around with lanyards and nametags. Depending on the size of the convention, the convention goers might all be in the Casitas or they might be scattered throughout the resort. Conventions also have the option of booking Cabana 9B as club level rooms if they choose to pay the price, so there could be convention goers in that building. I expect that they generally try to keep them together and close to the convention center, so I'd suggest Cabanas 8A and 8B and Ranchos 7B, 6A or 6B.

When Kathy sees your post, she'll probably have a much better answer for you. But I didn't want your question to get missed! :goodvibes

Edited to add - I think this is the link to the convention while you are there. You might find more info about number of guests, activities that may impact you, etc.

Thanks for your response! I'm just nervous. I have stayed at POP and All Star Sports my last two trips. I just want to feel like I am on vacation, I'm nervous that the conventioners might take that feel away a bit!

I clicked on the link (just nosy ;)), and it looks like they have stuff scheduled from early morning until 5 or 6 at night, with lunch served at the convention. There is a party the night of June 8. I think you would likely see them in the morning at Pepper Market or Cafe Rix, then out for dinner or at the bar on the night of the 9th (and maybe the 7th if they come early). That's all speculation, and I don't know how many people they are expecting or how many rooms are blocked off. I don't know if Disney could/would tell you if you called.

Some people are very bothered by seeing people with nametags and dressed in khakis when they are on vacation. If that will take away from the Disney feel for you, then it is good to know before you go. It doesn't bother us - we enjoy the empty pool and buses. But if it will impact your trip, it's best to know now so you can change if you need to.

Thanks for all of your help, I have some decisions to make! :surfweb:

We arrive March 13. I am thinking the following may be good areas to request (knowing we may get none of them): DO NOT WANT RANCHOS

Casita 1 or 3
Cabana 9A or 9B

Trying to get fairly close to El Centro and would prefer a waterview if possible. From the map I have these look like fairly good choices. While being in the Dig Site area is desirable I don't know that we will have a lot of time for swimming, etc. We have one day earmarked as a resort/no park day with breakfast at Cape May and dinner at Kona Cafe......hope to fit in some swim time in between. Hubby would like the Casitas as they are close to the fitness center.

When I was there last July...there were several different conventions.

You really won't notice them...would be my best guess. Most common place you would notice anybody would be at the Pepper Market which is right outside of the Convention area...or the sitting area at Laguna Bar.

There was a D.A.R.E. convention...I notice allot of Sheriff's cars from all over in the lots...and I saw allot of people wearing DARE Polos and Kahki's one Morning when I went for a walk...If it weren't for the Police cars...I wouldn't had noticed.

There was a Karate Exibition...notice this because there were a bunch of Teenagers in the "quite" pool talking...one evening...and another group in the Pepper Market. Teenagers can be loud whne they talk...that's the only way I noticed them...that and there wearing Gi's.

Only other thing I notice was one afternoon in the Pepper Market there were some business types (Jackets & Ties) that were totally confused about how the PM worked...again Hungry Conventioners + Quick Food = Pepper Market

We stayed in Cabanas 8B...the karate group I saw at the Pool were in 9A...I think the DARE People were spread out all over...but I suspect most conventioneers are corraled in the Castias.

Thanks for all of your input, I really appreciate it! I am the worst when it comes to making decisions!

This is going to sound totally weird, and I'm a little scared of saying it here, because I remember a thread in the strategies forum about this, and that poor woman got flamed big time... but as it was mentioned, I'll tell you guys:

This trip is going to be just me and DS6, who has autism. My DD doesn't know we're going. She thinks I'm taking him to have therapy "out of town."

I've had a really hard time getting excited for this trip because I feel so horribly guilty for not bringing her.

There were a couple of factors.. the first was the money. I can't afford to take both kids. Now I know that the logical thing to do is to wait until I CAN afford it. But this trip is my DS's birthday present and sort of a "celebration" of his getting through three years of intensive autism therapy. He has no friends, so he had no party for birthdays and such.

DD has tons of friends, and I threw her a huge party with all her friends, and I do every year.

Also, DD has been to Disney four times, two of which were without her brother. She's only seven. I'm planning on taking both kids next year.

The other factor is that she's in first grade now.. and she'd be missing a week of school. (yet another topic that is heavily debated on this board) I wouldn't mind so much if it were just a couple days, but I've noticed that now that she's in first grade, there's quite a lot of work to make up after only ONE day, much less five. So next year, when I bring both kids, I'll plan the dates better.

So anyway.. I would love to run into any or all members of this board. It would be great. I'd especially enjoy the opportunity to talk with other adults! My DS is non-verbal, so 95% of my conversations will be one sided.

But DS doesn't "play" with other kids, much to my sorrow. We'd still love to meet you, though.

I hope I haven't offended anyone. I know I babble. And I know maybe not all of my reasoning sounds rational to everyone. But I did the best I could.

Please, no flames. It's hard enough.

 Have a wonderful trip! I'm sure you are doing what is best for your family, so enjoy your time with your son.

Wish I were going to be there when you are! :goodvibes

Thanks for understanding. I really appreciate it. My daughter will be staying with my parents, who we live with anyway (long story.) I've left enough money for them to bring her and a friend to a nearby indoor waterpark. That will make her happy. At least she'll have some fun stuff to do while we're gone.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Oh.. and to anyone who will by chance be there when we will.. I have some Lime Green Mickey Heads from Home Depot, so I'll try and make a point of putting one on the door or window of our room. Feel free to knock and say hello.

I'll stick one on my bag too. :)
