Overall our stay at CSR was good. Some disappointments.
I had made one request only & that was to be as close to the main building as possible. However, when we arrived we were in Rancheros 7. This was pretty much as far away as you could get. I didn't create a fuss or request a change, although afterwards I wish I would have. She kept insisting we had this great poolview (quiet pool) (which we didn't pay for), however it was on the other side of the building from the pool totally (fine that is what we paid for but don't b.s. me by telling me how great our view will be). We followed her directions to get to our room on the side she had marked on the map (vs. the signs LOL) so we ended up walking all the way around the building before we finally reached our room since it was not where she said it was.
Needless to say this didn't start me off in the most visitor friendly mood to CSR & if I were smart I would have called the front desk & requested a room change, but I didn't want to have the kids get upset with me. I still planned on eating at elCentro, however, after the first park day I had open blisters on my feet so all walking was restricted to parks & the 'shortest' routes at all times, so we never enjoyed the food venues other than at the Dig Pool. (Blisters were mostly from excessive humidity & heat - caused feet to swell & rub - if we had actually HAD summer up here before going, I would have been somewhat conditioned LOL).
The building location was however close to Bus Stop 4. It was about a 1.5 minute walk down to the stop. Buses were great except one day. We waited through 3 or 4 MK buses in the afternoon (as well as others) & still no Epcot bus. We finally gave up & grabbed a MK bus & then hopped the monorail to Epcot. It probably took us longer in the long run, however, we just couldn't sit & wait & it gave us another monorail ride. We wanted to be on the move. The other family was on the phone when we left wondering where the bus was as they had been waiting just as long. Every other day we waited about 10 minutes max for a bus & were able to do rope drop 3 mornings at each park (a first for us). (For AK we took the car).
Room was very nice - nothing bad about it at all. Our floor (2nd) had a small trio of towel animals in the windows of the whole row, but no new ones added each day. The beds & pillows were very comfortable - kids threatened to steal the pillows. The bathroom exhaust fan was good & strong, but humidity was so high it was still an effort to keep the bathroom & yourself 'dry' after showering. This wasn't their fault - just extreme humidity & I did appreciate the strength of the fan that was in the bathroom - most have a 'wussy' fan.
Refrigerator did not cool well unless on max cool, however then it worked fine. It did not have a separate freezer compartment (we didn't need it but some might). We went to WM the first night & purchased a case of water, milk, cereal, granola bars & sugar free Starbucks frapps (since I knew I wouldn't make it to elCentro for coffee in the morning). Since we didn't plan on any leftovers I didn't request a microwave. I had brought disposable bowls & silverware from home.
Pool (Dig) was enjoyed immensely by the kids. They had no complaints at all with it. We each had an order of nachos one day there - I thought they were fine - her boyfriend thought they were awful. Personal choice I guess.
The comment about cell signal we ran into also. We could sit on the bed by the clock & have a low signal. We could move to the desk & have NO signal. Step out on the balcony & have good signal. Not sure what was blocking it but if we didn't keep phones plugged in while in the room it drained battery severely fighting for signal. (We have USCC & they have a tower agreement with all other carriers so if signal was there we should have had it).
Also had the shampoo issue - we never received anything other than the 1st bottle. We did get one extra set of soaps & one extra hand lotion on day 2, but no more shampoo. DD had brought her own so luckily the one was enough for her boyfriend & myself, but we were squeezing the last of it out on day 5. (We could have stolen some of DD's if we had to). But I would have expected at least one more bottle to be left when ours was 3/4 gone.
The hotel is not really that far 'out of the way' - it's not far from S/D at all, however it just 'feels' way out in the boonies.
DD & her boyfriend liked the hotel, but I have her spoiled. She was nearly in tears when we left Epcot the one night & rode the boat over to S/D. (This was my 'shortcut' because I knew I could NOT walk back to front of Epcot - we hopped the boat, took the DTD bus from Swan & then bussed back to CSR - took less time than it would have taken me to shuffle back to front - BAD blisters that day. And we waited less than 2 min each for boat, bus & bus). She just begged me to go back to S/D on the next trip (we have done 2 at S & 1 at D).
I had to be honest & tell her if I was paying out of pocket, fine, we would go back to S/D. If I had Disney gift cards banked up again, we would be back at a Dis resort.
Would I stay at CSR again? Yes, but......I would definitely pay for a preferred room, as we probably won't be lucky enough to get a fantastic car deal like this time to get WM supplies. The kids are young enough to be able to get to the pool easily & they are not as affected by walking in the heat as I am. Otherwise, I would choose POFQ if available first as we loved the small layout & location there. If budget (and a PIN code allowed it) I would hope at some point to actually try Wilderness Lodge or Poly. (We have done BC & other than great location it just wasn't 'me'). However, I am sure we will be back at SD, POFQ or here. I have a huge mental problem on spending several hundred dollars a night on a bed to sleep in when you are not in it all day, so mods or a S/D discount are a better choice for us. However, no desire to stay at Caribbean.
My overall rating would be a B, with an upgrade to an A- if I had a preferred location.
