Coronado Beach

We'll have a Sunday afternoon while we are in San Diego to spend at a beach. Kids are 4 and 10, and mainly interested in playing in the sand and shallow water (not so much in shops, rides, etc.). After reading about all the beaches in the area, I think we'd like to try going to Coronado beach. My main concern is that I understand parking is limited, and we'll be trying to go on a weekend, and can't get there until the afternoon. I have visions of driving around in circles for hours in a hopeless search for a parking place. Can anyone tell me whether this is realistic - i.e. how bad is the parking situation there likely to be? Are there any suggestions for how to get good parking there? If it turns out Coronado is not doable, then what would a good alternative be (Ocean beach seemed like a good possibility, to me)?

Also, I've heard people talking about there being lots of seaweed in August (when we will be there) - is this true at all beaches in SoCal? Thanks!

We were just there and it is a wonderful beach. We have never had a problem parking in the neighborhood on weekends, but it has always been in the morning. You can park at the Hotel Del, but I think it costs about $25!

Seaweed...hmm there is seaweed at all the beaches in California, all the time. I don't think this will be a problem though...? The water is really cold so I imagine you won't go in pst you calf anyway. It is a great beach to walk and enjoy the view. If you can't find any parking for some reason Silver Strand Beach is right nearby. Pacific Beach is nice too, but not nearby.
