Corona virus and trip insurance

We're holding off booking another trip this year, not because of fears of contamination, but more because we might end up in a lockdown situation in the hotel which is worse than not going at all. Once the trip has commenced I'm not sure we'd be entitled to any refund in this situation. I need to dig out my annual policy documents after reading this thread.

We had already booked a week in Dubai before all this, so I'm hoping once winter is over, things will improve and we can enjoy our trip without any restrictions.

Just to put it in perspective - in the winter of 2017-18 over 26,000 people died of influenza-related illnesses in the UK alone, but only 52 people have contracted coronavirus. Thousands will have died from different strains of seasonal flu during this coronavirus outbreak, but they don't make it onto the news.

With the United states advicing folks not to cruise, Its going to be interesting to see what the cruise lines will be doing.

Is anyone even offering travel for any reason insurance at this point? Asking because I can't see why the insurance companies would do it at this point. I bought mine a while back to get the pre-existing conditions covered, but I keep seeing people who want to add it now and would be (pleasantly) surprised if it's still available at this point.

A TA I know said fees are being waived Until further notice for rescheduling. They got a notification from Disney.

Is DCL expanding the itineraries to be included for waiver? So far, itineraries thru May 31 are covered (later for some Mediterranean itineraries). Mine is in June, so I am hoping it gets expanded to include mine. At this point, I seriously doubt the situation will improve much by the time June rolls around.

Sure. Cancel for any reason includes coverage for many “reasons” besides a pandemic. Many policies specifically exclude coverage if a pandemic is declared (maybe it should be called cancel-for-almost-any-reason). I suspect any policy at this point will exclude pandemic or anything related to coronavirus. There is another thread discussing this.

Thanks. I have CFAR, but I keep seeing people discussing getting it now so I was curious if it was even available. I didn't see the other thread, but I'll go look for it.

Following is a snip of an announcementg from Allianz regarding travel insurance refund. I am insured through Nationwide, but have sent them an e-mail inquiring if they are offering the same accomodation:

Thank you for sharing this. That might be the best deal I can get at this point. They will only pay 75% at most, and I have prepaid a few private tours, but the insurance also was quite expensive.
