Cormac McCarthy...who likes his books?

I'm interested in reading Cormac McCarthy novels...in particular Blood Meridian. What does everyone think of his novels? Are they good reads?

I've only read The Road, and it was the most depressing, plotless book I've ever read.

I loved The Road, but hated All the Pretty Horses. Those are the only ones I have read.

Agreed - it's one of my absolute favorites. I've also read No County for Old Men, The Crossing, and All the Pretty Horses & they're all really great.

OP, if you decide to read Blood Meridian, come back and let us know how it is!

Blood Meridian is highly acclaimed in all the book forums I belong to, yet I simply could not get through it. I also tried Child of God and couldn't finish that one either. I loved The Road, but it is by no means an easy read in terms of content. His prose takes some getting used to.

I read The Road, and I really liked it. It's not "hard" to read, but the style took some getting used to.

I started Blood Meridian, but I just couldn't get through it. I think I could finish it (any maybe enjoy it) if I devoted an entire weekend to reading it. I usually read on my lunch break at work and right before bed, and those 20 to 30 minute burst of reading don't seem to work for Blood Meridian.

Thanks everyone! I've heard The Road is good but also did read that it's plotless. Not sure if that is something I want to read right now.

I want to branch out and read new authors so I'm just trying to figure out some good ones!
