Corelle Ware

Interesting. I knew it was made of glass but never understood why it was break resisitant.

Corelle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Corelle is a brand of glassware and dishware. It is made of Vitrelle, a laminated tempered glass product with three layers of two types of glass. The thermally bonded layers give Corelle its strength, allowing it to be much thinner than other dinnerware. Introduced by Corning Glass Works in 1970, it is now sold by World Kitchen. Corelle is chemical resistant, durable, and lightweight: A typical Corelle dinner plate measuring 26 centimeters across weighs 355 grams.

Safety

Since it is glass, sudden temperature changes can cause it to break. If a Corelle item becomes damaged it must be discarded immediately or it may shatter without warning at a later time.

I love my Corelle. Have my grandmother's china in my china cabinet but it never gets used. Would never dream of buying china for myself.....such a waste.

Now for holidays we use the good china.......Chinet that is.:lmao: We finally decided we spend all this time cooking and then you have all these dishes.....so we cut down on the amount of dishes. That way we have so much more time just to enjoy being with family/friends, etc. Life is to short to spend it doing dishes!!!!!!

I had Corelle when I first got married in 1992.
I had to look it up-it's discontinued. http://www.replacements.com/webquote/CORFOY.htm
It's all boxed up in my beasement.

I bought Summer Breeze by Pfaltzgraff around 2001 or 2002, I loved it, waited for a year before I bought it to make sure that I really really really liked it.
Now..not so much. I like the salad/dessert plates and the pasta bowls and the giant platter but the rest, eh.

I have Mikasa Floradora: http://www.replacements.com/webquote/MIKFLORA.htm
for my china. I never use it. It's packed away.

I inherited my moms china when she died, I don;t even know what it is. I never use that either.

I bought some plain green and orange and yellow stoneware(not on one piece, they are all solid colors) from Kohls and I use that in the fall because my summery yellow and blue Pfaltzgraff looks not right in the fall with my fall tablecloths. I use that mid September-Thanksgiving.
I actually really like them.

I have a generic Christmas set too, but only 4 place settings, I use that from Thanksgiving-Christmas. It's cute but I REALLY want the Pfaltzgraff WinterBerry set for that time of year.

Love it! :lmao: I feel the same way. (And I've suggested the same to my family as well.)
