Which would you choose between the two? Assuming they are both available, of course. The menu at San Angel appeals to me more but I would love to watch the fish at Coral Reef....It is just two kids (ds-9, dd-5), hubby, and me. I am planning character meals (if I can get them) for the kids mostly. This one is my choice. Hubby picked SciFi. Thoughts?

Ride Nemo to see the fish, then go to Mexico to eat at a restaurant that appeals to your tastes. :goodvibes

I personally think Coral Reef is overated (and I've done DiveQuest, so I actually got to look IN to the restaurant from the fish side :lmao:)

The atmosphere at San Angel is great.

Coral Reef.
San Angel has very bad reviews. I think if you want Mexican, Taco Bell would be a better choice!

Coral Reef!

We had a fantastic meal there last weekend. DH and I both had the pan-seared grouper and it was delicious (and I am a grouper snob).

Totally disagree with this.

San Angel is more traditional mexican not Tex Mex and it does get some bad reviews here, but we love it. If the menu appeals to you go, it is the best atmosphere in WDW.
You will find good and bad about every restaurant at WDW, but personally no one can say what you will like or dislike.
If it sounds good go, try it yourself.

I have always wanted to eat at Coral Reef and have yet to get there, but we really enjoy SAI, so much I am eating there again next time.....it was great.

My favorite dish in all of WDW is the blackened catfish at Coral Reef, so I say give Coral Reef a try! They also have an excellent kid's menu.

Never tried SAN Angel.

We've never eaten at San Angel Inn, but we're booking our 2nd ADR at coral reef for our upcoming trip. Besides Crystal palace, it's the only restaurant we're reapeating on our next trip!

We do absolutely enjoy, and have been to, both restaurants.

San Angel is NOT, as has been pointed out, typical Tex-Mex that most Americans are familiar with -- I have been to Mexico and I do feel that the food is more traditionally Mexican (although no flames, please -- I'm not saying it is totally authentic or AS good as being in Mexico). We love the setting in this restaurant, and it's great having the attraction right there so that if your kids are restless by the end of the meal, one parent can sit to pay the bill and the other can take the kids on the ride.

Coral Reef is also lovely. We eat there every trip -- here is our most recent review from August: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=34073532&postcount=39

I say go with the menu that most appeals to YOU. And while it is always helpful to solicit feedback (that's what these boards are all about!), do take into account direct vs. indirect experiences and ultimately make a choice that feels right to you -- everyone's experience is a little different.

I have never eaten at Coral Reef but have eaten at San Angel 3 times...the first two were so not good. Our last trip, though (just got back a week ago), DS6 really wanted to eat there again (and we had heard they made improvements so gave it a change) and it was sooo much better. The chips used to taste like stale, store bought Tostados and are now fresh and crispy, like you would expect at a Mexican restaurant. The food used to be bland and stale tasting, but this time both my mom and I really enjoyed our dishes and everything was very fresh. So, I'm sorry I can't really help you with your choice, but I just wanted to let you and everyone else know I thought the food at San Angel had really improved! It was one of our best meals this trip.

We like restaurants in Disney that are fun -- characters, music, dancing, fun decor, etc... so What's Fun About San Angel Inn? I heard that there is music - is it live performers? Do they come around the tables? Are the servers/waiters fun and/or in costume?

Our debate now is San Angel Inn vs. Le Cellier for lunch. I know... everyone will say Le Cellier because the steaks are so great! But we will have great steak at some of our other restaurants. Le Cellier looks a little boring for DS5 and I worry about having to wait a long time past our ADR because it is so popular. We do love good food though...

We are already picked Coral Reef because of looking at the fish while eating, and Biergarten for the German music/dancing. We enjoyed the belly dancing at Marrakesh last October. And been to Teppan Edo before and we have Japanese steak houses like that everywhere at home.

We like San Angel okay, but felt like the food at Coral reef was much better! It is usually our favorite meal!:rotfl:

We have had a couple "meh" meals at San Angel. Probably won't return at this point.

We've had really good luck at Coral Reef - good service, good food, and beautiful restaurant. It's an extremely noisy place, but all 4 of us have enjoyed our meals here. My favorite is the Mahi-Mahi (which is also offered on the kid's menu - DS loves it!). I thought their kid's menu was really great - Lobster Bisque soup or a salad for appetizers, several nice adult-style meals for an entree and the typical kid's dessert. Overall, a favorite.

Having eaten only at Coral Reef I'd say San Angel....until I looked at the menu and then I'd say skip 'em both.

Although I have never been to San Angel I would reccomend Coral Reef. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is amazing. I think everyone in your party will enjoy coral reef.
