I have reservations for Coral Reef for our upcoming trip in January but I've seen some bad reviews recently. Should we change to Cape May? Which do you prefer and why?

We went to Coral Reef and loved it. We are going to Cape May this trip. I cant wait for the crab legs

Coral Reef...hands down! Better food, better atmosphere. Cape May is one of my rare "not again" spots.

While we've never been to Coral Reef, we did eat at Cape May on 8/26 for dinner. Though not our favorite buffet in the World, it was good. Nice selection of seafood and american foods. Crab legs were abundant though not very large. Fried Shrimp was very good as well as the Beef Stew dish. We would return here, though it wouldn't be our first choice of buffets.

*I have been to both... Coral reef was VERY pricey for dinner and the food was just okay. Cape May was a huge disapointment... there was not a crab leg to be found and the service was horrible. The waitress got very indignant when my hubbie refused to pay the 18% gratuity ( we were on the dining plan w/ a party of more than 6) and had to take it up with the manager, who also said he HAD to pay it. Needless to say we did not and will not be returning there anytime soon.. :upsidedow

We have stayed at the Beach Club Villas the last several trips (7) that we have taken to WDW. I do not mean to be negative but, I can barely smell anything...and the smell from the Cape May Cafe is almost enough to send me over the edge. I almost get sick EVERY time I go past that place. We have all started laughing about it. I will say that it does not smell good...and I can't smell.

We have never done Coral Reef and Cape May only for breakfast. We will be doing both for dinner on this trip...(15 days till we leave!!) I have heard really good and bad things about both. I really do not think you can take everyone's opinion to heart. People have different tastes and different expectations. I live by the try it and see method...if I don't like it I won't do it again. Many people love the California grill and fancier places...I wouldn't set foot in those place....that food looks and sound disgusting to me. Just my opinion but the next person will tell you they have the bet food around. Good luck deciding...sorry if this post doesnt' help you much!! :confused3

We ate at the Coral Reef last trip and I can confirm that it was VERY pricey and for me it just wasn't worth it. But I don't eat shrimp or crab so most of the menu was erased....if you ARE into shrimp and/or crab then this is YOUR restaurant.

I find it funny that the only thing anybody ever says about cape may is "crab legs"

that's a hell of alot of money to pay for crab legs (and as others have said...these aren't record setting king crabs here) when they can go to any red lobster and get them cheaper.

coral reef would be my choice...and it has nothing to do with the fact it was directly below our wedding reception (maybe a little)

i have always thought coral reef was highly underated and it provides the best "show" of any restaurant at WDW

and...by the way...i had the best crab legs of my life there...and they split them lenghtwise so you didn't even have to work for 'em

Cape May is fine...don't get me wrong...i really love the breakfast...but i would pick coral reef for dinner

see...when i just looked up the menu i see sea scallops, lobster soup, mahi mahi, and seared ahi tuna...

so there is a little more "meat" to the place

I guess I should have just said shellfish since it is a more inclusive term but the previous post mentioned crab and shrimp so just mentioned those. I got the salmon and it was VERY good....I would have gotten the trout but we're going to Gatlinburg in a couple weeks and I'd rather wait and get it up there.

We normally stay at BCV and dine at Cape May often. We're always on the DDP and have eaten at Coral Reef (OCT 08) and were very pleased. The atmosphere is excellent and the "show," as mentioned above, is spectacular.

However if you're looking for best bang for the buck between the two then Cape May is a good choice.

We have been to both and loved both of them. In fact, we are going back to both this trip.
We have been to Coral Reef twice and it was great both times. In fact, it is my husband's favorite restaurant in WDW. It is a must do for him everytime. The atmosphere is great, and his steak is always perfect. If you like steak, you can't lose. And, as far as I know, there isn't any shellfish on the menu, just fish, chicken, pork and steak.
We went to Cape May for the first time last year. I loved it, my husband liked it. (he wasn't that hungry so didn't eat much) I liked how there was a good balance of seafood and regular food. I loved the crab legs, but there was lots more to choose from.
