Coral Reef - extreme reviews

We enjoy Coral Reef and usually go every trip. We were disappointed in March that they stopped serving a vegetable with the meal. Only entrée and starch. Unless they change the menu again we likely will not eat there as much. We enjoy veggies with our meals and felt a bit 'cheated' by higher price and less food.

I don't know if it's ONLY capable but as a single working mom who works her butt off to afford Disney vacations traveling solo with her autistic son, I like to do what I can to stack the odds in my favor.

Do what you want, I don't care. But dining at peak times in ANY super crowded vacation destination (and I happen to live in one) is something I avoid unless I am ok with being flexible about timing and patient with a server in the weeds. Restaurants that are amazing out of season here go to crap during peak times in peak seasons. It doesn't mean it's a terrible restaurant, I just go when I know I am going to get the food and service that I want.

I don't care what you do but for anyone looking to up their odds on a good experience at a popular and crowded location, going at opening time is a good tip. Mock all you want and I'll enjoy my vacation.

The DIS is a place for tips and I thought I'd share what works out really well for me in case it helps someone else. You want to try a place that traditionally gets backed up at peak times? try going when they open. It's lovely. If it doesn't work for you, the polite thing to do is move on rather than imply someone is an idiot for doing what they do.

:offtopic: If you're an idiot so am I :p. I've got no time to wait 2 hours for Piglet to get to our table, but ASD kid needs to see him, so we will eat lunch at 10:45 and not 1 pm like last time.

OP, we will be trying Coral Reef for the first time this trip. Fingers crossed for both of us :)

My family and I like it there. I get the mahi mahi and it's always delicious. Plus having the view of the tank is so cool. Only gripe with it is the carpeting-it makes the restaurant smell funny. That smell can grow to be a little unappetizing.

We only went once, but we liked it well enough. I do bemoan receiving less vegetables or just side options in general.

And both when we were on our own, and with our kids, we agree that eating earlier than most works so well for us. Less crowds, less wait time, more attention, and when many other people are eating at about the same general time, we then get to enjoy the parks with a bit less crowds as well. It's completely win-win for us. :)
