This just came to me. Could they ever open a Coperfields at DTD? I know it folded when it was at MGM, but I would want to go eat there, and I think most people would.

As much as I would have loved eating at this restaurant, there's about as much chance of that happening as WDW getting a Tokyo DisneySea. I'm afraid Copperfield's failed concept is DOA.

For an October 1998 Ford Management Services article about David Copperfield's magic-theme restaurants in New York (Times Square) and Walt Disney World (Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park), see http://www.fordmgtsvc.com/whatsnew10-98.htm#d

At the time of the article, there were already serious problems, but there was still a chance that of the problems could be overcome. Instead, the project became a complete failure.

The Walt Disney Company was an investor in Late Nite Magic, the company that tried to develop the restaurants.

It's only a store, and it's not (as far as I know) connected to David Copperfield, but Magic Masters just opened at DtDWstsd, and it's pretty cool. The sales staff demostrates magic tricks, and there's even an illusion performed several times a day with a guest.

For clarification:
Cooperfields is a restaraunt, there was one in N.Y.C. , The reason they never opened the one at MGM was because before they started construction, the company folded. It was to be the same type of deal as the rainforest cafe ( as far as contracts with disney, bussiness deals etc.)

Just to clarify disneydude's comment, the location in New York City never actually opened. It was about 80% done structurally at the time that the compnay decided to file for bankruptcy.

David Copperfield's magic-themed restaurant in New York was a few weeks from opening when the company pulled the plug. More money had already been invested per foot than in any restaurant in New York City, and it was determined that the restaurant could NEVER recoup its investment. Rather than throw good money after bad, they called it quits.
David Copperfield's relationship with the Walt Disney Company remains very good. He loves to go to the parks and is treated very well when he does.
It is unlikely that a Copperfield restaurant will ever be built like the ones that were planned, though something else might morph out of the project.
The new Magic Masters shop in Downtown Disney Westside is owned by Ken Fletcher and Rich Bloch. It is not a regular magic shop, and relies more on the "show" aspects to entertain potential customers.
