I found directions online for taking a bus and then train to the central train station in Copenhagen from the cruise port, but I'm looking for first-hand accounts. Has anyone taken the bus and then the train in Copenhagen from the port? Our hotel is about two blocks from the central train station (very close to Tivoli) so it seems like the most economical way to get there.

There is no immediate access to a train from the Copenhagen port area. You would need to take a short taxi ride to the nearest train station.

In the Top right of the screenshot, you can see the Cruise terminals. When we sailed this Past August 2022, We were at Oceankaj 3. The area around the port is mostly industrial districts and does not have sidewalks/walkable areas.

In the bottom left corner is the closest Metro station. You would need to take a short taxi ride to get there. Other than that, you would be good using the local Metro to get back to the Airport from Copenhagen Central station.

Enjoy your Sailing!

Hmm. If I'm going to take a taxi, I might as well just take one all the way. This is why I'm looking for someone who has done this. The official Copenhagen website doesn't mention having to use a taxi: https://www.visitcopenhagen.com/copenhagen/planning/transportation-cruise-terminals

It mentions the bus, however. So we'd have to take a taxi to catch the bus they mention in the article, then the bus to the train and the train to the station? That seems overly cumbersome.

Hi There @anricat,

First hand account here for you: On August 10, 2022, my DW and I, disembarked the Disney Magic at Ocean Quay Cruise Terminal in Copenhagen at around 9:00am (leisurely disembarkation after a nice breakfast). We were the ONLY passengers to walk across the street to the public sidewalk. Everyone else was waiting for taxis and other arranged transportation. We walked across the street to the sidewalk and turned left to walk up to the corner of oceankaj and ocenavej (not more than 100-200 yards up from where we disembarked). There is supposed to be a Visitor Information Center here where we could buy a Copenhagen card with unlimited public Train, Metro and Bus transportation. Unfortunately for us, the information center was closed on that day. The official information center, which, by the way, did not look like an information center, was next to a private gift shop vendor. Anyway, I ended up using my phone to buy the Copenhagen cards with unlimited transportation online and opted to use digital ticketing instead of paper tickets (now I had to just make sure that my phone was always charged). The bus stop is right around the corner and up the street maybe 50 yards from the Information Center. We waited at the bus stop (maybe 5-10 minute wait). As soon as I saw the bus, I activated our copenhagen cards. We took Bus 25 to Osterport St and then walked over to the train station and took the S train to Kobenhaven Station. I waited to activate our cards to ensure that the cards would still be active Saturday morning when we needed to take the train to the airport. Our hotel was also next to Tivoli Gardens. We stayed at the Absalon Hotel. The Copenhagen Train, Metro and Bus system is extremely friendly and easy to use, especially if you have the unlimited transportation pass. WARNING: Bus routes and Train routes change all the time so please use the website below to plan your journey. The bus number you take will be dependent on the day and time you are at the bus stop. And you can take the bus to both the metro and the train station. We took the route that would get us to the hotel the fastest that morning and that happened to be the train instead of the metro, but depending on the timing the Metro can be quicker. This website will show you all of these options: https://www.rejseplanen.dk/webapp/?language=en_EN#!P|TP!histId|0!histKey|H463708
We used this website every step of the way and it made our 4 days of using public transportation in Copenhagen a breeze. (be sure to bring a portable battery to ensure that your smartphone does not run out of juice). Please feel free to ask any more specific questions if you have any. We really enjoyed our stay in Copenhagen and we hope you have a wonderful trip!

This is perfect. Thank you so much! We plan to purchase the Copenhagen Card as well. We'll get the 72 hour one which will be just perfect to get us to the airport our final morning. I will bookmark that page. Thanks!

We are staying right across the street at the Andersen Boutique Hotel. It looks like a good central location from which to start all our sightseeing. Not sure what I'm more excited about, the cruise or our stay in Copenhagen. It looks like a wonderful city!

The Andersen Boutique Hotel is great. Location is amazing, a lot of the main sights in Copenhagen are walkable from here. The included breakfast is great, and the courtyard was one of my favorite places to spend a few minutes everyday. The elevators though.... well it's that old world charm I guess. (Also the luggage storage room situation is something that can only be seen to be believed. Get there early and good luck).

We took a taxi ( I don't recommend this, we had to wait 2 hours for one) and those free yellow shuttles were overfilled and running about once every 30 minutes. If I was going to do it again, I'd plan to use a car service. If you only have a few days in Copenhagen it's worth a spending splurge to not waste time getting to your hotel.

I took the bus in 2017 when I sailed NCL from Copenhagen. It was VERY easy however I will say that the bus got very full with luggage the further on the trip to the ship it was. So try and board at an early stop.

We will only be taking the bus/train from the ship, not to the ship so that won't be an issue.

We're cruised DCL 3 times out of Copenhagen and have spent a few days both before and after our cruises in the city. We used train/bus transportation with 72 hr. city cards for each trip to get around the city and to the port for embarkation and disembarkation (Take a gander at my two trip reports listed below for lots of information on where we've stayed and what we did while in the city).

The above description by UVAWhoo of not utilizing a taxi and just walking across the street upon disembarkation is totally the way to go. Once you reach the gift shop, however, machines are located outside sort of around the right-hand corner of the shop where you can purchase paper city cards with a credit card -- thus, eliminating the need to worry about having your phone charged. We've always had an almost empty bus come to the stop just up and around the corner from the gift shop within about 10 minutes. And if you're unsure of the bus number to take, just ask the driver if it's the bus to take to the train station. The correct bus will take you to the nearby train station where you can then catch a train to the Central Station (but that involves lots of concrete steps to get to the right track or you can just stay on the bus until it stops at the Central Train Station. From there it's usually a walk to most hotels or just another short train ride.

We prefer to stay at the Crowne Plaza because it's not only a beautiful hotel, but it's located right next to the huge Field's Shopping Mall. Also, the tracks for both the train and city's tram are located right across the street. The Crowne Plaza also provides a shuttle to the airport.
