Howdy,

We're planning to return to WDW in December during the Holiday theme and want to take some cute family photos for our christmas cards. I was thinking about coordinating our outfits - but I need some ideas. Anyone coordinate outfits among family members?

Thanks for any help!

We just did a family photo shoot on our big family vacation with 15 people. The only requirement was for everyone to be wearing either yellow, white or navy. No one matched exactly and everyone wore different variations of that (ie. blue shirt, white skirt or white shirt with blue shorts and a yellow scarf, etc). It turned out really nice and we even got compliments from the photographer!

We bought the WDW Christmas sweat shirts one year and wore those for our Christmas picture in front of the Castle. Turned out pretty good. Remember unless you dress just for the picture, temps can vary a LOT in January so think about something that you will be ok with a variety of temps or can add a jacket too.

I like jean and some type of white shirt for most any informal picture and the decorations give you the colors with out clashing with different shades you all might wear.

I always order shirts on www.etsy.com Most vendors can customize and personalize whatever you are looking for. I order shirts for my son for trips, holidays, birthdays, etc.

We used our Santa family pic from Downtown Disney. We'd bought photopass and then I took the Santa picture to Walgreens where I had them made into photocards. Cheapest Christmas cards I think we've ever made. We were all in red or green and wearing Mickey Mouse Santa hats. We also had a great photopass pic viewing Osborne Lights. The boys had on the Disney C-Mas sweaters with Goofy and Mickey, girls had Santa tutu dresses or Disney sweaters. I also love the matching shirts on etsy. Many of my favorite pics of us are not always the same shirt as much as coordinating colors.

I agree with the monochromatic suggestion.
I don't recommend using white predominately, because it washes most people out, is oftentimes see through, and is not at all visually interesting in photos.

Some combination of black, white, and/or gray would look nice. Blue is normally a solid color for people.

One recommendation I read on a website is to pick a multicolored pattern for one person (the smallest person usually stands out the least) then pull colors out of it for others to wear. So a black, grey, and red sweater for the youngest, and have everyone else wearing one of those colors.

We make sure to have complimentary colors. So blues and purples. Or pinks and green. Things like that. For Christmas it is often black and red in various hues (I might wear burgundy and DD is in a festive Christmas red).

I prefer looks that are coordinated without being matchy-matchy, so we go with complementary darker colors -- no pastels or white. For our family portraits at the Poly, I wore a navy dress, DH wore khaki shorts and a navy polo, and DS wore navy shorts and a teal polo.
