Cooler climates. When do you turn your heat on?

Today it’s 86 here & it’s a cool front! And welcomed!

Supposed to be 93 here on Friday. Heat wave from today's forecast high of 79. We usually have at least one 100 degree day in October. Not sure that is going to happen.

I'm in Sacramento and ours goes on when it's 78 degrees, but when the sun goes down it usually gets a little breezy so we turn it off and use ceiling fans and open the windows. When I have any smud heat pump rebate, I can always contact https://alphamechanicals.com/specials/ . Nice service

I'm in the midwest. I'm still holding out. Our temps have been in the 30's at night and the 60's during the day. Our house is at 65 when we get up, but warms up to about 70 by the afternoon if it is sunny. I will probably break down and turn it on tomorrow though because it is going to be cloudy and rainy so our house probably won't warm up.

We're currently in Western NC. We've been running the heat for three days. When the inside temp goes below 70, during the day, it's time to turn the heat on. We prefer 72, during the day & 69 at night.

DW is part lizard. If it's below 72 in the house, the heat comes on.

I turned it to heat Monday when it got down to 64 in the house, and the furnace has run for the last couple of nights.

We caved on Monday evening. The house was down to 62 and I work at home, and my fingers were like ice. I hated to do it, but working was much more pleasant the next day.

DH gets pretty wimpy when it comes around to 40-50 degrees. Me? I try to hold out as long as I can so I'm counting on late Nov - early Dec. If he turns it up, I just go and turn it off again. It becomes a battle of wills every year. I hate having the heat on and a small part of the reason is it will bother my sinuses. Even in the winter will have a window open.

That's my main issue with turning on the heat for the first time during the colder season. No matter what, I get sick.for a day or two once the heat goes on. (yup we do all the usual maintenance and cleaning prior to turning it on)

I believe my heat kicked on for the first time this morning. It may have at some point in the last couple days and I didn't notice. It's been a little more chilly here this week. It's set to heat to 64, so if it drops below that, it'll come on automatically.
