Hi everyone! We will be staying in a grand villa at SSR and also a grand villa at OKW resort in October. We would like to cook a few meals in our room during our stay at SSR. We are getting the dining plan for our stay at OKW due to that resort being our last few days and we won't feel like cooking the entire trip.

Can anyone share any idea's for quick meals? I am shopping for all non-perishable items from home and sending them as checked luggage on the plane with us. Then I am getting the perishable items from either SSR grocery order or maybe garden grocer and have it delivered to the hotel.

My family likes lots of different meals, however, my daughter's age 14 and 20 tend to like simple things like spaghetti, chicken "kid friendly" type meals.

Also has anyone ever brought a crock pot with them in their luggage? Did you use it? what kind of food did you make in it?

Thanks for any and all info ! Can't wait to "go home" for the first time :)

No, I've never brought a crock pot. I do go to Publix though and purchase ready made dinners (not frozen) from the meat case and other cold foods. They have a wide selection of things like prepared roasts (just cook them) ribs (BBQ) chicken rollups (Kiev, cordon bleu, ect.) and a good selection of sides ranging from pototo salad, mashed potatoes, macaroni salad, several types of coleslaw, and beans among others.

Nothing to prepare, just heat (or roast) and serve.

Can't ship them ahead to be sure, but it makes life really easy. They even have prepared pancakes and pot pies. Quiches too.

Then there is the deli case and the rotisserie chicken and the mac n' cheese, and the hot veggies...

Oh, and a HUGE selection of delicious things for dessert!

At any rate, that's what I do.

The majority of our cooked meals are for breakfast. But we do some dinners too. Our meals range from steaks cooked under the broiler, burgers and sometimes tacos, baked potatoes cooked in the microwave and some mac n cheese for the kids. I've never tried gardengrocer or any other delivery service. We always have a car, so we take a trip to Winn-Dixie to get our supplies. I've never brought a crockpot, I don't use it too often at home so I don't think that we would use it during vacation. I think many have posted that they have brought one and it worked great.

We had 'egg mcmuffins' every morning last Dec at the VWL...eggs microwaved, english muffins toasted, cheese slice, and ham. Pretty good meal with paper bowls and plastic utensils!!

We recently had a 2 bedroom at SSR. I love to cook even on vacation, so it was not a problem. Two of the mornings everyone got breakfast to made order! We had pasta one night.

We drove down so we did our own shopping. I did take garlic powder, cinnamon, oregano and basil separately. Crock pot sounds like an excellent idea! Planning a grand villa for sometime next November. Might be a nifty thing for 12 of us.

Enjoy your trip.

We normally just do breakfasts in our DVC units with a kitchen. Sometimes eggs and bacon, but usually just muffins, bagels, etc. We also always have PB&J makings since my DD is a pickey carboholic vegetarian and doesn't eat many kids meals in the parks. We do cook a dinner once or twice per trip. Our favorite is grilled steaks with bakers and veggies. There is a grill at every DVC quiet pool, but you need to bring your own charcoal. Pasta is also quick and easy and the fixings are available at the DVC general store in a pinch. We also have also cooked frozen pizzas more than once. Like Domiii, I bring down some select spices so I don't have to buy them in Orlando. You may want to create a menu in advance so you know what to bring with you.

Our favorite meal to cook at DVC is breakfast. We usually have scrambled eggs, Eggo waffles, and a microwavable breakfast meat (bacon, or sausage). It's a quick, easy, cheap and most of all tasty way to start a magical day.

Eggo waffles with frozen strawberries & cool whip along with good coffee on the balcony. That's Vacation!
