Settling in to the new house, we noticed last night that our gas range also has a convection oven. We can use it with or without the fan. What are some of your experiences with this? I've always been led to believe that a convection oven is a good thing.

When the convection oven is on the fan is always on....that is what circulates the heat so that the top and bottom element is not on. There for you can use all the racks with out burning anything.

Convection ovens run 25 degrees lower when on. So if your receipe calles for 350 it will go to 325.

I love it when I make rising pizza in the oven but I find you have to leave it in longer. Sometimes I over ride the 25 degrees but if you do that be careful it will burn if you don't watch it. Good for things that usually burn on the bottom while waiting for the top to cook. Like Pillsbury cresents....:lmao:

In my opinion it takes a bit longer to cook cookies too. I usually put my cookies in for 8 minutes now it is more like 10 but I can put three trays in at once so that is a big bonus. :thumbsup2

Forgot ....the fan will run a long time after you turn the oven off. It is like the blower on a fire place...

I have one but don't know much about how to use it other than when a package gives temp/time instructions for it. And not enough packages give those instructions.

I do know that if I set it at 350 degrees (temp given for normal oven), then the convection oven re-adjusts to 325 degrees. What I don't know is how long to cook things for then.

Foods come out very nice though when I use it. Pies & poultry look like magazine pictures all nicely & perfectly even. :goodvibes

I have one too....but have never used it :(
Interested to hear. It is in our new house in AZ and we aren't there yet. DD lives there and she hasn't experimented with it.

I always use my convection setting. I find that the baking time is usually about the same but my baked goods are really pretty. I also have a convection roast on mine and the temperature does not adjust. My roasts cook faster on this setting but again they brown beautifully and are cooked evenly.
