Hi All,

There was a thread several months back with some great ideas about cooking meals in a studio. We're off to HH next month and can only manage a studio this time around (saving our points for a giant anniversary stay next year). We've never stayed in a studio and wanted to review that thread for some ideas.

Any links would be greatly appreciated.

A must - take your slow cooker/ crock pot. I always do a brisket of beef, sometimes called a Texas Brisket while we are there. Put it on low before you go to the beach in the morning, if you're back at lunch add potatoes and veggies - pot roast style or add Bar-B-Q sauce 10 minutes before dinner, serve with potatoe salad or mash potatoes (frozen type - done in 5 minutes), apple sauce and a green salad. Very little work, great meal.

Frozen stuffed jumbo pasta shells w/ meat or cheese can be put in the slow cooker with sauce on low at lunch time by dinner they are hot and tender.

I bring several pre cooked, frozen meals that I can layer inside my slower cooker and warm up while we are out.

Hope this helps.

Have a great time.

Sandy B.

We've only done prepared foods in the studio. Mostly bagels or cereal for breakfast, sandwich stuff for lunches and frozen or canned stuff for supper. Of course we don't eat all of our meals in the room when we're in a studio. Actually, now that I think of it I don't cook much more than that with the full kitchen - maybe some pasta or something.

I tend to go for quicker, microwave meals when I'm in a Studio. Although, some people have mentioned bringing George Forman grills, electric skillets and such. The last thing I want to carry is my kitchen gear.

I have a great microwave steamer (Tupperware) that's light and easy to carry. Nice for veggies. Then I bring several sizes of Tupperware type containers to both cook, warm and store in. You could even get some of those new Ziploc containers just for this. If you buy a cooked chicken and then prep veggies or rice in the containers, for example, you can have a nice meal.

When I was at HH last May I did very little cooking. The restaurants there are wonderful. I did have leftovers to heat though and the containers came in handy.

Thanks for the great ideas - the containers are something I would never have thought of. And the crockpot will come in handy as well. We're only looking at cooking in 2 or 3 days, but with a 3 and 6 year old, I just don't want to go out every night.

Hi-- we're new and have only stayed in a studio. This is what we did-- we brought our toaster oven and cooked up mozzarella sticks, pizza calzones, egg rolls-- all the stuff you can buy at Sam's Club and places like that. (And all the stuff that not great for you, but let's not go there ;) ...)We drove down, and kept all that on ice in the cooler. The toughest part was not the cooking, but the freezer-- it's pretty small in that studio fridge, and we had to cram things in. Have fun!
