I understand individual campfires aren't allowed, but I was wondering about campfire cooking.

I'll have to forego the dutch oven since I can't have a fire, but I was planning on bringing my propane campstove and making coffee in the morning, plus breakfast food.

I've looked in several places, and can't seem to find this talked about.

Anyone know for sure?

Well each campsite has a charcoal grill to cook on and we have used both our propane grill to go and our propane stove with no problems. :thumbsup2

38 Days, 17 Hours, and 41 Minutes til we're back at Fort Wilderness and Star Wars weekend!! :woohoo:

Thanks! I may toss in the grill too. I'm going when school gets out over here (25-28th of May). This is my No-Plans trip. I haven't booked any ADRs, and I only have vague ideas of seeing Illuminations and Fantasmic. I ran the kids pretty ragged on our Spring Break trip, so this is just relaxation.

Having the grill might encourage me to actually eat dinner at the campsite. I'll have to run it by the kids and see what they think.

We use our propane stove and crock pot..I like the crock pot best because I have have my meal ready after a long day in the parks!

You can still use the dutch oven. The grill's are charcoal and I'm pretty sure the grate comes off. It's just no wood fires. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

The grate slides up and flips over the top out of the way. We have used our dutch oven, in the grill, with charcoal with good results.

Hmmm. Maybe I will take the Dutch Oven. I really like cooking in it much better than on the grill. It makes everything so moist! Plus I can put the veggies in with the meat and only have one thing to clean up. Downside is that it takes so long.

I think I'm going to pull out all my camping stuff this weekend and decide what to take. We're going the 25-27th of May (when school gets out here in FL), so I'd better get cracking, huh??

We use our crockpot a lot too! I pre-make everything (chicken, chili, roast beef, etc) and put it in large freezer baggies in the cooler/fridge. Then, in the morning I just dump one of them in the crockpot and when we get back from the parks, it's done!! :thumbsup2

Okay, with the crock pot, do you just leave it on the table while you're gone? We're tent camping, so there is no kitchen. And I don't have a dining fly. I think I'd be afraid that one of those pop up rainstorms would come and that would be a mess!

I remember reading this board a while back and someone mentioned using a milk crate bungee corded to the table to cover up the crock pot. Anyone actually tried that?

I dont know that I would try the crock pot idea while tenting. Sounds like too many ways for things to go wrong.

We leave our crockpot out on the picnic table (we're tenters). We've never had a problem in 18 years of doing it! :thumbsup2

But, we do have a screen tent that we set up over the table area. It keeps out the rain and flying bugs. We keep our coolers in there, as well as our fridge, electric frying pan, and cookstove.

What about cooking over a fire? Can you do that at the sing-along? I know you can roast marshmellows, but can you make actual dinners there--like hot dogs?

we cook with our crock pot and the little gas grill that we keep in the mongo camping bin.

we generally keep the crock pot either in the camper while cooking or on the picnic table outside (under the awning). when it is outside we have never had a problem with critters getting into it, but i love the idea of the milk crate bungied to the table thing.

Yes, you can roast a hot dog over the fire too! :)

Could you maybe borrow a dining fly/screen tent? I'm thinking that the bugs might be nasty in June...

agnes!
