Conversely, name a restaurant that gets too MUCH love

I'm glad that we weren't the only ones. This is the only Disney restaurant where I can say I have ever felt "pressured" to order alcohol. I don't drink alcohol and DH rarely does. I have nothing against it. I don't care if other people do. I just haven't found any that I like the taste of. Especially after traipsing around a hot theme park...sorry, I just didn't want any alcohol.

We were seated and the waitress got kinda miffed about us not ordering alcohol. She actually said, "Aw, c'mon...the kids won't mind. You're over 21 you really can have an ADULT beverage." She said it really snarky. Well, we waited for our cokes for over 20 mins.....she comes breezing by and DH says something to her and she says, "Oh yeah...the table with nothing but cokes...I forgot all about you." Well, when she walked off, we got up and walked out. We hadn't ordered anything yet, so we just left.

We did lodge a complaint against her. I kinda felt petty for doing it, but she really made us feel like there was something wrong with us.

YIKES!! :faint: That is about the worst guest service story I have ever heard!! I am glad that you lodged a complaint and you shouldn't have felt the least bit petty doing so! I think the manager should have given you a different server and comp'd your meal!

I am so sad to hear that this restaurant is on the down slide. We ate there EVERY trip until 2004 -- (that would be all the trips BC -- before children) and it was always the highlight meal, along with California Grill. Loved the food, loved the dessert, loved the service and never once ordered an alcoholic beverage.

We were looking forward to returning when the kids were a bit older, but maybe not. :sad2:

I will agree somewhat with Le Cellier as overhyped. The food and service were decent, but not fantastic. The biggest problem was how crowded it was in there. I felt packed in like a sardine.

The other place I think is overrated is CRT. The castle was cool and we had a great table, but we waited in line for 20 minutes to get a picture with Cindy which was rushed. Then, the meal felt very rushed (we didn't even get a chance to ask for more food if we had wanted it), and the interaction with the princesses was rushed as well. For 2 TS credits, it was not worth it. I doubt we go back there unless my younger daughter insists on it when she gets older.

For us it is Yachtsman Steakhouse. We just didn't enjoy the food, and we have tried 3 times.
Le Cellier, just because of all the hype. We don't even go anymore

I would have to say Chef Mickey's and LTT. We ate a Chef Mickey's, once, and never went back, the food in our opinion wasn't even average. But LTT, I really don't get- a frozen dinner on vacation :confused3

Hmmm..I definitely agree with Coral Reef. Worst experience ever there. The CMs at the front desk were awful..completely blah about working there in general. The host that brought us to our table had no clue about anything. He was asked a question, told me he'd check and never returned. Our waitress was the absolute worst. She was slow, pushy and absent most of the time. It was horrifically loud in there, the food was just 'eh' to me...dessert being the best part. The CMs had a bad habit of kneeling at tables to hear better, causing all sorts of obstacles to manuever around..and carrying a baby and stepping over someone's legs in the dark is alot harder than you'd think. I did complain, and the manager was really upset we had a bad time. But I'd never go back. It just wasn't worth it.

Chef Mickey's...again....food was just ok, the characters made it fun, but we'd already seen all of the characters, so it wasn't as exciting for the kids. The staff at the desk were very blah, just like at Coral Reef.

I'm hoping Le Cellier will live up to at least some of the hype...we have adr's there, lol.

another vote for Chef Mickeys
been there for both breakfast and dinner.
as for the characters..... Neither one was any better then the other character meals.

Food..... breakfast..... the usual ... kind of boring.
dinner..... just HORRIBLE.... we will never do dinner there again

Overrated, definately Le Cellier.

It's not bad but the DPP has IMHO, cheapened the menu. It isn't a must do anymore.

I'm waiting for the "bowl" of cheese soup to come out in a thimble.

LeCellier
BOMA- specifically the zebra domes. ick. :crazy2:
Yak & Yeti- People seem to love it...it was the worst meal for food & service we have ever had on Disney property. :sad2:

Wow - How awful!

I hope I don't experience anything like this as I don't think I would be so patient. I would probably be more confrontational about it. I rarely drink alcohol when on vacation because vacation usually means a warm/hot destination. Combining heat and alcohol makes me violently ill.

Out of curiosity, were you on a dining plan? I wonder if her reaction had something to do with gratuities.

OK, I am going to mix things up here a bit. Many of our favorites are on this list (we LOVE CM for breakfast and dinner, do both every trip, we LOVE CRT, do it every trip, we LOVE WCC, do it every trip, and LOVED LeCellier, did it for the first time this trip. We also very much like coral Reef, though we only do it sometimes.)

We were totally, completely disapointed with..........

California Grill. I know, people love it, but my DH and I went in November for our belated annivarsary dinner (15 years) and the food was just ok. Not bad, but not very good. The service was great, the view was amazing, but the food, not so great. We both said we wished we had gone to WPE for our dinner out (which is one of our new found favorite places!) We are not sushi people, I hear it is good there but no way for us! DH had salmon and I had the fillet. Very disapointing. The best part was the flatbread. Even dessert wasn't so great. In fact my DH's was bad. Give me a dole whip anytime...

To each his own, good thing there are so many offerings.

No. We were not on a dining plan. DH seems to think that $$$ did have something to do with it because alcohol costs more than cokes and I guess she figured her % would be higher with a higher total bill.

I have to say in all fairness, that the way I feel about the place has absolutely nothing to do with the food. We didn't eat anything there and they could have the most wonderful food in all of WDW for all we know. It was strictly the customer service that was bad.

I also need to say that is only one of 2 bad CM interactions we have had in nearly 20 trips to WDW. Overall they do a wonderful job and we have never had a bad server in a restaurant until (or since) that one.

CRT - hugely overrated, subpar food, rude servers, very crowded and seriously overpriced

Chef Mickeys - dirty, noisy, broken ice cream machines, yucky food, supbar servers, not the greatest characters, unorganized and huge waits

Brown Derby - the worst server ever in the history of us eating at WDW, subpar food (they forgot half of our Cobb salad) and noisy

Tiger

Chef Mickeys for dinner - food was subpar, the serving area was a mess, service was nonexistent - I really didn't feel like paying the bill for what we received. And we're not picky diners either....

I can't believe no one has mentioned Crystal Palace. On our honeymoon in 2006, everything looked so gross that I ate the kid foods like macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers, and fries. It was horrible.

I'd say Coral Reef, Jikos, Spoodles, Whispering Canyon, LTT, and the fish and chips CS in the UK.

Tried Coral Reef three times and while the steak is OK (pretty good in fact), our service has always been the worse, plus we got a table next to the aquarium and had kids climbing all over us

Tried Jiko twice and while OK, food just didn't live up to the hype

Tried Spoodles twice and got atrocious service both times

Whispering Canyon's food is just blah

LTT, again food is yuck. I can get Stouffers at my local grocery store

Fish and Chips in the UK were dripping with grease and we couldn't even eat them. We threw them away and went somewhere else for lunch.

Whispering Canyon Cafe. I think the food there is mediocre at best. The last time we ate there it was awful.

Also 1900 PF, we ate there a few years ago and we kept reading on the boards about how great the food was here. Supposed to be really good for a character buffet. It was just OK, no better than Chef Mickeys. Not sure though if it still gets as much "love" as it used to.

Wow! That is unbelievable as U.S. Macaroni and Cheese has to be the nasiest thing I have ever seen on a plate. Yikes! Not sure how greasy chicken fingers and fries is better than carved meats, soups and grilled veggies? I honestly think this was a blip, and that's why it hasn't been mentioned. We've eaten at Crystal Palace so many times, and honestly, the kids food is not good at all, but most of the other food is pretty decent (chefs are right there and will make you something, or fix something up for you), especially as compared to Chef Mickey's, Garden Grill or LTT.

Sorry you had a bad experience. To each his own, I guess, Tiger

LeCellier without a doubt. It used to be good about 6 or 7 years ago, but now we don't even bother with it. Now the character meals...none of them wow me, but we go to them for the kids to have the experience-certainly not for the food.
