Controversial topics board....did I do something wrong?

After reading through a few of the threads I'm like wow. Cancelling your family members over their politics? Yikes It's worse, darker and more hateful then I imagined. Maybe once the election is over it will calm down... or it will get worse. I'm not sure it's my cup of tea, but it's given me some insight to some of the posters on here. It's actually pretty disturbing.

Yeah, a pretty dark and vitriolic bunch of posters up there but the upside is that the main community board has lightened up!

It can get rough up there (often) but at the end of the day I would still love to meet up with everyone for a beverage......just not a cup of tea.

I don't know if alcohol and political discussions is a good combination.

That's pretty sad actually. My joy in life comes from my family, friends, work, God and my pets, just got a new puppy. Oh and of course my cruises. I don't want to lose family or friends because I don't like who they are voting for. The person who sits behind the resolute desk isn't worth that.

Again it is not about who is president- it is about if your values align with mine. If you are supporting policies that actively harm my family, it is hypocritical to say you love and support us- clearly you do not.

Im a pretty happy person with joy in my life the same as you. Holding true to your core beliefs and being around those who actually do support and love you is amazing.

Suffice to say the board has been mischaracterized by a poster that came in with accusations of ________ derangement syndrome. In all my life, I've never seen leading with things like that go over well anywhere.

Yeah, heaven forbid those posts take up the space for "Songs that have the word song in them" and "what are you eating tonight/next month/next holiday?"

Don't get me wrong, if someone wants to read/participate in those threads, go for it. Having somewhere to discuss controversial topics is no different than having somewhere to discuss "fluff" posts.

Since creating this board to allow for political and religious discussions, I’ve reduced related infractions by nearly 99%. I’d much rather provide members a place to discuss these topics with restrictions. In the past, we had a similar setup called the Debate Board, which was open to everyone and quickly became chaotic. I didn’t want to use that name again or make it visible to everyone. While this board isn’t for everyone, I feel it has helped keep these topics more contained, both for the community as a whole and to reduce reports, infractions, and bannings as much as possible.
