Just a quick question that I think I already know the answer to.

When you have contracts with multiple use years, you can mix and match points from the same home resort but different use years for the same reservation correct??

Thanks....Johnnie

As long as you maintain the 11-7 month windows it works.

As an example you have a 150 point OKW Dec. UY and a 150 point BWV June UY. You want to make ressies for a 2 BR at BWV for July at the 11 month window, you can only use the 150 points for BWV in August , if you were in Dec. you could use the OKW at the 7 month window. The resort maintains it's home requirements. You could borrow points from the following year to make the ressie though. A lot of people do that, alternate the home resort for ressies at the 11 month window.
I hope I didn't confuse you. Looking at it I'm confusing myself.

OK you have 2 separate HH contracts

150 June
150 March

You want to book a July reservation that uses 200 points.

You can book it at the 11 month window at HH by using 150 pt from March and 50 pts from June or any oher combo of points from these two contracts...correct?

i'm not positive this is correct, but using a slightly different version of your example:

you own 150 June, and 150 March.

you want to book a 1bdrm 8/30/03 to 9/4/03 at HH. this costs 200 points.

you would have to use 133 points from your June contract to book the first 5 nights. and then you would have to use 67 points from your March contract to book the last night (Sat 9/4). (btw, yikes! it costs that much on Sat nights???!?)

you can't combine 17pts from June with 50pts from March to book one single night.

Short answer. Yes you can do that, both are the same resort, 11 month window applies.

Good luck. Rich

What about transfering points between contracts to mix the points from two contracts for a single nights stay (i.e transfer the 17pts from the June UY to the 50 March UY).

That way you could combine the 17pts from June with 50pts from March to book one single night...right??

I have thoroughly confused myself

MS does let you do something like this already. At the 7 month window, you can combine points from different resorts to book a single night, but is this only true if all the resorts have the same contract number...right??

Reservations made with different contracts are separate but can be linked. MS also has signficant flexibility with multiple contracts of a single owner. They will even transfer banked or borrowed points in a pinch if needed. So as long as the timing is right where you can use both contracts individually, you should be able to use them together almost seamlessly.

In your example, March and June would work great for anything June through Feb but could be a problem for March through May.

At the risk of confusing you further, I just made a complicated reservations. I have April 270, August 232 and Dec 50 contracts. My accounting had the following.
  1. April 04 with 110 pts
  2. August 03 with 8 points (one not bankable)
  3. August 04 = 13 points
  4. Dec 03 with 50 points
  5. Dec 04 = 50 pts.
I wanted to make one reservation for June for a 2 BR at OKW for 5 ngihts for 150 points. I transferred 22 points to the August 03 use year and made one night. I then transferred 10 to the April 04 to make 120 and made the other 4 nights. That left me:
    1. No April 04 points
    2. No August 03 points
    3. 13 August 04 points
    4. 18 Dec 03 points
    5. 50 Dec 04 points.
I post this to let you know how complicated it can get and how much attention to detail one must observe when dealing with multiple contracts. Of course the more contracts, use years and home resorts, the more complicated it gets.

yes, you could transfer 17pts from June UY into your March UY account, in order to book that last night at 67pts.
however, that isn't exactly what i had in mind when i used the word "combine".

the second thing you mentioned, where MS can combine points from different resorts (but SAME UY) to book a single night. now that is truely combining points from different contracts.
if you take a look at your Points Activity Statement, you will see that MS does NOT transfer any points between contracts.
for example, i booked a ressie at BWV using my OKW contract AND my BWV contract. it is 2 nights, and costs 46pts.
MS deducted 45pts from my OKW contract. and then they deducted 1pt from my BWV contract.
there is NO transfer activity between contracts.

so that is what i meant by you cannot combine points between the March UY and June UY.
the only way you could effectively "combine" points is if you transfer points from one contract to another.

and actually, in my example, if you're gonna be doing a transfer anyway... you might as well transfer 50pts from the March UY into your June UY contract.
that way you have the full 200pts in your June UY contract, and you can keep your entire ressie as 1 single continuous ressie for all 6 nights.

the main reason i used the 5-night 133pts ressie from June contract, linked with 1-night 67pts ressie from March contract, is because i somehow got the impression that MS prefers to do things that way. and that they seem to discourage transferring points around.
