Having recently flown Birmingham-Newark-Denver with Continental, I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend them.
The 757 is simply too small for a transatlantic flight - uncomfortable for passengers (and we were in row 7 by the door, so had more space than most) and inconvenient for cabin crew to work.
The cabin crew on our outbound flight were the worst of any airline I've ever experienced. Took off 0900, given one drink (no refill) shortly afterwards. Had (extremely poor quality) meal literally thrown at us approx 1000, then crew did DF round. They then disappeared completely until about 1.5 hours from Newark when we got another drink and the snack.
So, 2 drinks on an 8-hour flight. No water and juice runs as American do regularly. No drinks left out for you to help yourself, as American do.
Also of note was the fact that the cabin services supervisor barely spoke English, a situation I've never had on any US airline before. When he made the announcements they were virtually incomprehensible, even if you pretty much knew what he was probably saying. And when he was distracted partway through, his grasp of the language was so poor he couldn't pick it up and had to start reading it from the beginning again.
Admittedly, the crew on the Newark-Denver flight were better - they did at least 3 drink rounds plus a water/juice run, on a 4-hour flight. And the food was better too.
Although the return flight was marginally better, I think we'll stick to American from Manchester, with a 767 and consistently good crew. Which is a pity, because DH works at BHX!
