We are staying at the contemporary on our upcoming trip and I was just wondering how you get back to the hotel after the monorail closes. The website I went to said that the monorail closes one hour after regular theme park hours. What do you do if you stay for extra magic hours that go for another three hours ? Is there a bus or do you have to walk back to the hotel?

I'd walk just to save time from the MK, not even sure if they'd run a bus for that distance, your only (easy) option is bus from the others

And they are a major PITA.

We were headed back to CR from Epcot after park close. I packed my patience and just enjoyed people watching as we waiting several monorails to get to TTC. Once we got there I didn't even realize it was after MK park closing and the resort loop was closed! We waited 40 minutes for a bus that stopped at every resort around Bay Lake.

It would have been quicker to walk from Epcot!

If you are at MK, I recommend walking back to CR if you are leaving at closing. We loved the walk back. No waiting with crowds of people. When we were there last August the monorail line was hit by lightening so it was down one night. I felt horrible for the people having to wait to get on the buses. When you can, walk!

And this is the reason why we opt for a taxi after park closing. MK we just walk back to BLT/CR.

Coming back from the Magic Kingdom you can use the walkway. Now if your coming back from Epcot and the Monorail to the TTC has stopped for the evening then they will start running Buses. Finally Buses are also available when your coming back from Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.
