Contemporary Suites Permits

My take, is that it was probably proposed to be a DVC site, but that WDW thought it would be better for it to remain all rental suites. Perhaps demand is up for "suites" and with some of the suites at AKL being converted to DVC and the Contemporary having a convention center....

Some posters said Disney cancelled DVC at the Contemporary at the last minute.

Look at the current permits. Compare AK (known DVC developement) with the Contemporary:

Appl No#: 061106-23
Project Name: Dvc @ Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
Oper Entity: Walt Disney World Hospitality & Recreation Corp.

Appl No#: 061106-23
Project Name: Disney'S Contemporary Suites
Oper Entity: Walt Disney World Co Inc

A better question, is Disney going to be building hotel suites in the N Wing. We have All-Star Suites. Disney is continuing to market the Contemporary as a convention hotel. Suites may be part of the non DVC plan.

edited to say permit applications prior to November 2006 seem to mention DVC and the later applications no longer mention DVC. That supports the theory that DVC at the Contemporary was cancelled.

I'm a little unclear on the distinction you're trying to make, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I assume you're referencing the fact that DVC is in the application title for AKL, but not the Contemporary. The application for the Contemporary has been on the site since November, but without documentation. We had all been discussing the permit for the DVC trailer compound at that time, too. I think they took DVC out of the application title to quiet the rumor mill. The supporting documentation was posted on the site today.

Also, I know that these rumors have been dismissed by many. However, since the announcement of the VAKL in October, there have been permits for the trailer compound on the water management site and on the Orange County Comptroller's site and a permit for demolition using the North wing's address on the comptroller's site. There is still NO notice of commencement for renovation. Just my 2 cents.

I think the major distinction is the operating entity is different for the two projects. I really, really wanted a DVC at the Contemporary!!

Could be - "Disney Vacation Club" and "DVC" are mentioned in the "Design Level Geotechnical Services" report several times in that link, but it's dated August 10th. The actual application does not mention DVC (dated November 6th).

True, but this was also the operating entity for the "DVC@ Contemporary Construction Trailer Compound." I just can't let go! :sad1:

I totally agree Chuck.

Thank you LewisC for clearing that up.

Is this even a DVC room layout?

I suppose it could be a new design, but it doesn't look convenient. Is that the kitchen in the middle of the center room, across from the couch? If so, I guess that would be a Grand Villa. Not very spacious.

i dunno
some of the paperwork filed within the same packets seem to use the two titles (DVC @ Contemporary and Disney Contemporary Suites) interchangeably...

Looks like a plasma though from the depth in the TV cabinet area :)

I'm not sure that the different operating entities mean anything. Look at the appraisers site for the parcel id's on the VAKL and the Contemporary Suites permits. All of the land relating to the Contemporary is owned by WDW Co. When you look at the id for VAKL, there are some entries for WDW Hospitality.

That is the point, I think, about the different names. If the Contemporary were going to be a DVC projrct, wouldn't the land would have to be "leased" by an operating company of DVC, and the permits issued to that entity, rather than WDW Co.?

I think it's hilarious that they list door knob consultants :)

Hmmmm......

How do you supose they'd know which doorknobs to utilize without Certified Doorknob Consultants.

Plus, that was my dream career.....so many knobs, so few doors......

:rotfl: :happytv: :cool1:

oh I want a CRV badly!!!

but that other person say this might happen. that the Cont wants the suites and they will be built.

now if later some of it is sold to DVC might also happen - but DVC WOULD NOT have the entire building - time will tell.

if it is just suites then no full kitchen. If DVC then it would have a full kitchen.

I talked to a CM a couple of days ago and he said they WERE starting it in a couple of years. AKV must be finished first.

It looks like a 2 bedroom unit that sleeps 9 to me. Look at some of the other units where the "furniture" isn't drawn in. It could be split into a studio and 1 bedroom that would sleep 5 - the king bed, the sleeper sofa and a chair. The "kitchen" is similar to OKW's with the "island."

Taking off my rose-colored glasses now! :hippie:

my word -- this must be getting "interesting" to those who have previously sworn that DVC will never be apart of the CR !!!
