It's being reported that a quick service restaurant/counter will open either next to or in place of the Outer Rim Lounge on the 4th floor Grand Canyon Concourse on 7/30/07. This quick service location is scheduled to operate through 8/14/08! The food and fun center on the 1st floor will be closing on 7/29/07.

The projected completion date for the The Wave (new restaurant on the 1st floor) is March or April 2008. The Concourse Steakhouse will be closed at this time to make way for expansion of Chef Mickey's and the installation of Chef Mickey's Express. The projected completion date for this project is mid-August 2008.

Am I reading this correctly, that the Concourse Steak house will remain open until early next year then?

Can you please confirm where you heard this information from? If it's true I can see it for myself since my family and I would be checking into the Contemporary from 8/7/07-8/17/07.

I saw this info too, posted on another fairly reliable Disney info site, so I think it's worth noting. I'm wondering why they aren't going to extend the temporary CS through free dining, since there were so many problems with overbooked restaurants last time. Of course, they could always make the decision to extend at the last minute.

The only part of this I find to be contradictory, is that if they put the new CS in the old Steakhouse spot, how are they going to expand Chef Mickeys? It would make more sense to build a permanent CS where the Outer Rim is, and let Chef Mickey's take over the entire Steakhouse space.

Yes, the Concourse Steakhouse will be open until either March or April 2008. It will close when construction of the The Wave is completed.

It's my understanding that this info. has been posted either in the WDW cast newspaper or portal website. Maybe a CM can confirm the info. for us. It's also posted on several other disney discussion boards. The last piece of the puzzle is when does the rehab of the lobby and front desk area begin? Looks like the CR is going to be a construction zone for some time to come.

The temporary counter will be open through this year's free dining as its not scheduled to close until 8/2008. With regard to Chef Mickey's Express, the rumors are that only a portion of the space occupied by the Concourse Steakhouse will be used for the expansion of Chef MIckey's.

I was afraid of this! We are staying at the Contemporary from August 19th-24th! My kids really like grabbing something from the food center after a day at the parks. Does anyone know if the new location at the Outer Rim will have a grill for quick breakfasts or dinners or will it be like a grab and go with just sandwiches and salads etc.? What about refillable mugs? If I recall correctly, when the Poly did the rehab of Capt Cooks there were no refillable mugs. I was hoping they wouldn't be doing this until after my stay!

I said this before and I will say it again because some people don't seem to get it. When they open Chef Mickey's Express the only place on the 4th floor is where the Concourse Stekhouse use to be and here is why. They already changed the Fantasia store into the new arcade location, they already have the Bay View Gifts & Sundries stores, the Outer Rim location is to small but only good for a temporary location and finally they already have the Chef Mickey's restaurant. So that leaves the Concourse Steakhouse location as the only place where Chef Mickey's Express could open at.

CR resort fan 4 Life...I'm not sure that anyone is doubting that the final place for Chef Mickeys Express is going to be at the concourse steakhouse site,so im not sure why you think no one is getting it. It seems like the logical place for it, but I don't see anywhere in these posts that people are saying it is not going to go there. I'm just a little confused by your response.

When this was talked about on older threads some people could not believe that the Concourse Steakhouse was the logical choice for the new Food & Fun Center location once they change the name to Chef Mickey's Express, after I gave the exact same examples as I did on this thread. So call my post as a reminder to anyone who may not think that so the question of where it will go does not need to be brought up again.

My bad! I read it as '07, not '08. That makes a little more sense, although I still can't figure out how Chef Mickey's can expand if they are putting a CS restaurant (Chef Mickey's Express) where the Steakhouse was. And no one has mentioned what will happen to the Outer Rim space after the temporary CS closes. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If I had to guess, I'm thinking that maybe they will use the old Outer Rim space as additional seating for Chef Mickey's Express when it opens in its permanent location. So, if anyone finds out any additional information on this temporary location, such as, will there be refillable mugs available or if its just going to be a grab and go place, I would love to hear it! Thanks

Anyone have any more info on the Wave? Would love to know more details. Our next trip is planned for April 08. It was stated that this is when the Wave will open. What type of food to be served will it be one table service or two?

The rumor is "The Wave" will offer an asian fusion type menu with foods from China, Japan, and other Asian countries.

What part of the Outer Rim do you think would be used for extra setting at Chef Mickey's? My guess it would be the area that is close to it, since the other area faces the Concourse Steakhouse so it would make no sense to expand all the way there.

I have heard it is going to be an Asian themed menu and it would a table service restaurant just like the Concourse Steakhouse.

Hopefully, someone will post this info. as soon as the temporary location opens. I know that when the Polynesian closed their quick service location for rehab, refillable mugs or hot food items were not offered. It was basically a grab and go place.

If no one posts anything I will when I am staying at the Contemporary, assuming the internet in the rooms is still free. I know there is a business center with internet, however it's hard to pay for it once you had it free right in your own room.

Isn't the Outer Rim across from the concourse Steak house? I just thought that maybe they would use that area for tables for Chef Mickeys Express when it opens in its permanent location at the steak house spot. Even though it is going to be counter service, I assume they will have seating..so I thought the outer Rim space might be a good spot for some extra seating ???

I don't think they could use the whole space of the Outer Rim because it would look weird because of where the Chef Mickey's check-in is located. So my guess is they would only use the area towards Chef Mickey's for the extra tables.

DRAT...we were hoping that the food & fun center would be open for hot food through September. I seem to remember a lot of complaints coming from Poly folks when they just had a "grab and go" area. If DH can't have his refillable mug full of coffee and his bacon and egg breakfast, he will be cranky!:scared1:
