Contemporary North Wing Demolition!

Holy cow! Well, that's kind of a definitive answer to the age-old 'refurb or demolition' debate! :rotfl:

Thanks for posting these, it gives me hope for a Contemporary DVC!!

That settles it! (I guess) Thanks for posting.

As for the interior changes, I like CR, but, having been there in December, that new gray carpet on the 4th floor is dull, drab, and depressing. I'm sure the changes will be nice when finished, but it's off to a shaky start. The best thing they can do to improve it in my opinion is get the food court out of that dark lower floor and move it up to the 4th floor where some natural light can come in.

Nice Michelle

That looks like a bit more then changing the bedding and carpet:lmao:

I guess they are not just redecorating the rooms. It kind of looks sad being torn down.

Yeahhhhhh, sad to look at but maybe people will be willing to try it again....after my last stay we said never again!

I must spend too much time on the Theme Park Boards! I had no idea that part of the Contemporary was going to be demolished!! Where have I been?

Is anything coming up in it's place? We stayed in the South Garden Wing once, and always hoped to get back there someday!

Those pictures are so sad for me. They show them tearing down the last CR room I stayed in. I really loved the North Wing and I don't like the South Wing. It's not that I mind them putting DVC at the Contemporary, but I hate the idea of another tower that will take away from the sleek lines of the current tower. I wish they would do something that would blend in with the current hotel better, like they did at BCV, BWV, and VWL. Even the conception art for the new DVC at AKL shows architecture that blends well with the existing resort. Why are they determined to make an eyesore out of what was a beautiful resort?

I think I and lot of other folks are not aware either.

I think the vast majority feel the existing (I guess past tense) North Wing was the eyesore. I actually like the renderings of the speculated DVC resort. I think it will surprise many with how well it will compliment the Tower structure.

I have stayed in the N Wing and was really neutral about it until I stayed in the tower. I never wanted to stay in the wings again.

Thanks for the pictures. I agree that the pictures are sad, but at the same time I'm excited about the new building going up in its place.

I guess those pics are 100% enough proof that shows the North Garden Wing is going to be torn down & I think the DVC at the Contemporary talk will start to heat up even more now.

Does anyone have a link or the pic that was floating around of what the new CR building will look like? I tried to do a search but couldn't come up with it. I remember it was crescent shaped?

I think it's a good thing. That wing always reminded me of public housing. That courtyard with the sad playscape...blech.

I'm with you....I stayed in the North Wing a few years back, and while I liked the room very much, the outside of the building looked terrible. Garden-variety motel. If you went past on the boat to WL after it rained, the water-stained concrete made it look even worse.

The tower is a true Disney icon, and I hope they never mess with it. But IMHO, getting rid of both wings would be a benefit to the resort's appearance.

While you may have a point of the Contemporary looking a lot better if there was no Garden Wing rooms at all, I don't think they will ever get rid of the South Garden Wing. Since they renovated the rooms there, so why do all that work there for nothing? Now maybe 10 or 20 years from now they might, however I would not hold my breath about that.

No, I don't expect them to do anything with the south wing anytime soon, and from the pictures I've seen, the renovated rooms look fantastic. Just making a general statement of my opinion. :)

I think with the convention center, they will need to keep the South Wing for some time.
