Contemporary North Wing Demolition!

We will be arriving at CR in less than 48 hours. Dh just bought a new digital camera, so I will be sure to take lots of photos and post them if anyone is interested. Yes, a little sad to see, but just think of what may be coming. I do agree that the wings were looking a bit shabby-we stayed in a junior suite in the north wing while the rehab had begun in the tower. I am excited to think of what may be next.

Thanks, Michelle. Anyone know when the game room should be completed? And where will the gift shops be located now?

They sure are thorough when it comes to cleaning the asbestos, as some folks commented that they were doing!! :thumbsup2

Bring on the DVC resort!

Yes please!!!

want a DVC resort!

of course the plans - bunch of information on the DVC board - also not only say CRV (which would be DVC) - but they sometime call it Contemporary Suites - would not be DVC.

so until Disney says - or worst - when the kitchen stuff goes in - we will know.

DVC resorts 1 bedroom and up have a kitchen.

WDW resort suites do not - only a kitchennett.

hope it is a DVC!!!!

as far as the building - dvc designs very pretty building - it will blend with the Cont tower and probably make the tower looks so much better.

my thing would be if they do make it suites. then only the rich get to see it. with a DVC at least everyone could join that or at least rent one.

  Hey I 'm all for sharing...DVC/Suites ...but please give me a DVC on a Monorail so I can do an add on.........

I am itching for an add on and have been praying for the Cont. to have a DVC!! I have never been a fan of the outside, but the location, and renovations have really changed how I feel about the place. Oh please let this demo be a sign of a DVC!!!

Yeah, this new structure is over powering in correlation to the CR Tower...they should have maintained the low profile of the wing designs.

On the other hand the CR and PR designs have not worked as engineered...to allow easy maintenance. Based upon this intrusive design, it would be possible to see other changes in thie CR area if maintenance cost continue to rise.

if this is a DVC resort - then the more units - the more they have to sell - the more money Disney gets.

if it is suites - well no one will ever complaint about not getting a WDW suite again.

the wings were small because of the Tower. This is not going to be directly behind the tower - so it won't interfer with the views for the Tower.

if the wings were taller than 4th floors - they would be in the way of guest views.

besides I really think this building will add to the Cont not take away.

I stayed at the Contemporary for the first time in 2005 and stayed in the North Wing. It is sad to see it coming down after all the time it has been in existance. Another bit of Disney history bites the dust.

Wow, we never stayed in the garden wing, but it looks weird to be demolished. I'm sure what they put in place will be nice though.

Just a bump up in case those folks who "think" they booked the North Wing for their next trip see the new "air conditioning" they have installed. I've seen so many posts recently from folks who booked trips and requested the North Wing and the CMs were telling them it will be open.....OK, I saw the pictures and it is now "OPEN" (on all sides).

Hmm I have the CR Tower booked for December, but now I'm wandering if construction is going to be a problem. We enjoy sitting on the balcony and don't want it to be ruined by the sounds of bulldozers and banging.... :)

Well yuck. That new monstrosity of a building looks like it *will* kind of obstruct the view of some of the tower rooms (or will be a distraction if nothing else).

I'm not thrilled about any of the changes in the Contemporary, actually. I guess I'm "old skool," but I kind of like the way things are now. :(

:lmao: :happytv: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

hey maybe they will get luck and get upgraded to the Tower..

It looks like this WILL be a DVC. Disney filed papers recently to request demolition and to build a DVC resort.

Go here, page two to check it out:

http://www.miceage.com/kevinyee/ky020107b.htm

The link is toward the bottom of the page.

Or read it here:

Walt Disney World Co. has received approval from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) for Disney's Contemporary Suites (the as-yet-unannounced highrise DVC resort on the site of the Contemporary Resort North Wing). Undoubtedly, this is one of several regulatory filings that must be approved. The files were posted today by the SFWMD on their website. The files include drawings and descriptions. Take a look: Go to http://my.sfwmd.gov/ePermitting/PopulateLOVs.do

In the "Application #:" field, type 061106-23. Do not bother filling in any other fields. Press the "Run Report" button. You should get one result (for project Disney's Contemporary Suites). Click on the blue text "Appl No#:" You should get a page which includes three folders with a total of six PDF files. Open the PDF files (some of which are quite large), and read all about it!

Amy -- yes the same stuff is on the DVC board.

in several places it also refers to a Cont suites which would not be CRV.

believe me I want it more.

Disney has changed it mind often and no guarantees it won't again.

CRV was surpose to happen before AKV - guess what we got AKV first - so still waiting patience for CRV.:goodvibes

Bring on the DVC resort!

The asbestos removal began on Oct. 1 when the North Wing was closed and was finished prior to the tear down. You have to contain the asbestos before you can tear it down.

Pat, I don't think the term suites is mutually incompatible with it being a DVC property. Think of the Inn at VB.

Perhaps the suites will be a combo of hotel/DVC resort as people on the DVC board have speculated. And perhaps the suites won't have a full kitchen. I would not miss the stove ornament but surely hope the whirlpool and washer/dryer would still be there if the suites are somewhat different from a typical DVC villa.

wow! it's so strange to see it being torn down - sad too. I don't like how big the new building looks in the drawing.
