Contemplating canceling...

A very long flight indeed. Lucky for me the Dramamine made me so sleepy that I only woke up to eat. And the flight was long enough that I was awake by the time we landed. I love Guangzhou! I would go back.
My husband was in China and one of the guys in his group lost his passport. My husbands trip was extended a week. You did all that at 21! Awesome :)

Oh I loved China. This was almost exactly 9 years ago and I would love to go back. My company is doing a lot of expanding in China so hopefully one day they'll send me. :goodvibes

Sleeping during flights is always hard for me because I'm a nervous flier and no amount of meds or alcohol helps, haha. I just stay wide awake and watch movies or read or play games. My last couple of flights were during the day, and over land, so I got to take lots of gorgeous shots from the sky and edit them on my iPad, so that wasted some time as well. :)

Yeah the nerves get me too. Luckily someone shared their non drowsy meds with me on the way home. I had our new 4 year old daughter so there was no sleeping for me on the way home. Oh and the flight was awful. Turbulence was scary. I hope to take her back to see china one day. Still mad I skipped Disney Hong Kong :(

You'll be fine.

I'm married with kids and love to travel solo. I've flown to disney world solo the last 7 times I've gone.

I can't wait to go again although I may have to drive that time since flights have gone up.

At 19 years old, I flew alone from Florida to South Korea - landed in Seoul and took a 3-hour train ride down to the southern part of the country to visit a friend and see the sights. I rented a little place and stayed for the full 3 months my visa would allow. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my entire life! You can do it!!!!! :thumbsup2

Thank you everyone... I am going to face my fears and I am going to Disney!!! How is it dining alone? I am going to do mostly quick service meals but was thinking of going to the hoop dee doo.

I am a week away from not necessarily being alone, but I am going with just my 7 and 9yr old. When I booked this trip I was all excited, but now as it gets closer and I realize my DH won't be there I am getting a little nervous.

I know that once I get off that plane everything will be fine. So I might not be alone, but I am still nervous.

Once you get there you will have a great time. pixiedust:

I have 66 days until my vacation for which I am going alone. I have been to Disney before and I cannot wait for all the fun I will have.

I could have written this post myself. I'm going to wdw this weekend all alone and it's my first time traveling alone. I have done days at wdw alone so I know once I get there I will be fine. I have a late flight so I plan to sleep so I can be up for the all nighter. I'm just worried about getting through the airport and onto the plane. I'm like that with everything though lol

I think you will be fine!! Traveling and dining! You can do it!! I speak from experience that when we were dining at WDW, I wasn't paying attention to anyone else or who was alone, with a big group, etc (my own 2 kids kept me busy). Also, my first time flying alone I was in 8th grade and I flew from PA to meet family at WDW!! That destination alone helped alleviate any fears or nerves! (On a personal note, I love dining alone. Anywhere. I take myself out to lunch-alone-once a week in the summer while my kids are on field trips with their daycare! It is very relaxing and it is one of my simple pleasures in life!)

Thanks so much everyone. It's not that I don't think I can do the travel process I think it's just a long trip (only a three hr flight haha) by myself. I will be taking the magical express so I don't have to worry about travel at all really. I don't know what's holding me back

I think there's always a little anxiety when you're doing something new, especially on your own. That's perfectly natural! As long as you prepare ahead of time (have things to do to occupy your time in the airport and on the plane), I bet the time will fly by for you. And once you get to Disney, it's all golden!

I bet you'll be surprised how well you handle things solo. You'll be very proud of yourself!

Think about all the positives - you can go on any attractions you want, at any time you want, without having to please anyone else. If you want to sleep in you can! If you want to stay in the parks until closing, you can! That's a special kind of freedom.

I made my first solo trip last summer and I was also hesitant. I love Disney more than my daughter and husband combined, and we got a pin in the mail last spring. I asked my DH if I could go by myself. I think he thought I was joking and said "Yeah, okay!" Well, when I started throwing prices at him he realized it wasn't a joke. I drove down there (all the way from Chicago) by myself! That was the scariest part, but I was smart and stayed alert. Once I got to Disney, I relaxed and had a wonderful trip! I also stayed at Pop and thought it was perfect for a solo traveler. My room was in the 50's section facing the 60's section, so it was really close to the main building. I never felt unsafe the entire time I was there (but I still was always aware of my surroundings). Even coming back at night, Pop seemed bright and busy. It was nice that there was only one bus stop, too, that way there was never the chance of me getting off by myself and having to wind through dark sidewalks alone.
I loved being able to do what I wanted to do - not having to please everyone else. I actually liked dining alone. My first meal was at Kona, and besides the people next to me yelling at their kids the entire time, the meal was great. I had a Kindle with me, but rarely had the chance to use it. During my meal at Le Cellier, I was seated next to this lovely couple celebrating their anniversary and chatted with them almost the entire meal. The husband was a member of Dis, so we had a lot to talk about! When I went to Boma (that was my only buffet) I was a little nervous they'd clear my table and give it to someone else when I would go up for more food, but my server was great and always made sure there was room for more plates on my table when I got back! With quick service meals it was tricky. Sometimes I would forget to grab silverware or a napkin before getting my table. I was very uncomfortable leaving my food alone there, so I would just wait until I was done to get my napkin. So make sure you have everything before you get a seat!
In lines I sometimes talked to little kids, but just watching them was entertainment enough. I loved people watching, especially at Disney. Seeing the magic through children's eyes makes everything even better.
I'm glad to see you're going to make the trip. I had such an amazing time on my solo trip that I'm trying to talk my husband into allowing me an every-other-year expedition. Here's hopin'!!! Have a great trip!! :woohoo:

I'm a female who travels alone for work often. I find it easier to navigate an airport alone than dragging the husband and kids along. Dining alone at a table service resturant alone was awkward at first, but once you try it, it really ends up being no big deal. If you are nervous about that, there are plenty of quick service you can do instead.

If I am dining alone I will always have a book with me. Lol, so I have an excuse stay busy or people watch depending upon my mood

not only can you do it, I would go so far as to say I am jealous. I have a lot of kids, travelling on my own (usually for work) is awesome. I breeze through security without all the hassles, I am not a Sherpa for all these other little people, peace and quiet to read or watch something that isn't animated-it is great. I could easily do 3 days on my own at WDW, it would be very different, but still lots of fun. enjoy!

THIS!
Don't get me wrong...I LOVE my crew!...and we always enjoy our trips, but it absolutely wears me out! Sherpa....LOL!

Go...and have a good time for those of us who will be living vicariously through your experiences! (Trip report maybe!) :goodvibes

I booked a last minute trip... I am an annual passholder and flights were really cheap. I will be traveling alone. I am generally an independent person and I don't think it would bother me to be alone too much but I just keep thinking about how I'm going to have to do the traveling process alone and I am a little hesitant. I don't know what to do. I don't have any problem roaming the parks alone... I think I just need some validation that I can do this LOL.

I just wanted to say "thank you" because your post actually helped ME! I will be flying to Phoenix this weekend for a class, renting a car and staying in Sedona alone for 3 nights and am a little nervous doing it all by myself. Your post made me feel so much better! I never travel alone ( have flown alone before but never rented a car alone and have only stayed in a hotel alone for one night before) we can do it! My Mom, who has cruised alone and traveled to Europe alone tells me to talk to people, it helps you feel less "alone" :) Enjoy your trip!!

Thank you everyone... I am going to face my fears and I am going to Disney!!! How is it dining alone? I am going to do mostly quick service meals but was thinking of going to the hoop dee doo.

I've never done Hoop De Doo, but I've done plenty of TS dining on my solo trips and never felt uncomfortable. I even did a solo breakfast at Hollywood & Vine this year specifically for the Dis Jr characters and everyone was super-sweet. If there's something you want to try, go for it! In a way, I think I prefer TS when solo, because I don't have to look for a seat and worry that I'm taking up too much space.

Magical Express is awesome! Not having to claim bags and lug them around, not having to worry about driving - ME just makes things that much easier, IMO.

I don't mind flying alone except I always hope I don't get stuck next to some Gabby Gus or Gertie on the plane. ;) If you're going to or through an unfamiliar airport, get online and look for info. I had to connect in Atlanta on my 2013 trip, never been there before, but I watched lots of videos, looked at the airport info, etc, so when I got there I knew how to get between Concourses, where I could eat lunch, etc.

Just watch out - once you do WDW solo, you may find it addicting!

You can totally do it and I think you'll find you enjoy it more than you think. I have done solo traveling a variety of ways. My family lives in the midwest while I am in the west. Generally, because I am still young enough to get away with it and I want to maximize my Disney time I will take a red-eye in and my family will come in later in the day. You don't have to worry about dragging others along in security or getting on the plane quickly (unless you worry about a rollerboard with bin space).

I have taken the magical express alone multiple times to meet up with the family later and it's definitely okay. I tend to be pretty introverted around strangers, but when Disney is involved I find myself chatting up kids, families, and couples much more. The first time I stayed in a hotel room myself it was weird, but I quickly found that it is awesome at the same time. It's not my favorite thing to do, but it can be relaxing as well.

Seems like the parks aren't too much of a worry for you, but going solo is one of my favorite ways to tour. I have a personality that wants to make sure everyone around me is happy and having fun, so having alone time in the park can make me see it in a different way. Not necessarily better, but different.

I am always nervous before I travel solo. I am actually leaving for my Disneyland solo trip in just 9 days. I have my very first solo trip planned for WDW in August. I worry about everything. However, once I start packing, and getting all my stuff together, I feel better. I make lists, so I don't forget anything. I keep things as simple as possible, in order to make the airline travel less stressful. I have it down to a science I think.

I like vacationing alone, because I can do exactly what I want, when I want. No other people rushing me, and wanting to do stuff that I don't want to do. I can take as many pictures as I want, and ride Dumbo to my heart's content.

Those are some of the things that I remember when I start worrying. Be prepared, because I know that ultimately when I get there, I am going to have a fabulous time.
