I booked a last minute trip... I am an annual passholder and flights were really cheap. I will be traveling alone. I am generally an independent person and I don't think it would bother me to be alone too much but I just keep thinking about how I'm going to have to do the traveling process alone and I am a little hesitant. I don't know what to do. I don't have any problem roaming the parks alone... I think I just need some validation that I can do this LOL.

you will be fine. seriously, you will be ok. i hate traveling alone, but once i get there and get on the plane i am great. it is almost more like sadness for me. but once i get there i am good. i have a book or my ipad and i am good to go.

I just arrived yesterday for four solo days at Disney and I am LOVING it! You can totally do it.

Would this be your first time traveling along? Are you flying? It can be kind of intimidating, but it's much easier these days with cell phones and computers. When I first started traveling solo (for work) we didn't have a lot of that technology.

That being said - if I'm doing something for the first time, I tend to do some practice runs. The first time I flew out of BWI instead of Philly I picked a day a week earlier and did the drive just so I would be familiar with the route and understand the kind of traffic there would be.

Unfamiliar airports are a bit scary, but most airports now have people in place to help you find things.

Hope this helps. Is there anything specific that is making you hesitant?

You'll be fine! :) I travel by myself a lot, including flying. It can be a little intimidating at first, but it's really nothing worth canceling a wonderful trip to Disney over!

You can do it!

I had never flown by myself until last year. I took a trip from Boston to California (5 1/2 hr flight) last year and had to fly by myself to meet up with some friends. I was a little nervous, but it worked out fine. Since then, I've done it twice more! Now flying alone is a breeze.

Once you do it once, you'll be happy knowing that you can do it again and not have to worry.

If you don't have one already, treat yourself to an Ipad. Load it up with some books, movies, games. Set up your email, so you will have your itinerary, boarding passes, reservation info and other "stuff" right there in one handy to get to place. Go through your travel plan in your head a few times so you will be familiar with everything that will happen. Leave early so you won't be stressed out if you hit long security lines or other glitches. Having over 20 years experience as a sales guy I can tell you that nothing will boost your confidence more than being well prepared.

I flew to China alone, you can do this. It didn't hit me until I kissed my husband goodbye. Sat on that plane and there was no turning back. It wasn't bad at all. Well trying to find my way around shanghai airport was no fun. But as long as the signs are in English I was good!! Do it!!!

You can do it! It's fine. Are you a nervous flier or are you just hesitant about flying alone in general?

I really don't get the chance to travel out of the state very often (I live in FL), and on the off-chance that I do, I always end up having to travel alone. I am a nervous flier so I get worried, but it's really not so bad. Just in the past couple months, I took my first flight in seven years (to San Francisco)! I was EXTREMELY nervous but everything was just fine. Then a month later I had to take a very last minute flight to SF again, for a job interview, again solo.

Now I feel like a pro, even though its only been two trips, lol.

Just think of all the fun you'll have once you're at the park. Don't miss out on the opportunity!

The traveling portion always stinks when you're alone. Find your bags, get a car, no one is there on your side unless you pay them ... ugh.

BUT THEN YOU'RE AT DISNEYWORLD! All better. :cool1:

I had to do this too! Technically I was with a tour group but they were all strangers so it was a little awkward. That was a LONG 18 hour flight, I'll tell you.

Then I lost my passport in Guangzhou and my tour group was flying back home the next day, so they had to leave me behind. I spent a week in China completely alone as a 21 year old, lol. It was terrifying and also AWESOME.

You'll be fine and have a great time!

If it's the travelling that is most intimidating to you (getting to the airport, checking in, handling your bags, security check, picking up bags, rental car/taxi, etc...), then my best advice is to leave yourself plenty of extra time so that you can take your time and go at a relaxed pace. Spend the tip money to take advantage of baggage porters at the airport, if you are concerned about being able to carry things on your own.

On a positive note, it can actually be less stressful when all you have to worry about is yourself, at least that's how I feel about it. Travelling as the lead planner of the family, trying to keep track of everybody, making sure everybody is happy and avoiding situations that could put somebody else into a grumpy mood are what stress me out. Going through an airport alone seems a breeze after that. :thumbsup2

You can do it. Remember, if you get to the airport, and you don't want to go, you don't have to get on the plane. If you land in Orlando and you don't want to go, you can find a flight home. If you get to Disney and you're not having a good time alone, you can go home the next day. Etc etc.

My point is to just focus on getting yourself to do the first step and let the rest follow. You are in control...if you decide you don't want to go through with it, give yourself the freedom to bail at any point.

I have a feeling once you get over the hump of getting to the airport (and through security), you will be good to go! And if not, that's ok too. But thinking of things in small steps can help sometimes.

You can totally do this! My first flight ever was a solo 8 hour flight to London. :) Actually more than half my flights have been solo, now that I think about it. The most annoying part was chatty seat mates, but now I just put on headphones and either read or watch a movie.

I definitely suggest either a test drive to the airport or plan to take a cab (I prefer a cab so I can relax on the drive).

Thanks so much everyone. It's not that I don't think I can do the travel process I think it's just a long trip (only a three hr flight haha) by myself. I will be taking the magical express so I don't have to worry about travel at all really. I don't know what's holding me back

I love the wee little bit of alone travel time I get. It is time that is all my own. I hope you find what brings you joy in your trip!

A very long flight indeed. Lucky for me the Dramamine made me so sleepy that I only woke up to eat. And the flight was long enough that I was awake by the time we landed. I love Guangzhou! I would go back.
My husband was in China and one of the guys in his group lost his passport. My husbands trip was extended a week. You did all that at 21! Awesome :)

not only can you do it, I would go so far as to say I am jealous. I have a lot of kids, travelling on my own (usually for work) is awesome. I breeze through security without all the hassles, I am not a Sherpa for all these other little people, peace and quiet to read or watch something that isn't animated-it is great. I could easily do 3 days on my own at WDW, it would be very different, but still lots of fun. enjoy!
