Contact lens & rides

My DH wears contacts and has no problems on any of the ride, including the ones you mentioned.

I've lost a contact on Space Mountain, but otherwise have never had trouble with my lenses. She should make sure she takes a spare pair with her just in case, though. In my case, I take two sets. Since we take a nap/midday break, I also wear two different sets at Disney. One in the morning and then take those out at nap and another one after the nap.

I've never had a single problem wearing my contacts on any ride at Disney! Have a great trip!

Contacts should be fine. If my boyfriend can exit RnR, Space & EE with his glasses still on his face you won't have a problem with contacts, lol

Can you swim with contacts in? She's always taken hers out to swim.

It sounds like she's using a good pair of long-life contacts. You may want to consider getting a set of disposable soft contacts. A cheap package will include 10 pairs and cost less than $40. The only sacrifice is that the cheaper ones do not correct astigmatism. I use them when glasses are impractical (waterparks, intense roller coasters, skiing). My ophthalmologist said that if I treat them like long-life contacts (cleaning and soaking nightly), I can get 5-10 days wear out of each pair.

My experience:
* clear vision without glasses - 1 meter / 3 feet
* clear vision with cheap disposable contacts - 500 meters / 1500 feet
* clear vision with glasses (correcting astigmatism) - 800 meters / 2500 feet

Have I ever lost contact lenses? Yes. Twice in in bathrooms, trying to put them in or take them out. Once in a shower at a waterpark. Once rubbing my eye when skiing. Never on a roller coaster, not even in the front seat of Kingda Ka (206 km/h / 128 mph).

I prefer riding with my contacts. I always worry about losing my glasses! And yes, she can swim with contacts. Just be careful with getting water in her eyes as that can pop a contact loose. I almost lost one in the wave pool area at Typhoon Lagoon when I got hit in the face with a wave. If they're disposable contacts bring an extra pair or two.

I wear soft disposable contact lenses (good for 2 months use) and I'm no expert about it, but I know I was instructed to take them out if I'm going to be swimming.

i've always worn contacts, and i've always been fine! my eyes water on RnR a little bit, but that's no big deal. i've even worn them to the water parks (and have done summit plummet with them in :scared1:) and i've been fine. of course, though, my eyes were squeezed tight shut going down the plummet- there was no way the contacts were getting out! :lmao:

I wear my contacts on rides and when swimming. No problems with either.

I have astigmatism and wear contacts. Mine are disposable toric lenses-they are good for 2 weeks. You get 6 pairs and it costs about 80 dollars. I use a system that disinfects them really well, so I can usually get an extra week out of them. I also have never had them pop out on a ride.

I have been wearing contacts for 30 years. Never had a problem at disney but as others said bring some rewetting drops with you and I would also suggest an extra set of lenses in your first aid kit or backpack. Better to be safe should she have a problem with one.

I wear disposables and I have a set in my purse, my car, my Disney backpack.

I promised my DD11 that I would ask this. Will my DD be ok wearing contacts when she is on thrill rides like RNR, EE, SM, and BTMRR?

I know nothing about contacts as I don't even wear glasses, so I'm at the mercy of those in the 'know'.
TIA!

I have never had a problem at all and I have been on much "rougher" and bigger thrill rides than RNRC and SM. She has nothing to worry about. For peace of mind, you might want to just bring an extra pair with you in the parks (just in case).

Have worn both soft and hard contacts, for more than 30 years, on many a thrill ride and I have never lost one yet.

I have never worn them swimming without goggles though, and don't think I ever will.

Never had a problem on a ride either. Plus I like being able to see while on the ride :cool2::3dglasses

I've never had a problem with my lenses on a ride, especially since you're going so darn fast and jumping around, you tend to blink more often! Blinking will hold those little guys in there!

Agree with the posts on the water rides though. If you go on Splash Mountain (not really a problem) or Kali River Rapids (more likely a problem) you could run into the possibility of getting water in there. But even still - I won't let my lenses stop me from riding or getting drenched. Pack the glasses as a backup.:cool1:

She'll be fine. Just e-n-j-o-y!

Can you swim with contacts in? She's always taken hers out to swim. We're both in the still learning stage. She just got contacts last December. She's really responsible :)

We do plan on bringing a spare pair of contacts too. They just rip too easily.

Actually, I use the "daily wear" .... I just don't take them out daily. :lmao: Seriously, I've used contacts now for over 20 years. I started out diligently taking them out every night to soak but, years later, after a few nights of falling asleep before I took them out... meh... now I just leave them in for a few weeks until they feel grainy then I take them out and get them soaking while I wear another pair for a few weeks. My 6 month supply of contacts usually lasts about 14 months. This is just what I do and I don't suggest a new contact wearer attempt my bad habits. :)

But as far as swimming, oh heck yes, I've swum in the ocean as well as pools while wearing my contacts. I haven't lost one yet in any body of water or on any ride (and I've gone on all of the coasters at Disney). Strangely enough, I have lost a few (3 or 4 over the 20+ years) while rubbing my eyes. :confused3

Given all of this, I would suggest talking with your dd's eye Dr. about what activities are ok and what should be avoided specific to your DD's eyes, prescription, and lenses.

Good luck to your DD with her contacts. My DS is talking about trying them again - he tried a few years ago but had a hard time getting them in his eyes and he gave up. It's definitely a procedure that requires patience and practice but, once you get used to it, it gets to be effortless.

She'll be fine on the rides. I wear contacts and were okay on all of those. I would warn her to wear goggles if you are going to a water park. I didn't wear mine the first time on Crush 'n Gusher and nearly my contacts! Have a good trip :)

I wear contact lenses and the only ride that worries me is Test Track. It's probably for no good reason but I make it a point to squint and look straight ahead on the outdoor portion.

DS wears glasses and we've had a lot more trouble with them! He takes them off for RnR Coaster and Test Track and he lost a pair on Universal's Mummy ride.

I also use daily wear contacts, toric for the astigmatism. They are described as 2 week contacts and the doctor told me most people wear them for a month. I don't sleep in them as my eyes do get dried out by the end of the night. I take them out and soak them overnight, then clean them briefly in the morning and put them back in. I wear them for months and months as well. I bought this pack of 6 in December of 2008 and I have 1 more pair left.

I had always thought the problem of swimming with contacts was losing them. Well, I would just keep my eyes closed, but.... I recently read that the reason is chlorinated water getting trapped between the contact and the eye. The chlorine can clog up the pores in the contacts that allow it to breathe and damage the eye.

I wear my contacts from 5 am until about 11 pm every day. I change them out about every 3-4 months, but have used my last pair for 6 months before tossing them.
