Cont north wing

Okay, it's just a request. That's what I thought. Okay.

I wouldn't read too much into them accepting a request. They still might not know whether or not the North Wing will be open or not, it just being a request and all.

Right now we don't know when the NGW will be complete. Right now they are working on some hurricane damage and once they are done with that, NGW will be renovated just as south wing was.

Also I have some NGW pictures from my CR trip a few weeks ago, I will get them posted soon.

We had requested a North Wing room, arriving the day before the North Wing was scheduled to close. We stayed in the North Wing that one night, and were upgrade to Bay Lake Tower for the rest of the stay. It was great!

Or maybe not.

Someone on the DVC forums uncovered a permit for the water district with info on the demolition of the North wing and construction of Contemporary Suites for DVC.:confused3

I think it is both - right now they are rehab the NW - but in several years (might be as few as 5 or as much as 10) - there may be a DVC. the orginally plan was for the DVC to go into the tennis court - well it is closed.

although the plans we saw wouldn't work - this DVC would be besides the North wing not replacing it. So no direct connection to the fourth floor on the Cont tower.

of course who knows how popular the CR will be in 10 years.

Pat, did you read the thread on the DVC Miscellaneous board? It talks about the demolition of the North wing for the construction of a new building and for more parking.

yes but until that building is leveled - it could still be in rehab. if the Cont gets enough request for it. Then forgot it for DVC at least for now.

Beside DVC is currently working on AKV.

oh yes, I remember when they had BWV, VB, HH - at one time. WL & BCV were done close to the same time, too.

the Cont instead of getting almost no return guests - is having popularity it hasn't seem since the 70's.

So as much as I would like it to become a DVC resort - I can't see WDW giving up a hot resort - at least not until it isn't hot anymore.

I do believe that the Cont will become a DVC resort - just not as soon as I want it to be.

besides I still want to know about the tennis court - if they put the DVC there it won't be as great - but hey it would be sooner!!!!!:woohoo: :yay: but this would not in the north wing.

of course everyone could be surprised. the new rehab at the Cont is unlike anything that hotel has ever done before. It definitely looks like something DVC would come up with - and maybe DVC helped paid for it - in return DVC gets the north wing.... :dance3: (okay this is just me hoping more than facts).

DVC can't announce anything because of the Florida's laws about timeshares - until 30% (??? - might be less) is done.

however that say - if the North wing is torn down - I am really hoping for a DVC....

Here's a link to a thread on the rumors & news board: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1325563

WDW filed requests on 11/6/06 for the demolition of the north wing and construction of the "Contemporary Suites DVC". The blue prints clearly show the C-shaped tower whose images leaked onto the net several months ago. The blue prints also show two tennis courts to the north of the DVC building. It certainly appears to me that the Contemporary DVC is about to happen.

Many folks weren't convinced that that rumored changes to the 4th floor Grand Canyon Concourse would ever happen. However, construction walls recently went up around the Fantasia Store for its conversion to the "Contemporary Games" Arcade. The construction started not long after Disney received approvals for the construction permit.

I was just told by staff at the CR that it will be torn down and it will be DVC the tennis courts were torn up when I was there on jan8-12 they also said chef mickey will be expanded and a walkway enclosed will be made from the north wing to the 4th floor monorail she said it will be 15 stories she said this was no rumor also so many projects going on with the stores and game room

The tennis courts are closed, the parking lot is closed, and there are permits for construction at the site of the north wing. It sounds like more than just rehab to me. They didn't need to close the parking lot when they rehabbed the south wing.

My guess is that AKV were announced first since they plan on having the top two floors of the resort converted into DVC units. That's not as big a construction job as tearing down the north wing and building a muti story building in its place. They can start selling AKV points long before CRV is finishes, like next year. The second phase of AKV is a building separate from the existing AK resort and will take longer to build as well.

the parking lot is closed
For the record only part of the North Garden Wing parking lot is closed. It's mainly the spaces around the middle, however every other parking space there is open. I should know that since my family & I were at the Contemporary last month to see all of this.

I guess I am in the minority because I do not want the contemporary to become a DVC. I like the structure the way it is now and has always been, I just think with a wing on one side and a big tower on the other it will seem unbalanced. Just my two cents:sad:.

Its gonna be a DVC and thats that , tennis courts are gone , wing is being stripped clean for demo. Tear it down. yea baby

I'm confused: Can you book a specific Garden Wing?

See, I didn't think you could BOOK one or the other, either.

You can REQUEST one or the other, I think. I'm not sure, if there WAS something forthcoming, that someone at CRO would refuse to note a request in fear of "giving something away".

Anyone have more info on this? I know when we've booked there in the past, it's always been a request, not a confirmed booking...but maybe somethings changed or there is a different way to do things/booking category we didn't know about.

In any event, there are also some permits filed concerning the Contemp (not just the demo permits found earlier) and discussion of those permits, taking place over in the DVC-Mousellaneous area.

Edit: Upon finishing the thread, I now see it WAS a request.

Also something interesting...there have been no permits found for rehab of the NGW....only the demo and buildout of the new facility.

I agree, no you can only request to be in a certain building. I've stayed at CR-standard room twice now and both times I requested North Wing and both times I got South Wing (the second time while it was being refurbished and they kept a section of the building open to rent out--not a great view to say the least). So the OP probably has a request in. I'm still hoping for a CR DVC myself and would line up to buy points for that one, until then, I'll keep saving my pennies and using my SSR and BWV points.

I'm pretty sure that we'll know definitively what's going on with the North Wing long before a typical agent at CRO would know. They'll take requests until it is clear (to us) that the North Wing is going DVC for sure; and will almost surely still take requests for the North Wing even after we're sure that it will be undergoing rehab at the time. Like I said, rehab is not necessarily a basis for them to stop taking requests, since they're just requests.

Exactly.

I was thinking that, too....but figured it was best left unspoken (that we tend to know more than Disney's front line employees on a whole host of things)....because, if we use THAT as reasoning (since we know it's true) we pretty much kabosh the OP's whole question/thread in the first place.

I figured best to start from the "even if they know what we've heard/know" platform...

:)

I REALLY hope they do not build the DVC at the CR because if there is a DVC on the monorail ....I am going to have to rob a bank to buy in to DVC:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
