Driving straight down, leaving Christmas afternoon and planning on taking 57/24/75...Anyone have any idea if there is construction going on??

Came back that route middle Nov. Not much contruction going on if any. However on I-75 south of atlanta there are large stretches of lower speed limit postings. Mostly 60 MPH.

Beware holiday traffic. One year I drove that route during christmas and it was impossible from atlanta to fla border. The joke in the car was when someone at the border put on their brakes everyone up to atlanta had to put their brakes on too.

Everytime I traveled down at christmas construction was halted.

You think traffic will be bad Christmas night and into the morning hours of the 26th???

my DH and I left last year on christmas night right about 6:00 pm the only problem we had since weather was good and there was very little traffic was that most of the GAS Stations were closed so we ended up getting a hotel which wasn't easy most were closed and got up rested and had no problems the rest of the way down

Look on the right, under "Road Condition Reports" then click "Current Road Construction" for an interactive map of construction projects in the state. There are also links to other states sites under that section as well.

This page also has links to winter weather road conditions.

Hi fellow Illinoisian!

We are about 5 miles off of I-57 exit 54 (Marion)...I can tell you that from the I-64/I-57 interchange south to I-24 is basically smooth sailing...was just on that stretch Tuesday before Thanksgiving. From the beginning of I-24 to Paducah is pretty good, too...you might find a minimal amount of construction, but nothing that will slow you down terribly...was on that road about 2 weeks ago. I've heard from our AAA office and the hotel we're staying at in Nashville in 3 weeks that Nashville is still pretty torn up. We usually take the Briley Parkway around the city...our hotel is right near the airport so we thought we'd take the same route...the hotel rep said to avoid Briley Parkway. So, how bad it is there I can't say, but you might want to check with some place for info about Nashville...AAA if you're a member of try to find the TN DOT website...google search ought to find it.

Hope this helps! Have a great trip!!

Good info everyone, sounds like traffic will be light, but the gas stations being closed is cause for a little concern..

Plan your stops for exits with Flying J's or Pilot Truck stops-they never close. Check each company's website for locations before leaving. I believe there are Flying J's at exit 201 and 2? in GA.

You will be driving during off hours-we had problems both south and northbound about 25 miles south of Atlanta-both times were Friday nights around 10:00-just about a 30 minute delay each time.
