Does anyone suffer from constant pectoral pain.

Believe me, I've had my heart checked numerous times to find nothing..

I have constant pain in my left upper pec that goes down thru the breast bone, under the armpit thru the upper back shoulder blade.

I've had 2 sugeries on this shoulder and it's kills me everyday.

I found out that I do sleep with my arm crunched underneath the pillow while I sleep on my side, it's habit I guess... Sometimes the pain is so bad I awake with pins and needs down my arm. My right arm does it too --- could it be neck related?

I'm at my wits end, sometimes it's so bad while driving the car and I have to switch hands.

Hi there.

I'm sorry to hear this is causing you so much trouble. Unfortunately shoulders, due to the complexity of the joint, once damaged are never quite the same again.

I have just recovered from a C-8 (neck) nerve route injury, which caused me to have constant right anterior shoulder pain, with pins and needles and numbness down my right arm, which was made worse by driving, or indeed by anything which involved holding my right arm out in front of me. I was also unable to lift anything substantial.

The only answer for me was physiotherapy, and pain killers. Good luck.

Like the previous poster said, sadly once it's damaged it's hard to get it right again, 100%. And, the shoulder/pectoral region is so complicated, pinning down a cause for the pain can be tough for a doctor! It could range from pinced nerves to muscle tears/muscle strains, to bone calcifications, to joint degeneration. I know you said you've had your heart checked, have you had any MRI's? That could give them a good view of what is going on and at least rule some things out. My husband and my BIL both have had pectoral and shoulder pain. LOTS of treatment, LOTS of money, LOTS of discomfort, but, they both got to the bottom of it and are now doing much better.

In my DH's case, he had a pinched nerve running along the back of his neck and down his shoulder, the pain was deferred to his pectoral muscles. Once the pinched nerve relaxed and he went through some physical therapy he has made nearly a 100% recovery.

In my BIL's case, his rotator needed repairing, that pain was in his shoulder and a lot of it was deferred to his pectoral muscles.

I hope you're able to get to the bottom of it. It can be frustrating. Just remember that deferred pain is common in the shoulder/pectoral area, it can be originating from a different area but that is where you're feeling it.

I did not have rotor cuff problems, but thought I did. Went through physical therapy and they thought maybe problem was neck. Had MRI of both shoulder and neck. Shoulder was fine except for some arthritis. Neck was degenerating and had three discs removed and metal plating/screws put in. Helped with the upper arm tingling and pain. Maybe something to look into with your problem.

I agree with everyone else. DH had right shoulder, arm and hand pain. Tingling in arm and hand at times. He had a MRI of the neck and it showed bones spurs on two different spots and a protruding dish in C5. He has started therapy now and actually can tell a difference.:)
