Constance invited to "fake prom"

Wow.. that's all I can say. My partner is in district admin. for a school district here and I can only imagine what this district has now opened themselves up to with this bone headed move. I feel so bad for Constance and the other students that weren't "good enough" for the real event.

I don't even know what to say. It's outrageous. I wonder how many who planned this fake and real prom consider themselves Christians and if they really feel that God would approve of this.

I'm a straight mom of two kids, a girl, 7 and a boy, 5. I have no idea who they will love; you're born however you are born. I teach them now and have from when they were even younger about all kinds of families. Both of them are adopted and Chinese so it always fits in well with our family story. We openly talk about gay couples and their children like we were speaking about any other family. We also teach them to believe otherwise is unfair and mean. I'd have a fit if my children participated in anything so discriminatory at the very least. It's not about tollerance, its about acceptance.

I find that when certain people start hollering about rights, its usually at the expense of people who truly have limited rights or none at all.

Like others, all I can say is WoW!! I don't know why but this just made my blood boil. I'm not upset. I'm angry. And not just angry, we're talking wishing there had been a reenactment of the movie "Carrie."

agreed i believe they are truly scared. What of i'm not sure . Denial can be a strong motivator in this type of activity.

As I mentioned in another thread, I don't think the school district will be held liable at all. The way they perpetrate this injustice is by saying it's not a school function. Rather, they put the onus on the parents to throw their own prom, and it being a private function, they can invite (or not invite) whomever they want. These people disgust me. I'm sure life has something special in store for them. I honestly don't understand all the hatred.

This just pisses me off. I'd like to slap those idiots sideways. How dare they do this to not only Constance but the to those other kids as well? I'd so get banned if I posted what I really want to express.
Wonder what happened with Sean Cummings? He owns a couple of hotels in New Orleans and said he'd bus kids from the MS. school to his hotel for a free of charge prom. Guess the school board in MS didn't go for it.
I thought I was beyond being flabbergasted but dang.

You know, I have to say that what really stuck with me out of all of that hatefulness and ugliness was the absolute beauty of Constance. I was so angry when I started reading and even more angry when I realized that they just invited whom they considered the disposable rejects - the learning disabled, gay, etc. to this prom. And then I read what Constance said about them all having the time of their lives because no one was there to make fun of them. It made me cry. To be able to have this strength, courage and generosity of spirit as a teenager is astounding. What an amazing young woman she is  I hope my children have that same strength and courage - she is an inspiration.

That. Is. APPALLING!!!!!

Every single teacher and administrator who helped perpetuate the "fake prom" for Constance and the "special" kids should lose their certifications and their jobs!

And the parents! I'm trying to think what they deserve for their hand in this. Tarring and feathering them seems to be a little to light of a punishment.

:headache::headache::headache:

Seriously! People wonder why gay and lesbian teens have suicide rates so much higher than normal teens? Here's a prime example. They're not only bullied by their peers, but by the educational system as well!

I am SO MAD! :furious:

Hi everyone!
I don't usually post here but I saw the title and had to share a link that a very dear friend sent to me. I agree that this was just appalling and those who think they did the right thing will have karma rear its head at them. Hopefully it does a full turn and bites them on the tooka's.:rolleyes1

Human Rights Campaign petition - if you would like to express your feelings regarding this:

What a way to teach your kids - Epic failure on their part!

I think I would rather be at the "fake prom" than at the "real prom" with those jerks!! :sad2: The "fake prom" crowd would have been more fun to be with!!:cool1:

I saw this girl on Ellen and was amazed by her story, just last week my Mom had told me that she was going to be allowed to go to prom and I was so excited for her!

I then come on here and see this, click on the link and just could not believe what I was reading. I am still sitting here in tears over this. What is our world coming to? I wish there was something I could do for this girl.

wow, what year is this? Seems like something that would have happened in the 50s, not now.

You my dear, are ALWAYS welcomed on our board. :hug:Thank you SO much for your comment. Your right, as parents we have NO idea who our children will end up loving. It's our job to love them & nurture them.

Sadly, her school failed her.:sad2: This will stick with her for a long time. The upside is she seems like an AMAZING young person and I have no doubts she will rise above this and go on to do AMAZING things. :thumbsup2

I think they deserve a paddling. ;)

And I don't think any of those people who perpetrate hatred against gays/lesbians really care if the suicide rate is higher. :(

There was a huge case in RI many years ago...a young man wanted to take his partner to the prom. I just googled it and can't believe it's been 30 years! It's so shocking to think that this can happen anywhere in the United States (but I guess if "paddling" is OK...) in 2010. Absolutely despicable.

Here's the Adam Fricke (Cumberland RI) story.
