Hi
I am cleaning out my closet getting rid of "fat clothes".
Some of them are really nice things. Has anyone had experiences with consignment shops?
I have heard most things need to be newly dry -cleaned- is it worth the expense?
Is the money worth the trouble? I don't want to go through this if I am just going to get a couple of bucks. I will just give them to goodwill if that is the case.

Thanks!

I would check with your local shops to see their rules. I have consigned a lot of things over the years and I have never had to dry clean anything. I just had to make sure things were clean and free of stains, tears or holes.

Good luck.

You might also try eBay, if you have an account with them. You'd be able to set your own price, and probably make a little more than you would with a consignment shop.

:)

i've actually done both -- ebay and consignment. Ebay for me took too much time and several times I had kids clothing listed that didn't sell. then I paid fees and the auction was a bust. I did make a little off a couple really nice outfits, but normal type stuff I didn't have great luck with. Maybe I wasn't a good 'salesperson' though either, it's not natural for me.

Consigning on the other hand brought me about $80-90 in the past five or so month. That's for my stuff and my two DDs. The store here is very very particular, no stains, tears, etc. If they found a stain and I was able to get it out, then they took it. They rarely rejected anything just based on the style. I never dry cleaned anything. For me it's easy, I literally drop the clothes off, they call if there are items rejected and then I either donate unsold clothing or have them call me to pick back up, sellers preference.

Most of my money I spend on new things there. I have bought jeans, jean shorts, swimsuit, and they have new jewelry too.
