I am coming off a crazy 9 months with 4 surgeries but finally getting past most of the physical aspect except the fatigue and special diets.

I am considering a short trip with my daughter to my favorite place to recharge my batteries, take it slow and refill my pixie dust.

I would probably need some type of electric wheelchair for the 3 days and help planning meals. (I am still on a baby/toddler food diet for another 2 months or so.)

Am I crazy or just sad enough to want to see some Disney joy?

I would of course get doctor approval before attempting this and take it very slow but I really want to get away to my favorite place.

I will also need to be taking some of my own food to make sure I can eat. Is that going to be a problem if I am hauling around packs of Boost and such?

If you can do it without undue risk if a setback then why not, getting a "recharge" emotionally is just as important as anything the doctors can do at this point.

It is a short trip so consider a 1br villa at BLT, BCV or BWV so you can take a mid day break and have all the amenities of home.

Just do not push.

Don't know all the details, but I think it would be better to wait the few extra months out and then go if that's what you want to do.

With child you need all the strength you can muster up.

If your doctor is okay with it, I can't see a reason why you shouldn't. I'd suggest taking it slow, but it sounds like you were planning that already.

How old is your daughter? The one big problem I could see is if she's really little; you cannot have someone ride on your lap on an ECV (it's in all the rental agreements and against park rules as well). As long as she can get around the park on her own, though, I don't see an issue.

As far as getting around, it sounds like you'd need an ECV (scooter). You might want to check out the FAQ for the list of off-site rental companies that posters here have liked. A couple also rent powerchairs, but generally they require you to already use one at home as powerchairs are harder to use than an ECV.

For food you're allowed to bring food into the park. I think the only rule is no glass bottles and no alcohol, but someone who pays more attention to that than I can confirm. You definitely would be able to bring in baby food and Boost.

If doc okays I would go, the healing power of your happyplace has been seen in wish kids and many others.

Since you know not to over-do, next look at the support system you need to go there for healing.

When you say baby food do you mean jarred infant foods, soft food, blender/liquid drinks or medical formulas? DD has PKU and we bring her foods and formula with us when we travel. Most places are great about understanding medical food but like all things there are exceptions(mostly by those who do not understand.

We are also deciding the are we going to Disney or not issue ourselves, our traveling friends can not go with us.My doc offered us a support I had not expected, a medical travel companion. Since we use home healthcare and the agentcy we use has services in Orlando he is willing to write an order for services there, and for going with us on the way there. We are thinking this might be the answer to being able to go. We had consitered paying for an in park sitter to push youngest in a stroller.

Discuss with your doc what else your doc thinks you need or might need.

My daughter is 11 and one of my biggest caretakers lately. She would be a be help but it would also be a treat for her. I have been reading a lot of this board and learning a lot - you have great experiences to share!

I will let you know what I decide and when I go!

Thanks.
