I go to WDW frequently but the last time i stayed at FW was a kid with my GS troop in the mid 70's. I will to traveling alone with 2 kids 4 and 5 who tend to fall asleep on the drive out of the parks so I usually don't take Disney transportation. I strap them into their car seats and use my stroller to wheel them back to the room. Usually works pretty well.

Will I be able to enter and leave FW like this and park at our cabin? Would it be better to rent a golf cart?

Yes. You're not supposed to use your car to drive from place to place within FW, but you can definitely drive from your site or cabin to the parks and back.

The wilderness cabins will be great for you. You can park directly in front of your door so the access to car is easy. We rented a golf cart and it is a great way to get around the campgrounds. We drive to the theme parks which is much easier than waiting for a bus.
Have fun!
