Hi. We are considering taking the Magic Cruise leaving Barcelona in late August. Any thoughts on the Disney Mediterranean cruise? We would love to take the longer one, but alas, no time this summer. We would like room suggestions as well. I'm a sucker for a view.

If you took any version of this cruise and have some feedback about any aspect of it, please chime in.

We loved our Med cruise in 2010. We did a 10 night cruise, and it was very busy (only 2 sea days). One note - if you're interested in seeing Europe, a cruise isn't really the way to do it, as you primarily hit the edges of a limited number of countries. But, for a taste it's great.

Excursions to Rome, and Pisa required a long bus ride to/from the ship.

I live in Europe I have taken a few Med cruises on DCL and other lines. What's great you see a lot of places. Europe is vast, you could spend two weeks in one place, and we have! But on a cruise thry move you on every night to a wonderful new place every night. Whilst your asleep it's like the hotel moves location. Distances can be vast or little but cultures chsnge from France to Italy to Spain. You get a taster but that's great, you come back to an air conditioned ship and relax with food and a show.

There are places near and far, so you choose what trip you do, an hour drive or ten minutes, we have always booked private tours to get going quicker, no meet up on the ship and herding in groups, faster travel in a car not a speed limit coach, and go where we want stop and move on when we want.

The Med and Europe us fantastic, so fir a first time get a cruise sample each place if you like it go back, IE I have stayed in Barcelona, or Sorrento, or Greece for two weeks, but I also enjoy a day there on a cruise.

Without a cruise travel is by land, can be very long and in summer very hot and annoying, driving long distances and eating into the time you gave.

A verandah is best, the sun and shade just lazing about in your private space on a wonderful sea day with the blue seas around and room service.

Look at my trip report, http://mickeymed.blogspot.co.uk/ lots of photos navigators details of private tours and information on hotels.

Piza is just an hour from port, Rome an hour by private van, Florence one hour fifteen, it's not a lot, and wonderful places. We have done, 12 night, 11 night on DCL and 14 night on other lines and would go again and again.

Florence is well inland and doable Rome is,easy on freeways, and Sorrento and Monte Carlo wonderful stops, we have been right up to 2014 with 2015 in the Baltic.

I can visualise now sailing into Naples and the sunshine on Vesuvius and the buildings clinging to the land on the sea front. Or the vibrant colours of food in a French market, or a hillside restaurant will local food clinging to a mountainside, to Italian mountains that look snow capped, but it's granite mines.

In summary, sun, sand, relaxing and/ or historic sightseeing and arts and culture. A cruise there is a mind blowing experience. Go for it.

We did a 12 night MED cruise in 2014 and LOVED it!! It was a fantastic way to see many different places while only unpacking once and traveling while you sleep. Each morning waking up somewhere new was fantastic! We stayed in a room with a verandah on deck seven. We really enjoyed the verandah. We used it quite a lot in the mornings and evenings. Good luck with your decision.

Agree.

We are on the Magic this year on 27th August for the 7 night cruise from Barcelona. Really looking forward to visiting some new places! Its also such a bonus to us in the UK that its only a 2 hour flight to Barcelona! :goodvibes

The 10 day Med was our first cruise. Loved it! Book a verandah mid ship. The Med gets rough storms at night and forward and aft get pretty rocky! Worse than any ocean cruise I ever took.

We had no problems with forward cabin in 2010, the first night was so rough the closet doors were sliding open and shut. Several people missed the ship in Barcelona due to the volcano in Iceland. For MED and Greek Islands we booked verandas and were very happy we did, lots of opportunity for sitting out and viewing sights in port and arriving and leaving. We were on the longer cruise so we had an additional sea day that was absolutely beautiful, sea was dead calm and weather was so good we were out on the veranda almost every minute we were not on deck or at an activity.
