Hi. We are considering taking the Magic Cruise leaving Barcelona in late August. Any thoughts on the Disney Mediterranean cruise? We would love to take the longer one, but alas, no time this summer. We would like room suggestions as well. I'm a sucker for a view.
If you took any version of this cruise and have some feedback about any aspect of it, please chime in.
I live in Europe I have taken a few Med cruises on
DCL and other lines. What's great you see a lot of places. Europe is vast, you could spend two weeks in one place, and we have! But on a cruise thry move you on every night to a wonderful new place every night. Whilst your asleep it's like the hotel moves location. Distances can be vast or little but cultures chsnge from France to Italy to Spain. You get a taster but that's great, you come back to an air conditioned ship and relax with food and a show.
There are places near and far, so you choose what trip you do, an hour drive or ten minutes, we have always booked private tours to get going quicker, no meet up on the ship and herding in groups, faster travel in a car not a speed limit coach, and go where we want stop and move on when we want.
The Med and Europe us fantastic, so fir a first time get a cruise sample each place if you like it go back, IE I have stayed in Barcelona, or Sorrento, or Greece for two weeks, but I also enjoy a day there on a cruise.
Without a cruise travel is by land, can be very long and in summer very hot and annoying, driving long distances and eating into the time you gave.
A verandah is best, the sun and shade just lazing about in your private space on a wonderful sea day with the blue seas around and room service.
Look at my trip report,
http://mickeymed.blogspot.co.uk/ lots of photos navigators details of private tours and information on hotels.
Piza is just an hour from port, Rome an hour by private van, Florence one hour fifteen, it's not a lot, and wonderful places. We have done, 12 night, 11 night on DCL and 14 night on other lines and would go again and again.
Florence is well inland and doable Rome is,easy on freeways, and Sorrento and Monte Carlo wonderful stops, we have been right up to 2014 with 2015 in the Baltic.
I can visualise now sailing into Naples and the sunshine on Vesuvius and the buildings clinging to the land on the sea front. Or the vibrant colours of food in a French market, or a hillside restaurant will local food clinging to a mountainside, to Italian mountains that look snow capped, but it's granite mines.
In summary, sun, sand, relaxing and/ or historic sightseeing and arts and culture. A cruise there is a mind blowing experience. Go for it.
