Considering 200 points at Vero Beach as addition to my 200 at Copper Creek (direct). Anyone with experience doing something similar......

I understand the maintenance fees tend to be higher at Vero. I am more concerned with being able to use the extra points @ 7 months in WDW.

Looking to have same use year so I can pool the points at 7 months. So far, we usually book at 5-6 months out, so this seems to be a no brainer right? What am I missing?

Was thinking the of doing the same thing based on price per point. I would do the math on the maintenance to see if SSR has a better long term value.

It would be a no brainer if there was availability, however it has become increasingly more difficult to book at 7 months, though not impossible. Flexibility is the key here. If you are not locked into certain dates, resorts and villa sizes you will be better off. With the news last Friday regarding borrowing, there will be even more people competing for fewer rooms. It's kind of risky...honestly may be you can pick up a smaller, loaded OKW and know you are always on property. Prices are dropping and should be much lower in a few months IMO. Good luck, I'm "shopping" too!

There is about to be a huge glut of points in the system from now 10 weeks (and presumably more to come) of the resorts being closed. Everyone is banking those points. Even if WDW reopens in June that's still a huge glut of points banking into 2021, and Aulani and VGC will continue to add points to that glut for the foreseeable future. Things will become tremendously difficult to book even at 11 months let alone 7 months, even at previously easy-to-get times of the year.

WDW will likely be fully booked by 10 months for most if not all of 2021 and 2022. And this will continue with people who find themselves locked out banking their points and causing a glut in the next year unless Disney changes the banking rules.

Personally I'd not recommend buying VB unless you want to spend all of your points at VB. If you want a resale contract cheap I'd make a lowball offer at OKW.

Thanks for the feed back everyone.

I feel a little guilty because the covid issue has been very positive for me, where it has been devastating for so many others. But I have been wanting to add to my contracts for a while now. I missed the boat on buying resale in 2008-09, when the contracts were low and plenty. I don't plan on missing out this time.
I think I will look for an Old Key West or Saratoga to supplement my points. To be on property as someone said.

But if other resorts start to come up for sale at lower prices, may jump on that. I think people will start to hit "rock bottom" mid may, and that is when the low hanging fruit will be ready to pick.

I confess I've done the math on this as well, and debated adding on to VB if the prices drop lower. But I worry about the long term impact on dues at VB due to climate change / hurricanes. That said, one question I couldn't seem to find a good answer is how hard it is (or not) to book VB at 7 months. Like, do you need to be an owner to book the 3 BR cottages? I could see our family doing some beach time every 2-3 years, for example. But I do worry that VB points just won't be as useful at 7 months as we would want.

You might be able to use those VB points in early May, late January, summer other than July 4th, but many other times of the year it may be very difficult. I'm with BillPA on this one. Unless you plan to use those points at VB often, you may be disappointed. Buy SSR or BLT if you want WDW.

I've done the math a few times. It's roughly 16 to 18 years break even between SSR and VB. That's not too bad considering VB only has about 21 to 22 years remaining anyways.

The big issue for me would be on property availability in the next few years, and beyond depending on time of year.
