I have to admit that I like Barrack Obama though most of his political beliefs run afoul of my tastes. What I do not like is the attempt to deify this man and treat him as a savior. With the ridiculous countdowns and breathless anticipation of the inauguration it seems like the extreme left has lost their collective minds.
I find it interesting that there has been little discussion on the expense (especially to the taxpayers) of this inauguration and its surrounding activities. The figures for are:
Obama 2009: 150 million + (expected to exceed $160m)
Bush 2005: 42.3 million
Clinton 1993: 33 million
This inauguration will cost FOUR TIMES more than the 2005 affair. I think that this is irresponsible and arrogant on the part of the Obama Adminitration. He has already claimed that we are in an economic crisis. I would not be surprised if many on the left take the position that this will be a net benefit to the Washington economy. After all, isn't massive government spending their solution to a bad economy? (Someone ought to remind them that the massive goverment programs of the New Deal did nothing but create confusion and fear and a depression within a depression.)
Nevertheless, the American press has decided not to make this an issue, though the rest of the world seems to enjoy poking fun at the latest example of "American Excess."

Of course, I am certain that we will not see the media uproar as we did in 2005. Media outlets went out of their way (with justification) to bring the cost of 2005 inauguration to the attention of the American public.
