Conservative thread: We're still smiling!

You know - we're people too. We could be your neighbors, fellow workers, your kids' friends parents - whatever. Sludgepond? :confused3

We just have a difference of philosophy in governance.

Wishing you all a happy and peaceful 2009.

I think the criticism was in reference to the content of that thread, not the individual posters. In particular, terrorism humor is NOT funny. Never was. Never will be. It is disgusting. The ongoing "I made my terrorist breakfast this morning" jokes make my skin crawl. Who in the world thinks terrorism is funny? :confused3

I'm normally a blonde Tink but happen to be red right now. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the compliments on Robbie. He does have some of the cutest expressions, if I do say so myself. He's quite the character, too. Loves Mickey and Minnie. He gets thrilled seeing the pictures, believe it or not.

Dave Barry is one of my favorite authors. Very funny man. :rotfl:
I love your hair red. I know I haven't met you, but I can't picture you as a blond. I love the red hair. It really complements your skin tone. Robbie is a DOLL. I love his expressions too.

He's great! Too cute for words.

Tell me this isn't the cutest thing ever! These two are in love with each other.

We're still very much in honeymoon mode. We love him
Precious. I want one now.
Good freaking grief, I leave for a few days and poof! Y'all go talking crazy on me.

Hope everyone had good holidays. Mine were pretty good. I got a Wii and a Wii Fit, so I've been trying to play with that. But my best Christmas present was....

My neurosurgeon has agreed to go ahead with tumor removal! I'll be heading to Houston in February/March to have it done.  I get my surgery date next week. I'm so excited! :woohoo:
I am so happy for you, though I'd rather none of this be happening to you at all. Glad to hear good news for you!

One of DH's closest buddies is deploying probably next week for Afghanistan so please keep him in your thoughts. He's a single dad with a 3 yr old son so he's pretty torn about going. He wants to go, but doesn't want to leave his son.
Oh how sad. Who will be taking care of him?

Will keep him in our prayers. Where's the boy's mom? Will she have him?

We got a Wii and Wii Fit for Christmas; bought the Wii on craiglist and SIL gave us WiiFit. Really, really fun! :yay:

DH is going to be looking for another job soon. We're also talking about maybe him finding a different company to work for when we move to CA; right now he's not feeling any job security with this his current company.
His brother-in-Christ, Roy, is a manager for a cellphone service provider and has offered to help him get a job with that company. He'd make decent money. It's something we're praying about.
Prayers going up here too.

That's one of my biggest conundrums. Liberals always take this superior intellectual stance, but, ummmm…they're liberals — who support leftist politial policies, leftist political policies that have failed time and again. That's just not very intelligent. They think you can "talk" to terrorists. Not very intelligent. They think we'd be safer with no guns. Not very intelligent. They think the government can take more and more money from the producers, and give it to the non-producers, and that the producers will just keep on producing. Not very intelligent. They think Castro and Chavez and Che are really great guys. REALLY not intelligent. I just don't get it. It's a peculiar kind of intelligence, apparently, completely devoid of common sense. I've heard it called pseudo-intelligence. I don't know how liberal college professors espouse some of this stuff — when history is right there staring them in the face. I guess it's just ideology over intellect. Ideology trumps all — even reason — for some folks.
Yup.
I agree there is no value in namecalling. We all have friends and family members with varying philosophies and I am sure that fights are not breaking out every time a political disagreement arises. However, I take issue with your assertion (as it relates to the DIS Boards) that it is simply a difference in philosophy. Please understand that I do not take sides in the Democrat/Republican debate and do not wish to start a battle of philosophies. Libertarians like me (limited federal government, reduced taxes and spending, more individual rights - pro choice and supporter of gay rights, anti Iraq War) seem to have no party to go to.

With that said, I find the Liberal Thread to be one where there is no room for alternative viewpoints. What would happen if I dared to question your assertion that President Reagan made your life miserable because you had to work in college? What would happen if I questioned the wisdom of those who believe that Israel and President Bush are working together to make PE Obama's presidency more difficult by the recent attacks (I really could not believe that someone would actually post that)? It certainly seems that some of the more thoughtful posters have left the Liberal Thread and it has been reduced to a handful of "you are either with me or against me" cheerleaders. Perhaps I am wrong, but it appears that a few work behind the scenes to coordinate attacks.

Is the Lib Thread a "sludgepond?" I will not go that far, but you have to admit that the pool of posters is exceedingly small and the number of views very high. It tells me that very few care to participate, but many like to view the train wreck.
Great post. Welcome to the thread.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

I read the Parade insert in our Sunday newspaper and there was an article on the highs and lows of the campaign. All of the "highs" were Obama and all of the "lows" were McCain except one - McCain's concession speech was a high. Some of the stuff they printed wasn't even factually correct. I'd quote it for you, but I already put the paper in recycling, but it was about the Palin crowd yelling out "terrorist" and "kill him" which was disproven by the Secret Service. Of course that wasn't printed. Sad.

Hi everyone! Happy New Year. Hoping to get the tree down today and get out for awhile with my kids now that the snow is pretty much gone (other than the piles and large snowballs that were made to get the snow off the driveway).

Good freaking grief, I leave for a few days and poof! Y'all go talking crazy on me.

Welcome home, and I am SO glad to hear your news!

Ugh..... I had a whole new TR update post typed up when my laptop decided it was time to install updates on the computer.... computer shut down and guess what I have to RETYPE?? :headache:

That would be Vista, huh? That's why my husband hates Vista. That happened to him several times while he was filling out government stuff online that has to be completed all at once. If you log off it erases everything and you have to start over. It was looooong detailed security clearance stuff, and he was getting really mad at having to start over. He's a hunt and peck typist and it was torturous for him. About the third time it happened he wiped Vista off the computer and downgraded.

Hope everyone had a happy New Year.:) Just got back from a couple of glorious days at the beach.

Happy New Year to anyone who might be going out, or going to bed early! I would like to go see "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", or maybe "Valkrie". Has anyone heard anything about either?

We saw Valkyrie and thought it was really good. I wasn't terribly familiar with it, but recently saw a special on the History Channel. It enhanced the viewing immensly.

T&G, Robbie is too cute for words.:goodvibes

FFM, every boy should be lucky enough to have a loyal dog buddy.:thumbsup2

I wasn't going to comment since I never look at their thread, but if this is the sort of humor they partake in, then that is pretty pathetic.

Honugirl that is great news Too bad you have to go to Houston for it though. UGH. That place gives Texas a bad name. Dallas/Fort Worth is way nicer.

Hey now... most people wouldn't even be able to find Dallas on the map if it weren't for a certain 70s TV show ;)

I find it even more funny that those that supposedly are "of higher intellect" because they got said education are so sorely lacking in the common sense department. I don't have a college degree, but I think if I were to go toe-to-toe with any number of these yahoos I could more than hold my own. Sometimes the life experience you gain is worth far more than anything you can read in a book or be told by a professor.;)
I totally agree!

This is getting ridiculous...it is supposed to get down to -44 tonight...:sad1:

Well, on the plus side you don't need to worry about that pesky metric conversion for our Canadian lurkers! Negative forty is negative forty in both! :) (ok, so not a plus, but I'm trying to find one for you!)

Honu girl>> great news!!

Many great points made here today. Please keep me saying, "Yeah, what she/he said!"

I'm off to the hockey store, which I lovingly call the 400 dollar store. You'll hear the grumbling soon as I started last night. I KNOW where he is, we're with him all the time with traveling, his grades are good, he loves hockey, his friends are good... but WHY OH WHY does it have to cost so much?

Welcome, Sanchez! We have quite a few active posters with many of your same views.

There are times I really wish I could post here more often. I miss so much.

I have to agree with you there. I wouldn't call it a "sludgepond" either but I have seen many liberals use horrible language and closed minded behavior, and they justify it because they "fight for the rights of others", and the ones they are insulting "don't." That's what happened with Rick Warren, who is one of those people who does not deserve that type of criticism.

What context was that in? It doesn't absolve anything, but I want to know just how disgusted I should be. I try to avoid saying any sweeping statements about liberals, but I will say this. If they are so smart and college educated as they claim to be, then why didn't they learn manners? I've found that those with educations tend to be even more rude and pushy than those without. This is from a summer working at a very busy resort. Now I'm not saying that ALL liberals don't have manners. I've known some very nice ones. But some of the most vile things I have heard about other human beings have also come from liberals.

I have Vista and it works fine. However, that is the one thing that annoys me about it. Thankfully, it only restarts when the laptop is closed. I am also very low-maintenance in my computer usage, and I'm often content with anything. My roomate thinks Vista is the devil incarnate. Then again, she thinks the same thing about Macs.

Also, I am LOVING the dog pictures!! If only there were dogs who stayed puppies forever.

I wish I had an applause smiley right now!!!! Excellent post!! I particularly agree with that part I bolded. You said the things I'd love to say. Welcome to the thread!!:woohoo:

Did y'all hear about John Travolta's son Jet dying of a seizure? He was only 16. I couldn't believe it. My prayers are with the Travolta family today. Horrid way to start a new year.:sad1:

How is everyone else today??

Oh come on, I even cracked a terrorist joke over there. They are doing to make fun of conservatives who focused (in their eyes) solely on the Ayers connection. Since Obama was guilty by association, they are guilty in voting for him. Therein lies the joke.

I don't know of anyone who focused solely on the Ayers connection, but if focusing on that rocks their world, then they can go for it.:rotfl:

Stereotypes are the name of the game. It seemed in their eyes that Palin was the Ayers Cheerleader for the Straight Talk Express. Many conservatives they believe focused to much on the connection so solely was a wrong word to use.

Besides, I enjoy reading about the terrorists they are training.:upsidedow Good to know what to face in the future.:rotfl:

vista os: have you guys considered turning off the automatic update function on your system? or, you can choose a time for it to take place.

Hey --

Just popping in to say that, like Charade, I lurk on the Liberal Thread occasionally. And, like everyone else here, I scratched my head at some of their answers on why they decided to become liberals - one poster said that he/she believed that government was supposed to help everyone not just the wealthy. Huh? And I see, in their answers, how much their ideology differs from mine - and I guess those twains will never meet. Loco's summation was spot on as usual. The liberal ideology is idyllic rather than logical and has been tried again and again without success.

I will have to defend the libs on one point - about the terrorism thing. *ducking from the flames* On this thread, we had been talking about Gitmo closing, what will happen to the terrorists there and a comment was made here that the libs would probably want to adopt them. The libs saw that and took it on as their own - making jokes about their terrorist keeping them up at night, teaching manners to their terrorist, etc. I thought it was pretty funny - and took the humor at their laughing at us not at terrorism per se.

Oh, and about the pizza crust - roll the dough as thin as possible, which might be kinda hard because it's pretty springy. If it springy, it's nothing you've done - it's just your flour - something about the gluten [at least that's what Alton Brown says!]
