Ugh..... I had a whole new TR update post typed up when my laptop decided it was time to install updates on the computer.... computer shut down and guess what I have to RETYPE?? :headache:

Happy New Years, everyone!

Honugirl- I am so happy that they are going to do your surgery. What a relief!

Mahna- I meant to say that I love the new years pug in your siggy. So cute!

You know, I just really like this lady...

From Sarah Palin:

Palin also commented on her daughter and Johnston's new parenthood. Her daughter, Bristol, gave birth Saturday to Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston. The statement ended with Palin's preference to keep the baby a private, family matter.

"We are over the moon," she said about her new grandson.

"The road ahead for this young couple will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy," Palin said. "Bristol and Levi are committed to accomplish what millions of other young parents have accomplished, to provide a loving and secure environment for their child. They are both hard workers, they're very strong, and have faith they've made the right decision in setting aside their own interests to make this child their highest priority."

Palin added: "When Bristol and Levi first told us the shocking news that she was pregnant, to be honest, we all at first looked at the situation with some fear and a bit of despair. Isn't it just like God to turn those circumstances into such an amazing, joyful blessing when you ask Him to help you through?"

She is such a wonderful lady. Thanks for sharing that, Deb. :goodvibes

Will keep him in our prayers. Where's the boy's mom? Will she have him?

We got a Wii and Wii Fit for Christmas; bought the Wii on craiglist and SIL gave us WiiFit. Really, really fun! :yay:

DH is going to be looking for another job soon. We're also talking about maybe him finding a different company to work for when we move to CA; right now he's not feeling any job security with this his current company.
His brother-in-Christ, Roy, is a manager for a cellphone service provider and has offered to help him get a job with that company. He'd make decent money. It's something we're praying about.

We're hoping to get a Wii sometime next year. They look so fun. Please keep us posted on your dh.

Oh no! I hate it when my computer does that. :headache:

Such an amazing woman.:goodvibes She is my heroine. I adore Governor Palin. Thanks for the update Deb.

i must've been asleep for, oh...i dunno...several months, but where in ca will you be moving?
Well, we know southern CA (maybe in the valley?) but beyond that I'm not sure. Any ideas for good areas?

Wii Fits must have been THE gift this year - I've heard several people talking about them.

Goodness - lots of changes coming your way. You mentioned your DH being a pastor [I know he had been one at least] - is he interested in getting a church in CA, too?
Yes, he's a pastor. As for getting a church, that would be nice but I won't hold my breath. :rotfl: Are you referring to being an associate pastor (what he was) or senior pastor?
Honestly, though, we haven't asked our denomination. I'm sure if we did they'd help place him.
And the WiiFit is awesome but will kick your boo-tay.

Honugirl that is great news :) Too bad you have to go to Houston for it though. UGH. That place gives Texas a bad name. :) Dallas/Fort Worth is way nicer.

Been at work for about an hour and a half today so far. Went and worked out for 30 minutes of that, after I spent about 20 minutes doing all the work I have to do today. (Company put a gym in for us) I don't even know why we're open today. I'm going to get bombarded on Monday though. Read news for the rest of it. I'm pretty much done till the mail comes so I'm gonna go read Soarin's TR and do some "organization" stuff for my house. I figured I'd make a room-by-room list of things that need to be done. That way I can at least feel some sense of accomplishment when I can cross something (anything) off as done. I have so many projects ranging from very small (clean out under bathroom sink) to large (attempt to discover the garage floor) that I'll need the whole year to get them all done but hopefully I can get more done than last year. Not being pregnant should help in that department!

I'm on day 2 of no caffeine, as well, so hopefully my headaches won't be too terrible. I got off it once before for about 6 months and somehow got back into the habit of drinking cokes all day long. Trying to do less of that. It's hard when I sit right next to the breakroom at work for my floor and we have a fountain drink machine there so it's free. I'm munching on ice instead of downing my normal coke this morning.

How's everyone else doing???

Did I miss something? I was reading (can't help myself..) the liberal thread and pr-surfer mentioned something about a question as to what it means to be a liberal. Was there a poll or thread?

I find it funny that they complain about the government (Reagan specifically) taking away education funding so much so that (gasp!) they had to pay for it themselves.

You're a braver soul than I am to venture into that sludgepond....

I find it even more funny that those that supposedly are "of higher intellect" because they got said education are so sorely lacking in the common sense department. I don't have a college degree, but I think if I were to go toe-to-toe with any number of these yahoos I could more than hold my own. Sometimes the life experience you gain is worth far more than anything you can read in a book or be told by a professor.;)

That's one of my biggest conundrums. Liberals always take this superior intellectual stance, but, ummmm…they're liberals — who support leftist politial policies, leftist political policies that have failed time and again. That's just not very intelligent. They think you can "talk" to terrorists. Not very intelligent. They think we'd be safer with no guns. Not very intelligent. They think the government can take more and more money from the producers, and give it to the non-producers, and that the producers will just keep on producing. Not very intelligent. They think Castro and Chavez and Che are really great guys. REALLY not intelligent. I just don't get it. It's a peculiar kind of intelligence, apparently, completely devoid of common sense. I've heard it called pseudo-intelligence. I don't know how liberal college professors espouse some of this stuff — when history is right there staring them in the face. I guess it's just ideology over intellect. Ideology trumps all — even reason — for some folks.

I love, love, love my surgeon. He's adorable and LOVES hockey, so we've got something in common. I knew there was a reason I picked a guy who went to McGill. It wasn't just for his skillz

It's always a plus when you have an attractive surgeon! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Pizza dough, as requested:

5 cups of bread flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 envelope of active dry yeast [or 2 teaspoons]
1-3/4 cup of warm water
1 tablespoon of olive oil

Put the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl, mix well. Then add oil and water. Knead dough for 5-10 minutes, until dough pulls away from the sides. Form dough into ball then put into greased bowl covered with greased plastic wrap. Let rise for at least 1-1/2 hours. Punch down dough and divide into 4 parts. To freeze, wrap each part in plastic wrap then put all four parts into large freezer bag. Then you can just pull out what you need.

To make pizza, preheat oven to 450 degrees. Roll out dough onto a surface that is lightly covered with corn meal [keeps it from sticking], spread olive oil in a thin layer on rolled-out dough [makes the dough brown evenly], add your favorite toppings, slide into oven and bake for 8-10 minutes. Yummm....I love homemade pizza.

Thank you so much for this recipe! We've been buying the pre-made pizza dough, and my hubby has been dying to make his own. Can't wait to try it!:)

Tell me this isn't the cutest thing ever! These two are in love with each other.

We're still very much in honeymoon mode. We love him

Is Reagan a golden? I've missed so many posts that I'm not up to date right now. We have a golden, Winnie, and she's our second. She is such a good dog, and is a real sweetheart. Our first golden, Abbie, went to doggie heaven a little more than a year ago. She was twelve. We really miss her.:sad1: Those pics are so heartwarming and would make some great digi-scrapbook pages!:lovestruc

He's not completely laid off so that's good. But he still doesn't get to go back to work until the end of next week and they're still only giving them 32 hours. :headache:
So that's 2 1/2 weeks with no pay. He said he's going to get a temporary second job and maybe file for unemployment. :headache:

We're having homemade pulled barbeque beef sandwiches for dinner tonight. Yum yum!

Here's a photo of us at DL at Pixie Hollow, L to R:
Me, BIL Jon, DS Robbie, DH, and SIL Valorie. It rained for three hours that morning so my hair was just awful the rest of the day. Spent 20 mins fixing it and it was pointless. LOL

Sorry to hear about your DH's job, and hope everything turns out fine. Your baby is so cute!!! Those pics are priceless. Thanks for sharing!:lovestruc

JB alert. Can you post the quilt group info again please? I've searched back through many pages, but can't seem to find it. Thanks!:)

I totally agree...and for any libs lurking here, this is coming from someone with an M.Ed...I learned way more from being a mom than I ever did in college.

Pizza dough, as requested:

5 cups of bread flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 envelope of active dry yeast [or 2 teaspoons]
1-3/4 cup of warm water

I am making this tonight for dinner...I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks for sharing the recipe.:goodvibes

Well, we know southern CA (maybe in the valley?) but beyond that I'm not sure. Any ideas for good areas?

depends what you want to do for work. the bay area is popular because of its proximity to all sorts of great things to do and places to work, but it is crowded and very pricey in some areas. i moved to the central valley so i could move out of my tiny condo in san jose into a house, but the company i was working for went out of business the day before i moved in, so that now means a loooong commute.

my preferences would be in marin county or napa/sonoma area, but again it is likely the commute to work would be a bear. further south i love santa barbara (where i lived for several years), further south glendale, further south san diego. it all really depends on how you want to make a living and how far you are willing to drive.

i have been looking at homes in an area south of san jose (where my condo was) now that prices have dropped (morgan hill, gilroy); it is a bit more rural, still within commute distance to silicon valley, and a stone's throw from carmel and monterey.

the other thing to watch for is the mello-roos tax. in california we have proposition 13, which prevents property tax from changing during the time that you live in your home. mello-roos is an additional tax which can vary from year to year, has the potential to add thousands to your property tax bill, and will never, ever benefit you directly, so i'd recommend always asking if a home is in a mello-roos district.

so that was the long answer. the short answer is a question: how do you want to live and where do you want to work when you are here? :teeth:

hmmm...i guess that answers part of the "what does it mean to be liberal" question.

Yep, he's a golden. We fell in love with a golden named Shadow a few years ago when a friend of a friend brought him camping with us. He was the best dog I ever met. My kids were always terrified of big dogs but Shadow was so sweet and gentle, they just loved him. They played with him everyday for the whole trip. On our camping trip last year Shadow had a baby brother and he was equally wonderful. That's when we decided if we ever got a dog, it would be a golden. They are such beautiful, regal dogs. The name Reagan seemed to suit him perfectly :thumbsup2

I'm sorry for the loss of Abbie. :sad1: I'm only just beginning to see how much these dogs get into your heart.

You know - we're people too. We could be your neighbors, fellow workers, your kids' friends parents - whatever. Sludgepond? :confused3

We just have a difference of philosophy in governance.

Wishing you all a happy and peaceful 2009.

I agree there is no value in namecalling. We all have friends and family members with varying philosophies and I am sure that fights are not breaking out every time a political disagreement arises. However, I take issue with your assertion (as it relates to the DIS Boards) that it is simply a difference in philosophy. Please understand that I do not take sides in the Democrat/Republican debate and do not wish to start a battle of philosophies. Libertarians like me (limited federal government, reduced taxes and spending, more individual rights - pro choice and supporter of gay rights, anti Iraq War) seem to have no party to go to.

With that said, I find the Liberal Thread to be one where there is no room for alternative viewpoints. What would happen if I dared to question your assertion that President Reagan made your life miserable because you had to work in college? What would happen if I questioned the wisdom of those who believe that Israel and President Bush are working together to make PE Obama's presidency more difficult by the recent attacks (I really could not believe that someone would actually post that)? It certainly seems that some of the more thoughtful posters have left the Liberal Thread and it has been reduced to a handful of "you are either with me or against me" cheerleaders. Perhaps I am wrong, but it appears that a few work behind the scenes to coordinate attacks.

Is the Lib Thread a "sludgepond?" I will not go that far, but you have to admit that the pool of posters is exceedingly small and the number of views very high. It tells me that very few care to participate, but many like to view the train wreck.
