Conservative thread: We're still smiling!

Well fellow DisCons, I am on my way home. Actually, I'm not sad, since in 3 weeks I'll be back for a good long time. :teeth: I can't wait to see all of you at WDW in the upcoming months- isn't one of our Debbies going next month? :goodvibes Anyway, I'll get all of you guys a trip report ready ASAP.

MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEME :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

You're already on your way back?!?!? Is the brother with you? or did you dump his tortured body somewhere? it's okay - you can tell us :)

looks like it's gonna be debbie season at the world! :cool1:

    and Debbie #4 will be working there, too! Debs #3 and 5 - how 'bout if we work out a Disney/Deb promotion, just for us! Like the birthday thing going on in '09?

And, Deb #1 - just leave that new job behind a couple of days to join us....

I normally keep quiet about these thigns because talking to trolls is like feeding strays, they don't go away, but I am so sick of this. What do you "lurkers" really think will happen when you post on our thread? That we'll all see the error of our beliefs and turn into Obama drones, like the rest of you? Really? I doubt that, so there is only one reason you'd come here; to start trouble.

This is not a debate thread. This is a place for conservatives to come and talk to other conservatives. You aren't conservative. You have nothing to add to this conversation. Are you so attention starved that you can't stop yourselves from coming over here and starting trouble? If you want to debate, start a debate thread. If you want to drool over Obama, you have your very own thread where you can do that. I can't speak for everyone here, but I have never even looked at that thread. I have no reason to. I'm not liberal so I don't post there. I don't even read it. I wish you'd all treat our thread the same way I treat yours. With respect. But I won't hold my breath.

Now, please, can we conservatives go back to our conversation without the liberal commentary?

:thumbsup2

Oh good! I'll be there through Feb. 10 :goodvibes

B-b-b-but you two CAN'T have any fun without me, can you?!?!?!? ;)

I'm making a resolution to gain 5 pounds this year and clean the house less. Those are resolutions I know I can keep. ;) :rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao: I gave up dusting one year for Lent....and last year I resolved not to make any resolutions so I didn't [thereby breaking my resolution - just like every year!]

I've said it before. Scratch a lefty, and you'll find an incredibly unhappy, bitter person just below the surface. And like all unhappy people, they want to take as many others as possible along for the ride. It's killing them that many Conservatives are looking at the triumvirate of Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi with a certain glee. Imagine how bad the three of them will govern, and then multiply it by 10 — and they'll have no one to blame but themselves. I think this is finally getting through to a few of the liberals, and they're just plain scared. As someone else said, Obama is the first president to have been interviewed by the FBI for corruption before being inaugurated. It can only do downhill from there.

And have you ever seen the likes of Patrick Fitzgerald and the MSM bend over backwards to proclaim his innocence??!!??!

After the way my mother was treated by this organization several years ago I lost much respect for them, and I lost a little more today with this:
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser...pulled_because_of_his_mormon_faith_104361.asp

Long story short, my mother finally got up the courage to leave my father after a 25 year marriage that was both physically and emotionally/verbally abusive. He always worked and she was basically a SAHM through the majority of the marriage, so she was financially dependent upon him for everything. When they divorced she was awarded that he pay for an attorney for her, but that never happened and she went through the divorce without one. Aside from getting full custody of my younger brothers (which he didn't want) she got nothing but her clothes and personal belongings. He got the house, cars, everything. My older brother moved her to Colorado near him, prepaid a year of rent in an apartment for her, and helped her get on her feet. She applied for a job at FOTF, and was offered the job, until they discovered she had been divorced, and rescinded the job offer.

Now they pull Glenn's interview/article about his book off their website just because he is a Mormon...never mind the fact that the interview never even brings up his religion, nor does the book, but instead the things of faith he speaks of are mainstream Christian values, fully in alignment with pretty much any Christian's beliefs.

Sad that they are being so closed-minded to try and turn people away from a story of faith and hope and belief in God at this time of year, and at a time when people around the country could really use it.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother's experiences with FOTF - I've always respected that organization. From what I hear [through others who have worked there recently], this stipulation about divorce has been relaxed.

About the GB article, apparently the link was taken down because of the confusion in that FOTF did not say he was a Mormon. It is a shame, too - whatever our theological differences, we do need to band together on those issues we do agree on. For instance, it was the Catholic church that stood almost singly against abortion in the 70s with the Protestant/Evangelicals slowly joining them later. Now I do see, at least in our city, a greater unity between Catholics and Protestants in this issue but who knows what could have been accomplished early on if we had pushed our theology aside to fight for unborn babies.

To the credit of FOTF, James Dobson has been very public to support the Mormon church for their Prop 8 stand and has encouraged his listeners to do the same.

Well, so far we've been able to avoid political talk...except this afternoon. My brother and I got into a 'discussion' about gun control. We were talking about the Virginia Tech shootings. My brother got mad, and went into another room, and locked the door. About 1/2 hour later, I got a message in my email with lots of links to articles to about gun control. :sad2:

Goodness, he must be really sensitive about this issue. And you must have had some good points - but I would have done the same thing that your brother did - I'm not a good debater so I would have had to leave the room, collect my thoughts, and do some internet searching to get my point across. Your brother and I would never make to actually speaking to one another - we'd just be volleying fiery emails across the room.

It is weird about the gun control issue - it really has little to do with guns and more to do with our worldview. I can't speak for all of us on this board - but I believe that evil exists and that people are capable of great evil and that we as a nation and in our families should have the right to protect our countrymen and families.

And, although I cannot speak for all liberals, most seem to have the worldview that leans toward the belief that evil doesn't exist and that all people are really good in their hearts, just misguided - hence, we don't have to protect ourselves but lead those poor misguided ones away from that vexing tendency to mow others down with semi-automatic weapons.

Is there something in the libs' bottled sparkling mineral water today or what???:confused3

Soarin' - don't worry about them; just get cracking on that Trip Report! :goodvibes

Yep, get crackin! -- and, Dolce, if you're lurking, I expect the same from you, young lady!

(psst....it is so weird, but in your avatar, he does look like gidget's dad! i'm whispering so nobody can hear me...AND i'm not old enough to have seen gidget except in reruns [i'm stickin' to that].)

*whispering too* like you, I am way too young to remember exactly who Don Porter was...

*in a normal voice* but I'm not sure he looks like Glenn Beck..the second picture, maybe...

Did you point out to him that in this case if the laws had been followed gun control would have worked?

My philosophy about gun control has always been that if you take away this constitutional right, then you should outlaw abortion and smoking as well.

I'm going to try and make this pithy. The main argument is that the second amendment is outdated and leads to people dying. Abortion has no specific law protecting it while it is "constitutional," but every abortion ends in a death. In other words, if you are championing for gun control, but want to keep abortion, then it's borderline hypocrisy. There is a similar (but much weaker) argument for the reverse.

Anyway, back to fun talk. Anyone have fun New Year's plans?

Yeah, I see no resemblance, but that's just my opinion. I guess it's all in the facial expression. Holy cow, is that Sally Field? I must be too young.

Where's Dolce and Nanner? How about Bella?

OK, folks, the haters are out in full force. Ignore them. Do not get pulled into their sad, angry little world. Ignore them and they will go away. Sooner or later, their moms are going to call them up from the basement because Wheel of Fortune is on or the macaroni and cheese is ready or something. :rotfl:
LOL! I'm so glad I wasn't drinking anything.

Isn't it amazing how they claim to know our feelings on a minute by minute basis? I'm not crying in my cheerios, I'm not in denial, I'm not delusional. I do wish they'd stop calling us names. Not because it bothers me as much as it brings down the manners IQ of the DIS when they continue to do such a thing.
Yup.

I just balanced Quicken. It feels good. Took me an hour because I had three months' work of work to do, but it's done.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I've also noticed, they can say anything they darn well please, but we have to keep our mouths shut because we might offend them in some way....:sad2:  This is the CONSERVATIVE thread. Yet they continually keep coming over here to try and start trouble.

No, he's still alive. I wanted to torture him a few times, but I didn't.:lmao: Yeah, we're home. Oh well.... three weeks and I'll be BAAACK!!!!!!!

I'll get on it ASAP! I wanted to get to meet up with Dolce but alas, it would have been a royal nightmare to do so..... blame the family.:headache: That's the last time I go to WDW with my parents and siblings!!

:sad2: What a shame. I have numerous good friends who are Mormon and they are strong Christians. To be honest, I've been looking into visiting the Mormon churches in our area myself. I was raised Baptist but haven't always been treated well at any of those churches I've attended over the years.... Baptists in our area are very close-minded and arrogant. Last year a student at school lost everything in a house fire, and the local Baptist church refused to help her and her family because- you'll love this- they weren't members of that church, so therefore, the church had no reason to help them. I know enough about how Mormons believe to know that most of them truly are Christians with a heart for the Lord. Shame they pull that article about that book- The Christmas Sweater certainly made me stop and examine my life, my faith, and my heart after reading it and seeing Glenn perform it.

I think there are people who just have problems with the Morman theology. I do as well, but I believe that many Mormans are saved, will go to heaven, and serve God far better than many Christians do. I believe the same thing about Catholicism.

Also, that Baptist church? Ugh. I have a Baptist church right near me who has every ministry you could imagine (a pregnancy clinic, an outreach for the impoverished and homeless, a rich missions program, etc). I wouldn't abandon the denomination because of some bad apples. There are good churches out there, but you might have to look (unless that kind is all there is in your area, then go ahead and bolt). Unfortunately, the horrible churches are often the ones who have the biggest mouths, so they are much easier to find.

They never gave President Bush a chance. Do not believe the Left. Everything is political to them. Everything (including the weather!) They can no more support a Conservative than they can the rights of an unborn child.......we are simply in their way.......

Setting aside 9/11 (and President Bush's actions after it), the best thing I can say for President Bush is he made sure those morons (and yes they really are morons) Al Gore and John Kerry never became President. For that alone, President Bush has earned my respect in perputuity.

I plan on giving President-elect Obama a chance.....a chance to implicate himself in the Blagejovich affair for starters.......I expect more opportunites will present themselves......

Just out of curiosity, is Obama the first President-elect to be "interviewed" by the FBI for two hours as part of a criminal investigation?

If so, this would be another "First" for the only "clean" politician to come out of the state of Illinois since Abraham Lincoln......

Either way, I am enjoying watching them squirm.......
:thumbsup2

Their posts just prove that it really doesn't matter who wins. They have a chronic condition called Bitteritis.

Well around here everyone is very close-knit and not too willing to accept outsiders- we have visited every Baptist church in our area and :headache: . Forget it!! My old church was wonderful..... but we moved and in the years since, it sort of has fallen apart, according to a friend of mine.

I'm working on a trip report but am pretty tired so I might be tomorrow getting it ready.... sorry guys!!;)

Yeah, a lot of places are pretty much made of those kind of churches. I think that comes from a fundamentalist mindset. It's sad, but that's the case. It's also sad that churches can totally change at the drop of a hat. My aunt works at a church where the new pastor is acting like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. He also has the attitude of "out with the old, in with the new," which is why my aunt's 20-year-old job is in danger. Church members can act so much like the ancient Israelites it's not even funny. I'm just glad that the Christians of my generation are as eager for change as I am (not Obama's kind of change, just to clear that up ;)).

We're in Mississippi.... so yes fundamentalism is a bit of a problem around here. I used to go to a fundamentalist school.... wow, what a nightmare.:scared1:

Don't worry dear, you're on the conservative thread- we know you don't mean Obama's change.:thumbsup2 Though yeah, clearing that up for the oodles of lurkers who think they can sway us to the other side might be wise.... we don't want them to get excited and think that Obamaism has a new member.:rotfl2:

Holy cow, I would die. Sorry, lurkers. I'm allergic to Kool-aid.

The problem is, every time I mention change nowadays, Obama's name comes up. It makes using cash at the grocery store a drag. I'll have to start using some creative synonyms. How does alteration sound? Or maybe about-face or mutation?

:rotfl2: :thumbsup2 Sounds good to me!!!

Heads-up to Humphrey Bear, I stole every single picture in your signature.:lmao: You knew I was going to anyways, I'm sure.... they're now safely saved on my laptop. So as soon as you post again, give me a :thumbsup2 as to whether or not I can use them in my signature (after my countdown runs out I'm redoing it again).

And yeah, I am getting a little irritated about this broken door. There are SO many other threads to start riots on. Why pick this one?

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I've also noticed, they can say anything they darn well please, but we have to keep our mouths shut because we might offend them in some way....:sad2:  This is the CONSERVATIVE thread. Yet they continually keep coming over here to try and start trouble.

You must remember that there are some people who have a keen interest in seeing this thread closed. Not all liberals are like this but some are. For whatever reason they don't like the collegiality we have, in some demented way perceiving it to be a threat. Many of those childish posts that insult signatures (and other such things) are meant to draw some of us into making comments that will earn points.
I'm not saying how anyone should or shouldn't respond, but just keep in mind that some posts are designed to bring out the worst in us.

Good point. We'll just have to make sure it brings out the best rather than the worst.

:thumbsup2 Leave it to you to speak the words of wisdom Zip. Sometimes the things they say just really.... I think you guys know what I'm trying to say.:headache: :headache: I'm guilty of lashing back in defense of myself or someone else- I just hate to see them get away with nasty comments. Though I need to learn to just consider the source and  , and thus proceed on with whatever else I am doing.

Good point. We'll just have to make sure it brings out the best rather than the worst.

We've been through this sort of thing on previous threads before. I don't know why it's starting up again now. I thought some of the intolerance of differing views would subside post-election. Oh well.... it's nothing new. :surfweb:

I haven't read on that "other" thread in a while, but I suspect that they are policing themselves on this matter. Many of the liberals over there are good eggs.
