oh...have any of you gone out to see Glenn Beck at a book signing? I'm thinking of heading out to the one in Irving tonight, but curious about the crowds....

We went up to see Mike Huckabee at the Villages, but missed Glen Beck. I heard from a lady at Church that it was REALLY crowded.

We were SO behind Mike Huckabee for President and we're still so sad that he didn't win. We told him to run in 2012!!!

haha there is a video on Glenn's website with him on a golf cart with a couple of his guys. They got lost in the Villages. Took them an hour to go 3 miles....with a map....it's quite funny. Looks like a beautiful place to live though. :)

The crowd is what I'm afraid of. I don't want to expose Jacob to that. :( But I've missed getting to see him for 3 years now. Last year his book signing here was cancelled because of a snowstorm he couldn't get here.

I REALLY REALLY want to meet him.

JB you're one talented lady. I love the blog. I love Americana, too. Great quilt. The Air Force baby stuff is amazing. I wish I had known you when my Air Force brats were babies. What a neat idea for a nursery. :goodvibes

It is really pretty, and we met some lovely people there, a lady told us that the Villages was "Retirement Heaven for Conservatives". We also went up the day Sarah Palin came but we couldn't get anywhere near her! There were so many people there that she looked like a little dot!! It was still really fun to be part of the rally!

I had to sell DH on her too! He's not hot on women working outside the home-especially when they have children!! After he heard her speak though he could tell that God had really called her to enter politics.

I SOOOOOO want to learn digital scrapbooking....I am a total photoshop failure. I can usually pick up a new software program easily but I just can't seem to get this one down.

Got any good tips or tutorials? I really really want to learn how to do this so I can put some of my pictures and stuff to use, and spiffy up my blogs.

I use Corel's Paint Shop Pro. I did take an online class for Photoshop, and it was literally the hardest class I've ever taken, as far as understand goes, even harder than my nursing courses, or even chemistry!

The best advice I can give is practice, practice, practice. Once it clicks, you've got it. I think Paint Shop Pro is easier than Photoshop, but that's just my preference.

Here's a link to one of my favorite sites for purchasing digital elements as well as the variety of tutorials available.

I also have a link to some of my digi books in my sig, if you want to take a peek.:)

i'd love to see some of your scrapbooks....don't see any links in your siggie though...sometimes they seem to get cut off (siggies, that is)

I'd say that is a tag-worthy statement :P

Here's a link to my craft blog which is not as "complete" as it should be, but there are only so many hours in a day....

I do other crafts besides quilting, that is just my favorite (and most expensive).

I'd love to see some of your pictures of stuff you've made. I always get inspired by other's work....maybe you'll give me some ideas for finishing up a couple of my projects. Here is the one I'm most stumped on, and the one I'd like to finish the most. It is the Pledge of Allegiance, and I would like to make it a wall hanging for my dining room, which, when I get the chance to actually decorate it, will be in old Americana style:

Jen that's beautiful!! Wow!!:goodvibes

And I saw the words "Glenn Beck" and "book signing" posted. OMG!! He needs to come to my area!:dance3: Though I just checked the list and duh, nowhere near me unless you count Florida.

Well Boo Hoo was on the TV again! Still talking about letting the tax cut expire or just pulling it back ASAP.

I have Rush on - he is playing all the other news people talking about how crazy Blgo is. I guess the left word of the day will be "delusional". Always entertaining but also sad.

I just put on the mute button when he comes on. I am still so saddened to see that the majority of the country voted for this man who wants to do such sinful things. I don't know how a Christian could EVER support some of the things he supports.

Good moring everyone. Does anybody have a good sugar cookie recipe? My nieces need one for school and since I always make them sugar cookies they came to me. I don't have the heart to tell them I use the Betty Crocker mix!

Sidenote: Do any of you amost barf when you read threads about Disney planning and see some of the hateful posters you have come to know and love here on the Community Board on those threads? I am not just talking about the political threads, here on this board, you see some crazy's all over the threads. I was over on resorts and saw one of them and was halfway surprised to see them over there. Of course it is a Disney board after all! Might add, they gave the wrong information out! Kinda reminded me when I saw the witchy school crossing guard at church one day, I was like, wow, when you aren't screaming at little kids you actually go to church!

My mom does but sadly I don't know her recipe. So I'm sorry....

Good morning! I hope you all don't mind my just popping in like this. I have been reading here for a long time, we live in Central Florida and we just LOVE the Magic Kingdom!!! I get a lot of great info, but have never posted before. I had to wait until my DH could take a look at the site first before I joined. He's really not all that into the internet, and has issues about the stuff that's out there-he thinks it's all porn! :lmao: Anyway, he was kind of ok about this site because it's mostly Disney talk.

We both really liked this thread-hope ya don't mind that I've already stolen some of your great recipes?? He was also really glad to see so many good Christians here. We're both Baptists-I was born again at 14, he was a "late bloomer" at 17!!

Sadly, God has not seen fit to bless us with children. However, we've accepted that as His will and we volunteer our time with Sunday School.

Sorry for such a long post, but I do want to thank you for all your encouraging and helpful posts! There's so much to worry about these days, it's nice to find a place with prayerful folks!

Welcome! Nice to have you here.

I like the one in the Better Homes and Gardens Baking book. It's really easy!

1 cup butter
1.5 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar (for holidays I use red and green!)

in a large mixing bowl beat the butter on high speed for 30 secs. Add the 1.5 cups sugar and beat until combined. Beat in eggs, cream of tartar, baking soda, vanilla and salt until combined. beat as much of the flour in as you can with the mixer (if you have a kitchen aid you can just mix it all in, the motor is tough enough!) Cover and chill for 2 to 3 hrs

Shape dough into 1 inch balls and roll in the 1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar, place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

Bake in 375 degree oven for 7-8 minutes or until lightly browned, then transfer to a wire rack and let cool

Oh my gosh, your husband is the sweetest thing ever. Was the tree empty?

I wear glasses - I hate them. All of the frames are small, but that's the style now. Good luck in finding what you need - hope your headaches go away.

I haven't made it back to the Y yet. I'll go today after my eye appointment, since it is just around the corner from there. My hubby and I were talking this morning and we decided that if the Y's tree is full already I will call my ex-MIL and ask if her church has a giving tree. They have a "basket brigade" for Thanksgiving, and it went really badly this year. People just weren't donating. I didn't find out until it was too late to help. :( I don't know if they even do a Christmas giving tree. If not either of those, then we'll do Toys for Tots. My husband is a Marine (inactive) after all!

Good morning! I hope you all don't mind my just popping in like this.

Hi, and welcome!

Thank you so much! That is my favorite cookbook, but I loaned it to a friend so this is perfect!

And welcome to the disboards, so good to have you here!

That's a good recipe. I made them the other night but instead of sugar I did cinnamon and sugar and made snickerdoodles.

That's why I love that recipe-it's so easy to do and can be used so many different ways. I made them with Orange sugar for the Church Halloween party.

Glenn Beck never came near WA as far as I could see. :sad1:

Nobody comes here. Why would they? We're in looney liberal land! Led by Governor Dora the Explorer, she's still seeking something, we're not sure what.

Although, my friend goes to Antioch Bible Church in Kirkland and it's run by Pastor Ken Hutcherson and he is really good friends with my hero, Rush! So every time I go there I keep bugging him to get Rush up here and he's really trying. So we'll see. I'll keep y'all updated on that.

I don't know what it means, but I keep having dreams that I'm an intern for Rush. Sigh. Maybe it's just wishful thinking...

I know. *sigh* We're on the Left coast. No one comes out here.
Perhaps Dora can find what she's looking for by singing, "I'm the map I'm the map I'm the map I'm the map!"

Ooh, if he can bring up Rush I'll gladly meet him! :yay: :thumbsup2
