Ya, the former. I've just been to Asheville and Charlotte in NC, I'm sorry!!:cutie: I don't even know where the Old Dominion is!!:upsidedow

Ah, younguns. :rotfl:

The Old Dominion is another name for Virginia. Explanation:

The Old Dominion: This nickname for the state of Virginia originated in Colonial days. Dominion refers to complete ownership of a particular piece of land or territory.

Because he considered the Virginians "the best of his distant children," sometime around 1663, King Charles II of England elevated Virginia to the position of dominion along with England, Scotland, Ireland, and France.

The citizens of Virginia were pleased with this elevated status because they considered themselves the most faithful of the King's settlements in America. Since their settlement was the oldest of King Charles' settlements in America, they adopted the name "The Old Dominion." A variation of this name is "The Ancient Dominion."

Mother of Presidents: Sometimes Virginia is called the "Mother of Presidents" because so many of the early presidents of the United States were native Virginians.

Mother of Statesmen: Because of the number of statesmen produced by Virginia, this nickname has been used.

Mother of States: Virginia has been called the "Mother of States" because she was the first of the states to be settled and because of the number of states that were "born" of the Virginia territory. West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and, even a part of Minnesota were all a part of the original Virginia territory.

The Cavalier State: This nickname is derived from the Cavaliers (supporters of King Charles I during the English Civil War) who left England and came to Virginia during, and shortly after, the reign of King Charles I of England.

Down Where the South Begins: Radio broadcasters referred to Virginia as "Down Where the South Begins" because of its location. Virginia is the most southern of the Middle Atlantic States.

1525_200.jpg

Yes, it does! I can't wait to try it...hopefully tomorrow.

and I love that apple thing, too -- don't blame your son for playing with it.

Do you have one? If you do, what fun stuff have you made? I love kitchen gadgets!
AHHHHH thanks :thumbsup2 and good night to those hitting the sack...I am soon also. As soon as I get my DS off the xbox and out of my room...geesh already :upsidedow
Our new xBox should be arriving tomorrow...the kids are psyched...

Fake chocolate.

Hey all...

I'm here...just being lazy and not posting. ;) I'm trying to multi-task...like doing laundry and making dinner, etc.

**Whine alert...

I really don't like "No Child Left Behind."

Okay, whine over.**
I'm not a fan of all of it either, but I think it was needed in some form. There are just aspects of it that need to be changed. But then again, I'm from VA and we've had a testing program in place since I started HS, so the testing structure was already in place for us. I probably feel differently about it all thanks to that.

mmm lobster and cookies and almond bark!

Ward>> Great news about your FIIL!!

Teresa>> You have a very lovely family. I agree.. the eyes have it! *my almost 23 year old was born the 23rd, and was supposed to be a boy. We finally went with Natalie knowing it meant Christmas something* We came home Christmas morning!

Baron>>So if I visit, no hockey talk or saying, EH, right?

I tried to read when I got in from hockey, but ended up having to skim a lot. I wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for leaving the big three out of today's thread chat. I know it was a concerted effort, I know it was difficult, I humbly thank you. I know as a con it goes against most of what I believe in, but its also our way of life, so while I don't turn lib.. LOL.. I do start bleeding ford. I love you guys! THANK YOU!

Watching Charlie Wilson's War in the background. I love this movie!

Did I hear we got GA? WOO HOO!~

We did get GA! :yay:

As for the Big Three... fair warning in case you go back and re-read, it did come up earlier here. Just skip over a couple of posts (mine included). Just trying to warn you, Debbie.

Fake chocolate.

Fake chocolate? Why have fake chocolate when you can have the real stuff? My brain does not compute such things as fake sugar, diet soda, light salad dressing, and fake chocolate. :rotfl:

I saw it.. I even have a defending email, mostly with good backup for those not living and breathing in the industry... I decided to leave it alone for this thread! :) I still stand by my thank you because I know it would have normally gotten much more talk. For the record, I think there is more to be done, too. I just think they're treating the auto companies totally different from the money crunchers. (slaps self and puts duct tape on)

Oh, ITA. It's two different sets of standards, and I find that very wrong. And now I shall shut my trap. :rotfl:

Fake chocolate is as nasty as fake crab. Blegh.

Now, I gotta defend my almond bark! As someone who wouldn't attempt dipping things into real chocolate because real chocolate isn't as easy to dip things into, almond bark is a nice substitute. Easy to use and not that far off the mark of the chocolate flavor...

From its official definition, it does sound rather  though:

artificial chocolate made with vegetable fats instead of cocoa butter and with coloring and flavors added

but maybe I like vegetable fats and even a fake crab or two

*looking for a fat vegetable right now*

Do you have one? If you do, what fun stuff have you made? I love kitchen gadgets!

No, I don't have one but some friends do -- I've only used it for apple pies, and I would make those all the time if I had one of those things. It's great and the apples are nice and small, too.

I don't know of any other applications, though -- might be fun to experiment, everything apple.

And I love kitchen gadgets, too -- I found out that there's a kitchen section in the World of Disney store -- woo hoo!

I love kitchen gadgets also...they are fun. I just ordered a much needed Food processor....I keep the xbox in my bedroom so I can keep an eye on them and what they say. Also no worries about them sneaking on in the middle of the night:lmao: same with the computers...they are both in my room. The PS3 is downstairs but we use that more as our Blu-ray player. I bought a 46" LCD foe my bedroom Sat and the boys love playing xbox on it.

We have the 58" plasma downstairs but they dont play much like I said on the PS3. They are going to be getting (among other things) either 32" or 37" TV for Christmas. Time to get the 19" reg. TV's gone :thumbsup2

My kids are sooooooo Da*^ spoiled I'll tell ya :rotfl2:

We did get GA! :yay:

And we're getting that much closer to getting MN! Someone found 117 votes from somewhere, no telling, but they all won't go to Franken. Coleman has added votes so he's got a better margin than he did before the recount started.

On that happy note, I'll say good-night too.

Hey everyone! Look at all of that yummy food! Oh, and speaking of peppermint...I actually had a White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha (w/peppermint whipped cream and chocoate curls) from Starbucks this morning. It was so good. I must be on a peppermint kick because I bought a peppermint break apart from Disneyland last Sunday. YUM.

Zip that picture is hilarious! :rotfl2:

Hey Got Disney! I was wondering where you were. I'm glad to have you back with us.

Have fun at the Studios tomorrow. That's the park that I used to work at and it's my favorite (even though it gets a lot of flack)
That was my favorite park when we went to WDW, too!

Okay, quiz time --

which well-known commentator made this statement, in response to H's dismissal of the reporter who reminded him that he had been quite critical of HC's lack of foreign policy experience --

was it:

Rush Limbaugh?

Sean Hannity?

Glenn Beck?

Michelle Malkin?

Campbell Brown?

cheers for the person who said Campbell Brown!

Woo hoo! -- Yes, That Campbell Brown....

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthe...own-lectures-obama-brushing-media-s-questions
I am shocked. I never would have guessed. I hope it starts to catch on with the rest of the media. Maybe they all will start doing their job.

I have to go to sleep...I am just plum tired out......I am so glad that i dont have to work....well I work but not at a J O B.....I volunteer and clean my house.....and care for my family....and so on.

But what is really nice is if I want to go back to sleep after the kids go to school I can. Or do what ever I want to do....or not want to do. DH works out of the house so that is an extra :thumbsup2 for me...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh life is good! but I did pay my dues of 22 years nursing mind you. And I do put in many hrs volunteering at the school and being in charge of all the schools volunteers and activities. Also horse rescue during fires and meals on wheels. Also delivering and moving around toys for tots from place to place......

The best thing is that it is volunteering and it is something I want to do and not have to do.AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH again life is good. :woohoo:

I'll stick up for ya'. Almond bark is used a lot for candies.

Fake crab is awesome when making dip. I make one with worcheshire sauce, cream cheese, parsley, tabasco, minced garlic, fake crab meat, mayo...I think that's it. Throw it in a bowl and nuke it. Don't ask for the recipe. I lost it a long time ago. I just kind of throw things in a bowl until it's right.

That sounds good! I make a really good cold pasta/crab salad with halved green grapes and your basic mayo/ranch/dill dressing. Reading the worsteshire in your recipe makes me think it might be a splash of what my recipe needs!

In the summer I'll make a HUGE bowl full and it will be gone by the end of the day.

Still waiting to hear about the fat vegetable!

And I love kitchen gadgets, too -- I found out that there's a kitchen section in the World of Disney store -- woo hoo!

Some of my favorite Disney souvenirs are kitchen stuff...'cause I'll use it so much.

I know exactly what you mean...:goodvibes :goodvibes

Fake crab has a place in my house...and that place is in the trash. :rotfl:

I'm not a big fake crab fan. Almond bark doesn't sound too bad, though. And I'll take some fat vegetables. ;)
